Moon Project (sequel to earth 2150, prequel to lost souls) kicked an inordinately large ammount of ass... full unit customization terrain deformation, underground tunnel networks, earthquake generators as weapons( great for deploying under yer enemies base in said tunnel network...)
mechs tanks hover vehicles choppers jets you name it that game has it... Lasers that actually work like one should (heating the target vehicle up till the fuel tank in it goes off like a can of fireworks in a bonfire) and aren't effective against concrete structures... I mean lasers don't exactly do that much to concrete being a nonconductive material...

and i mean you can fight on earth in multiple climates yes it has weather too snow covers buildings gradually as it falls, and since one of the superweapons is a weather control tower certain seasons have different weather...

said weather control station if placed on the moon calls down meteor showers on bases and such causing much fun(havoc, chaos).

one race gets solar power generators which involve solar pannels you place near(connected to) big batteries which drain slowly at night since the solar panels generate nothing in the dark...

some of the naval battles i've got goin in that game have been pretty intense too...

but yeah I would suggest anyone reading this to check it out, see if you can get a copy somehow. I suggest it to all people i know none have been dissapointed by it...

also Master Of Orion 2... 3 is fulla too damn many spreadsheets to be really fun...
but yeah galactic empireness at it's finest in that game customizeable races customizeable ships, easy to use interface... can't go wrong, fun fun game.

and even though some may get mad at me for it I also gotta put in Homeworld... the first one is a hella classic game.
gotta be one of my all time to 10 games of all time ever, seriously.

Beyond good and evil

Same guys that made psyconauts, same good gamescore, same awful sales.

When the whispers about a sequel began earlier this year i almost wet my pants, but so far
it´s vaporware.

I definitely agree! I am also immensely depressed that Monster Hunter 3 is only gonna be on the Wii:(

And god damnit! You beat me to it.
That was such a great all around game that one of my friends loaned me a long while back. Not to mention that friggin minigame after you beat the game (the one that you had to independently control those two things through a moving maze thing with both analog sticks) was fucking intense.

Guess I have to come up with something original then:

Hot Shots Golf: Out Of Bounds (well the whole series actually)
Not all that obscure, but way to good of a game to have such a small fanbase. I have been playing and loving the series since the demo of the very first one came on a U.S. Playstation Magazine demo disc.

I must admit, I was thinking that this topic would pose a difficulty, what with this being the internet and the site full of nerds, but I've been genuinely surprised by some very esoteric and obscure titles people have put forward.

The only titles I might put forward with anywhere close to the same level of obscurity as some inspired choices would be these: Shattered Union and Dai Senryaku, both for the original Xbox. I should state that while they are easy contenders for the "that no one has heard of" portion of the task, the "Best Games" title is far more subjective. Both titles are rather obtuse, archaic hex-based strategy games, quite a bit in the style of old wargames (think Squad Commander status). But I did enjoy them a good bit when I first played them some years ago, so I submit them for your perusal.

The Game Center CX series (known as Retro Game Challenge in the states)

Having to import those buggers truly makes it staifying when the game is golden.

Vib Ribbon, Kurushi, Dungeons for the acorn electron

let's go left field - Rings of Power for the megadrive. Old school Naughty Dog - such a good soundtrack.

This really obscure FPS series, with some kind of Masterful Chef in it. I believe it's called Hello, but I might be mistaken.

Also Global Defence Force, at least where I come from anyway.
