Have to say Ocarina of Time, that game really did do most things right and it wasn't too hard or too easy. In fact it did do a lot of things that hadn't been done before so it did more than it was expected to do, you don't get that very often.

It great in the fact that it's hard, but not too hard...Well,sometimes it is too hard.

A lot of people have been dumping their favorite games of all time in, so i will also:

Fallout 3, ME2, Ninja Gaiden, Bioshock, Tales of Vesperia, LoZ OoT, L4D, Advanced Wars, RA2.

And honors to N64 Golden Eye. Also first FPS i ever played. And i kept beating all the adults at 9 years old. One of Dad's mates got seriously annoyed with me.

Definitely Half Life 2. As my loyal fans will know I've often spouted my love for half life 2 on these forums though I've never really gone into great detail so I guess now I really should seize this moment (Grab some popcorn and some soothing hand creams for all the times you facepalm for various funny reasons).

the year was 2005 and hand in hand I would run through fields of daisies in a suede vest with the big black monolith that was the xbox. Having been sheltered from PC gaming in the '90s and at the time I hadn't a clue why everybody was ranting and raving about the PC port of a sequel too a game I had never heard of called half life 2. As was the case with fallout 3 years later having had no experience with the sequels predecessors I had no idea what to expect of the game and never paid much attention to it, though in both cases I would be proven VERY wrong later down the line.

The latest issue of Xbox magazine pops up in newsagents proclaiming the demo it contained on the issues disc of the supposedly god-like game that seemed to be everywhere so I decided to give it a shot. With nery a hint of backstory or explanation I was dropped into the headcrab zombie infested town of Ravenholm with what I thought of at the time to be a bad rip-off of the gravity gun from Turok evolution, at the time I didn't like what I had experienced at all and through this I completely avoided the wave of praise the game received and would scowl from then on at any mention of the game due to that damn demo.

Fast forward to 2007 and again it seems that the strange company (To me back then) that put out the awful half life 2 (To me back then) is bringing out something big called the orange box, I find out that half life 2's on it so I figure "hey it must be a rehash of their older games" so once again I skip it. In the months that followed I started spending more and more time on the website newgrounds which in turn eased me into pc gaming as opposed to my all console gaming diet and it was there that I garnished a liking for the flash game p0rtal. In turn through the forever prevalent memes and from what I had heard I find out that the game wasn't original and was in fact a flash remake of the hugely successful game in the orange box that was the cause of all the strange memes (TO ME BACK THEN!).

So I figure that I may as well pick up a copy of this orange box for the 360 so I could play p0rtal and see what all the fuss was about. Not wanting to spend 100 bucks (On a pre-owned game AFTER the dust had settled might I add EB games) to play one ingenious puzzler I decided to give the old half-life 2 chestnut a whirl...I was stupified at how silly I had been. In the times that followed I really got into tf2 as well, started embracing the jokes tat I now actually understood and became an ENORMOUS Valve fan with many of their games on my shelf and desktop and with hopes of someday working for them (Hey, you gotta shoot for the moon to be among the stars).

Now with that behind me let's get onto why I love the game. The thing I like best about it is the enormous level of variety even in situations that could otherwise be deemed mediocre, one minute you're going through sewers while solving clever physics challenges, another minute you're going through a heacrab zombie infested town filled with saw-blades and you have a gravity gun, another minute you're heading through a city being ravaged by civil war while commanding a rag-tag squad of resistance fighters.

Having had many travels through Europe I thought the setting of a dystopian European city and surrounding country side intertwined with a fungus like infestation of combine architectural clutter that ultimately makes the once beautiful city seem bleak and hopeless was very clever. The characters were cleverly throught out, beatifully animated and voiced exceptionally and didn't feel like annoying dogs that have been stapled to your backside. The game demanded thoughts of the player, whether it be determining what characteristics the mute Mr Freeman had (On one of my playthroughs I made a running commentary as a cocky Rusky courier, I've actually adopted this persona into many games I play and it helps ease any horror, tension or monotony the game may have), how to solve a particular puzzle or trying to make sense of a particular situation after having been given the evidence (It was definitely a resistance house, combine must have gotten word and shelled the place. There's bound to be some supplies and probably in the basement too so as to avoid suspicion but if I go down there I'm sure I'll come into contact with the presumably venomous homeowner.).

Though overall the game was focused on delivering FUN to a SINGLE PLAYER, there wasn't a mediocre campaign and a mediocre multiplayer (Okay they released that slapped together hl2 deathmatch AFTER the game was released but who cares) like most games.

Sorry to have created this gargantuan wall of text but I just really wanted to get some things off my chest concerning this MASTERPIECE of a game, in fact I'm so sorry that I'll treat you to some fine music to finish off this post.

By definition of perfect in absolutely every mechanical regard? Portal. It was short, sweet, and satisfying.

But there are plenty of games that were more satisfying to me. KOTOR, certain moments of Jade Empire, Lost Odyssey, SOTC, etc.

Speaking of Jade Empire, I feel like getting the greatest video game decision ever out of the way. Although the philosophical meaning behind the morality system was mostly scratched in lieu of classic good/evil morality, there was one scenario that actually coincided quite beautifully and left me thinking enough to save and quit right afterwords. You stumble upon a young girl and her mother being broken by slavers in a cave; you defeat the slave breaker, then have a showdown between the family and the nobleman who bought the slaves from bandits. The Open Palm path would be to break the family out of slave service yourself (although there is no combat involved), the neutral (rather evil) solution would be to forsake the family and let the noblemen have them as slaves, but the most interesting solution would be to convince the young daughter to personally fight the nobleman and prove her strength, essentially guiding her along the path of the Closed Fist. The nobleman gets killed, the mother is in shock, and the daughter feels empty, but willing to go much farther than she has ever gone before... and as they walk away, it appears that her mother will be her next victim.

It's moments like these that let me appreciate gaming as an artistic medium, and are the difference between a great and a perfect game.

This is a very tough question you're asking:a question that need some thinking over. There have been so many games I've played throughout the years, starting at the Commadore 64, and ending up on the PC/PS3. There are a lot of things to think of : how fun it is? Entertaining values? Replayability? Graphics and "immersion"? I have found out that when I start to curse, shout and scream at the screen/display and having difficulties with a game; the game I am playing is good.

Hmm.. high up on the list would be "Shadow Of The Colossus"(PS2).
This game has a great feel about it. You are playing as a boy, and you have to fight 16(?) giant colossi through the game. These hulking giants are the only enemies you have in the game, so you spend your time riding around searching for the creatures, exploring the environment and gazing upon the fantastic scenery. A great game, and the fights against the titans are epic! TRULY epic! I really hope they do a new version of it for the PS3 with retouch graphics.

Another game ,that deserve a place among the giants, is "Resident Evil"(Pc/Psx).
This game is just great. A very well made survival horror game. Ammo is scarce, and the sudden crashing-of-window or breaking-of-door will start you, and send your heart pounding. The music and sound fx's are great and the cut-scenes are first class. Fantastic game.

These are games I can play again and again, and will never stop playing 'em. I will be back with more games later. I just need some time to ponder upon this great question!

While I'm sure people will disagree with me I still find that for me personally Halo: Combat Evolved was the game that I put at the top of the chart, I was young when I first played it and it blew my mind. The music, the atmosphere, the gunplay, the story and just the general feel of it makes it perhaps one of the most cherished games in my collection.
The close second would be Bioshock and third would be Mass Effect.
