US ARMY = Uncle Sam Ain't Released Me Yet

YMRA SU = Yes My Retarded Ass Signed Up

USMC = Uncle Sam's Misguided Children

NAVY = Never Again Volunteer Yourself

Just in case anyone thinks this is anti-military or current to today's politics: I learned these in boot camp way back in '88. -:D

EDIT: And since some folks have mentioned military shouts as well (oo-rah, boosh), there's a special one for my home slices of white bread back in the 3rd Armored Cavalry.

"Brave Rifles! Veterans! You have been baptized in fire and blood and come out STEEL!" --- General Winfield Scott (from the Regimental Accolade)

AY-EE-AH! And you had BEST shout that at the top of your goddamn lungs, trooper!

Other cute bits of trivia: of 23 members of the regiment who've received the Medal of Honor, "Buffalo Bill" Cody is one. "Kit" Carson also served, having joined up to become a lieutenant, but was discharged later when Congress refused to confirm the commission.

One I heard often was "sack" which just means worthless at everything.

Not too many clever slang terms in the NZ Army. Plenty of fucking TLAs though.

I do remember constantly getting promised a Helicopter Ex where they'd organise a training exercise where we'd get Helicopter support. Never happened. Instead the platoon sergeant got us to take our toggle ropes out and march back to barracks spinning them around our heads.

BOHICA - Bend Over, Here It Comes Again.
SNAFU. <-- That's mainly because of the exchanges with it between the army and the navy.

Navy version: Situation normal, Army fucked up.
Army version: Some Navy asshole fucked up.

Dude, you have just made my day. That is some of the funniest slang ever. I especially like the slang "Angel Raper" for the AA units

LPC -- Leather Personnel Carriers, a three letter acronym for "boots." Granted, I leaned it from the instruction manual of this game where you play as a combat medic, so it may have been made up, but it seemed to be legit.
I certainly heard this one in the army.

Jackboots.
That isn't slang. It's actually a particular style of boot.

I didn't even make it out of basic training before I heard these.

I think my favorite thing I ever heard in the army actually wasn't military slang at all.

A friend (who was new at the job) was lamenting how difficult the job could be, especially when deployed. There was a short bit of back and forth with someone mentioning in passing some reference to WoW.

So, as I went to my tent for the evening, he returned to work and said "Well, I'm off to grind some message traffic. Hopefully I'll hit level 10 analyst by morning!".

The timing, delivery and situation were absolutely perfect. I very nearly died laughing.
