Guns are a beautiful, beautiful thing. A lot of people would disagree with you on that "they don't do the world an ounce of good".
They are efficient and makes killing, as well as defence easier. Do you prefer people to hit each other with sticks until someone dies? Humans are going to kill one another, no matter what.
