I saw it for the first time a few days ago on TV, and then I saw The American last night, and I wish I had just watched In Bruges again.

QFT, I don't even have to look at what the winner atcully was to know that Children of Men was robbed. One of the most original, inovatively shot, harrowing, emotional films to come out this decade. Everything about the film is pure film making perfection, one of the best opening scenes I think I've ever seen. Before you even see anything the voice over tells you everything you need to know to set up the film:supernovashadow said:I didn't care for In Bruges and I'm a little biased towards The Dark Knight since I love all things Batman but Children of Men was definitely robbed. I can't even remember what won that year but I can guarantee it wasn't as good.
I could kiss you! 2nd favourite film ever, first being Apocalypse Now which didn't win either.Hubilub said:Waltz With Bashir should have won that freaking Best Foreign Film Oscar
I disagree I thought that Hurt Locker was better than District 9 I liked both movies though. Never saw Slumdog Millionaire so I can't really comment on that but I really don't care what movies win what awards its all a popularity contest.arbiter592 said:You guys can name a couple of movies that got robbed at the Oscars in the past 3 years. I personally thought that District 9 was robbed last year by Hurt Locker. And that Slumdog Millionaire was shit, and Dark Knight shouldve won then. But, I want to hear your opinions.
I'm sorry, but I've got to point this out: Xenophobia? On a decline? You do realize that the President of Zimbabwe is pushing for the removal for any white person, even a locally born white person, to own or operate a business throughout his country, right? That's just a little bit Xenophobic.uro vii said:And District 9 isn't like it is here, but I still enjoyed the film in its own right. Hell, I enjoyed it even the its apparent social commentary is years to late.arbiter592 said:I probably am biased against Slumdog Millionaire because I am Indian. It just seems that thats how everyone views India in the world and thats not how its really like there.
Edit: let me qualify that original statement better. The whole alien thing obviously isn't happening in South Africa right now. The crime rates are massively high. Xenophobia is in a decline, but it was/is real. In that, the film is correct. However, you don't see this everywhere, and to be honest our biggest issues cannot be seen, directly at least, in the streets, and they are not even touched on by the film. District 9's commentary caught onto an already diminishing issue in South Africa. To be honest it is little more then a action film now, though, that being said, it is a very good action film.
I'm referring to the South African Xenophobia attacks specifically. Mugabe's actions also stem more from racism then Xenophobia, seeing as most of the white people are Zimbabwean born.TheMaddestHatter said:I'm sorry, but I've got to point this out: Xenophobia? OT: Equilibrium. That movie deserved so much more than it got.
One of the finest films of Clint Eastwood's career (and that's saying a lot), and it didn't get nominated for a single award. I simply can't understand this; it seems like just the kind of film the Academy would like, apart from anything else. The Dark Knight deserved to win Best Picture, but Gran Torino ought to have been nominated. At least it was named one of the Top Ten Films of 2008 by the National Board of Review.NJ said:Gran Torino![]()
As long as we ignore Alexander. For the record though, In Bruges is awesome. If nothing else, it was nominated for Best Original Screenplay.King_Burger said:Colin Farrell is a god.reg42 said:Why didn't In Bruges win an Oscar? It was fantastic dammit.
