interestingly specific. I am going to say Portal is the Greatest game I have ever played. Honorable mentions go to Perfect Dark, Settlers of Catan, BANG!, and Starfox 64.

Mystical Ninja Goemon for the N64

because it doesn't need to follow the "uber-masculine space hero" thing that modern games have been doing...

the main characters are thus:
a super sayin, a fat ninja with a camera, a secret agent ninja that has lime-green hair as long as she is tall... and a midget robot with spikey yo-yo hair...

main enemies are a man and a woman named dancin' and lilly respectfully...

and your giant robot is filming movies in france and in america although its from japan

This is an entirely subjective thread right?

The best game I've played would have to be Mass Effect 1. Of course that game is also my favorite, so make of that what you will.

I would have to say, Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando.

It introduced me into the series when my brother got it, which was epic.

Hm... I'd have to say... Bioshock. Good plot, atmosphere, gameplay, and length. Portal misses out only due to its length.

If I had to list a top-5 of all time (I will not be that guy who just blabs about Portal in every best games thread):
1. Portal. Portal was a mechanically perfect game with some of the funniest humor I have ever heard from the video game industry.
2. LoZ: Occarina of Time. [/fanboy]...shut up. Seriously though this is pretty much a shining example of everything that is good about the Action and Adventure genre.
3. KotOR. I love a good story in my games, and I love Star Wars. This was a perfect pairing of both.
4. The Mechwarrior seiries. Ok, so I get a giant robot suit that I get to deck out in my choice of weapons and armor then go blow up a bunch of other people in giant robot suits? Awesome.
5. The Half Life seiries. As I said I love a good story and its rare to see such a great story attached to a great shooter in addition to all the interesting puzzles that break up the shooting.

TimeSplitters 2 was better then GoldenEye 64, it gained from being from a generation later.

GoldenEye is SO good and without it TimeSplitters would never been made, but let go of the nostaliga... Let it go...

I can't really decide, actually. It's hard to choose from all the good games I've played.

Syphon Filter. It's the only game I've ever played to match my criteria for the "perfect" game, let alone do it twice. First and foremost, intuitive, fluid gameplay. It played smoothly, but was still intense enough to get your heart pumping. Secondly, good story, in-depth characters, character development, etc. To story was amazing, the characters were relatable, and well developed, and they games left very few plot-holes. Not even plot-holes, just things they should have gone into with greater detail (Lian's capture in Afghanistan and transfer to Aljir Prison). Third, kickass original soundtrack that fits. Syphon Filter has some of the best original music I've ever heard, especially in an action game. The music fits perfectly, and really sets the tone for some of the levels. (The cathedral in SF1 used to scare the shit out of me when I was little just from the music). Lastly, graphics. For me, they mean almost nothing. If the game kicks ass, who gives a shit about the graphics? Nonetheless, the graphics weren't bad, however they weren't great, but they didn't need to be so who cares?

I would usually say Psychonauts, but I have recently played Jet set radio future again after not playing it for so long, and I must say its the most fun I have had in a game in a fairly long time, so at the moment its Jet set radio future :D

Say what?
I played both and preferred goldeneye, controls are much simpler and even the parts where you can shoot guards in the rear and they will jump and grab their hind quarters and look around.
Timesplitters has nothing on Goldeneye. FACT.
If it wasn't so good why is there HL2 mod of it?

Favourite game ever: Ace Combat 4: Distant Thunder (PS2 - 2004)

Modern Warfare 2.
yeah, i said it...

no, but seriously, the best game is probably something like fallout 3, or just cause 2 (demo), but, being the nostalgia-gripped nerd that i am, i'll go with Ratchet and Clank 2.
You can't make a Demo be the best game of all time. It's not a full game.
