For me it has to be Lost Odyssey. I loved the story, loved most of the characters (the kids got on my nerves at times but they were nowhere near as bad as Hope or Snow) and I loved the music.

Then again it had Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu doing the story and music respectivly so they would have had to work hard to fuck it up.

Last gen? Lost Odyssey? Did I time travel to when the next Xbox and Playstation have already been released? I must know, the future of our planet depends on it!

OT: Taking the thread title literally, then I would probably go with Kingdom Hearts or Persona 4, but I didn't play all that many JRPGs on the PS2/Gamecube. Going with what the OP apparently actually means, I'll still go with Persona 4, partly because it was originally released in 2008 anyway and partly because Golden is on the Vita, which was just astounding.

don't you mean current gen?

ANYWAYS, hands down the only right answer would be Xenoblade Chronicles or Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn both for the Wii

My favorite rpg of the last gen was Final Fantasy XII.

If you mean this gen, then it's Dragon's Dogma or one of the Souls games. Nier was also excellent.

Last generation was Persona 4, as always. For this generation, it's a toss up between Xenoblade Chronicles or Dark Souls.

Last gen: Tales of Symphonia :D
Current/OP's Last gen: THEY'RE ALL SHIT. Just kidding, but I didn't really enjoy any of the ones I've played, so I can't be of help.

I enjoyed Lost Odyssey a lot, especially the "A Thousand Years of Dreams" aspect. My favorite current gen jrpg is Tales of Vesperia.

Wouldn't Xenoblade Chronicles technically count as last gen considering the Wii U is out? :p

But yeah, for me it's Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story.

It says current gen now so...

My favorite from this gen is Xenoblade Chronicles but admittedly, I'm still not very far into it and there have been few from this gen that I've played. Hell, since 2006 I've played more JRPGs from the last gen and earlier consoles. Other than Xenoblade, I've played a bit of Last Story, Star Ocean: Last Hope, Enchanted Arms and, Kingdom Hearts 3DS. I'm not sure where I would categorize Pokemon Black/White though since they're technically on last gen consoles but I did play both of those titles and played to the credits screen so I'd call that beat. I think I'm going to stick with Xenoblade anyway though at least until Pandora's Tower drops in the US.

I never even had to think it over after reading the topic because the answer immediately came to me. Xenoblade Chronicles

If you liked Tales of Symphonia, try the other Tales titles. Tales of Graces f and Tales of Vesperia are particularly good.

On that note, my favorite would have to be Tales of Graces f. It would be Tales of Vesperia, but Bamco's full of shit and won't bring the PS3 version to the states because they made the mistake of releasing it for the Suckbox and got poorer sales than they wanted.

Although they're PS2 games, I'm putting down Persona 3 FES and Persona 4. Not only are they the only JRPG's I actually ENDURED, they are also the only ones I really enjoyed!

Edit: Oh, and Demon's/Dark Souls.

I want to say Dark souls , but i don't consider that a Jrpg . Funnily enough , the RPG from japan with Western style is better than most WRPGs . And i hate Tolkien RPGS WRPGs with a passion .

This gen Jrpgs were kinda average . I really liked quite a few of them , but compared to last gen , meh . Lost oddesey was Awsome for story , Star ocean 4 was great for combat . So it's one of those two . You pick .

My favourite from this gen is Tales of Vesperia. Second favourite would probably be Final Fantasy XIII-2. There is still Ni Ko Nuni and Tales of Xillia to look forward too though so my favourite might change.

Actually, Scamco can't release the PS3 version of ToV here because Microsoft bought their exclusivity outside of Japan. And as someone who has played Tales of Vesperia on PS3, you have every right to be very angry about that. It's better in every way and has so much extra stuff it almost feels like a whole other game.

That's where my vote goes, because the characters and world were overall far better than Graces F. I liked them both, mind you. But hell, I went as far as to buy Yuri and Rita scale figures because of how much I enjoyed that game.

Honorable mentions goes to the Arland series of the Atelier games. I pipe on about the Atelier series here almost weekly yet I've never seen a single other poster acknowledge the existence of the series which truly saddens me.

I very much dislike Microdicks.
They let a large portion of their licenses lapse and be released on other consoles. They even let Mass Effect come to the PS3. Why can't they just stop being complete knob gobblers for once and let us have the good games? >:{

[sub]I still like Mass Effect, though. Playing it right now, in fact.[/sub]

But yes, I am very upset about their ridiculousness. I just can't comprehend why people have to be like "No, it's our toy and you can't play with it!" with everything in this industry. And agreed, Vesperia's world is much better than Grace's. My problem is, I like Graces f more than Suckbox's Vesperia and it's for that very reason that my choice is Graces f, instead. Because I don't get to play the good version of Vesperia. .-.

[sub]My biggest disappointment is not being able to play Flynn for more than that one battle outside Aurnion. Microdicks can screw themselves.[/sub]

Edit:I recommended all three Arland games in a thread about JRPGs. Even recommended all three Atelier Iris games because they're delicious, too.
