These are both really old songs, but so far nothing's beat these 2 for me:

1) "Oh god of hell I said I love the suit
that the devil gave me to wear in Beirut
where the whores are dancing on the tabletops
and the jukebox plays ... apocalyptic bebop"
From Home of the Brave by The Nails (and the ellipses are really important). You know what, I just changed my "real" name to Apocalyptic Bebop!

2) "She had an horror of rooms she tired you can't hide beat".
From Scary Monsters and Super Creeps by David Bowie.

If you tolerate this then your children will be next.

From, surprisingly, If You Tolerate This Then Your Children Will Be Next by Manic Street Preachers.

or that one:

"WHO'S THE MAN WHO STOLE FIRE FOR THE PEOPLE?
WHO CAUSES TREMBLING IN THE BONES OF EVIL?
WHO CARVED A MOUNTAIN INTO A CATHEDRAL?

I AM IMMORTAL."

Killing in the Name by Rage, I think you know the line already.
could it be "************...UH!"?

that masterwork of lyrical subtltey and finesse?
No I do believe its the pure Shakespearean verse of "Fuck You I Won't Do What You Tell Me" As much as we all mock it, powerful words/song :)

There's a lake, and at the bottom you'll find all my friends.
They don't swim 'cause they're all dead.
We never are what we intend or invent.

- 'At The Bottom' by Brand New.

Maybe you're the one that's over-rated,
Shriek and scream, much too horrified to speak.

- 'Is it Progression if a Cannibal Uses a Fork?' by Chiodos.

I will never be perfect 'cause I'll never be you.
- 'This is Why We Can't Have Night Things' by The Blackout.

The only thing that looks good on me is you: Bryan Adams
You remind me of my jeep: Nelly

Or if you want to be depressed for a while

When I was a young man I carried my pack
And I lived the free life of a rover
From the Murrays green basin to the dusty outback
I waltzed my Matilda all over
Then in nineteen fifteen my country said Son
It's time to stop rambling 'cause there's work to be done
So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun
And they sent me away to the war
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we sailed away from the quay
And amidst all the tears and the shouts and the cheers
We sailed off to Gallipoli

How well I remember that terrible day
How the blood stained the sand and the water
And how in that hell that they called Suvla Bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter
Johnny Turk he was ready, he primed himself well
He chased us with bullets, he rained us with shells
And in five minutes flat he'd blown us all to hell
Nearly blew us right back to Australia
But the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we stopped to bury our slain
We buried ours and the Turks buried theirs
Then we started all over again

Now those that were left, well we tried to survive
In a mad world of blood, death and fire
And for ten weary weeks I kept myself alive
But around me the corpses piled higher
Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over tit
And when I woke up in my hospital bed
And saw what it had done, I wished I was dead
Never knew there were worse things than dying
For no more I'll go waltzing Matilda
All around the green bush far and near
For to hump tent and pegs, a man needs two legs
No more waltzing Matilda for me

So they collected the cripples, the wounded, the maimed
And they shipped us back home to Australia
The armless, the legless, the blind, the insane
Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla
And as our ship pulled into Circular Quay
I looked at the place where my legs used to be
And thank Christ there was nobody waiting for me
To grieve and to mourn and to pity
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As they carried us down the gangway
But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared
Then turned all their faces away

And now every April I sit on my porch
And I watch the parade pass before me
And I watch my old comrades, how proudly they march
Reliving old dreams of past glory
And the old men march slowly, all bent, stiff and sore
The forgotten heroes from a forgotten war
And the young people ask, "What are they marching for?"
And I ask myself the same question
And the band plays Waltzing Matilda
And the old men answer to the call
But year after year their numbers get fewer
Some day no one will march there at all

Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me
And their ghosts may be heard as you pass the Billabong
Who'll come-a-waltzing Matilda with me?
bloody hell... where can i find this song?

Don?t wait for me, you?ve got a lot, to do you?ve got a lot, to be,
And in the end maybe, I?ll see you there.

From As The Footsteps Die Out Forever by Streetlight Manifesto.

Full song:

She was diagnosed on a Friday,
The kids were almost home,
The kids were on their way back home from school,
Lying face down in the gutter,
Of unaccomplished dreams,
And broken memories of things to come.
"Sorry ma'am, I really am. I had to break the news.
I had to make the phone call to tell you that you're due,
You know where, I'll tell you when,
And I suggest you start living these next three weeks,
The best way that you can."

Every night for three long weeks,
She?d roam the hallways half asleep,
And as the footsteps fade away,
In my mind, I could swear, I could swear, I heard her say:
Don't wait for me, you?ve got a lot to do, you?ve got a lot to be,
And in the end maybe, I'll see you there.

Lost her strength on a Saturday,
Spent the day in bed.
Yeah, I'm fine; it's just the flu she said, with a smile,
But when they turned their backs,
The tears would flow.
She knew she only had a while, to live,
To breathe, to be, to see, to bleed,
To stand on her own two weakened feet,
"And so I pray everyday: don't take my mother away"

Every night for three long weeks,
She?d roam the hallways half asleep,
And as the footsteps fade away,
In my mind, I could swear, I could swear, I heard her say:
Don't wait for me, you?ve got a lot to do, you?ve got a lot to be,
And in the end maybe, I'll see you there.

Every night for three long weeks,
She?d roam the hallways half asleep,
And as the footsteps fade away,
In my mind, I could swear, I could swear, I heard her say:
Don't wait for me, you?ve got a lot to do, you?ve got a lot to be,
And in the end maybe, I'll see you there.
And in the end you know ill see you,
There and in the end I?ll see you there.

Don?t wait for me, you?ve got a lot, to do you?ve got a lot, to be,
And in the end maybe, I?ll see you there.

Really, really depressing.
the song is originally by catch 22. their singer formed streetlight and they re-recorded the whole keasby nights albums
I know, but I prefer the Streetlight versions of pretty much every song Tomas Kalnoky has ever written (except for Supernothing, because the original Gimp version is best).
i like streetlight more as well but i suspect that part of the reason is that their albums are better produced

-Sundown, by Gordon Lightfoot

Sometimes I think it's a shame, when I get feeling better 'cause I'm feeling no pain.
Sometimes I think it's a sin, when I feel like I'm winning when I'm losing again.

-Behind Blue Eyes, by The Who
When my fist clenches, crack it open
Before I use it and lose my cool
When I smile, tell me some bad news
Before I laugh and act like a fool

She's Not There, by The Zombies, covered by Santana
Well no one told me about her, what could I do
Well no one told me about her, though they all knew
But it's too late to say you're sorry
How would I know, why should I care
Please don't bother tryin' to find her
She's not there

'Happy the man - he lives a simple life
He doesn't have much - it doesn't worry him
Where you go - when?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, nowhere

Like a nun with a gun - I'm wonderful fun
Laughing all through - just watching you
Seems a very stupid game...
But I don't care

Happy the man - he doesn't buzz around
Nothing he wants - any more than anything
Where you go - when?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, nowhere

Like a fool in a pool - I'm incredibly cool
With a grin on my chin - I'm certain to win
Someone says he's Jesus Christ - but I don't care

He is a good man...'

"The morning is dead and the day is too
There's nothing left here to lead me, but the velvet moon
All my loneliness I have felt today
It's a little more than enough to make a man throw himself away
And I continue to burn the Midnight Lamp, alone."
