Just finished watching Sucker Punch about five minutes ago. Great film, I really liked it. I had a feeling Zack Snyder would knock it out of the park when he got a shot at doing his own thing, rather than a remake or an adaptation.

My favourite film of last year was Drive. I still can't get over how good it was. Arthouse action perfected.

Dr Strangelove.
(Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the war room!)

Yeah, I know. I'm surprised I only saw it last week too! D=

I recently watched Highlander, and what a great film it is. In my mind the sequels just don't exsist. Before this I watched the Mad Max trilogy, 3 amazing films but the second is probably my favourite but Mel Gibson is awesome in all 3.

I recently rewatched Repo! The Genetic Opera. Still love it. I also saw The Cabin in the Woods, which is now in my top three favorite movies. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but if you like Joss Whedon stuff, you'll probably enjoy this movie.

I haven't watch many new films in a while, but I did recently rewatch a few. Last was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I previously found this entry to be shallow, but on my second watch through I noticed so much more that you only understand once you've seen the movie once. It was surprisingly well planned and crafted.

The movie before that was Battle Royale with the missus, cause I wanted her to see the real thing before she ran off to watch the cheap knock off, Hunger Games. Even I was a little taken back by how brutal Battle Royale is, even today. Honestly I'm surprised it's allowed to be viewed in some of the prudent countries: i mean, kids, and especially girls, getting shot to pieces or stabbing each other? Holy crap. Still blows me away. Not that I don't love the film any less, but it really makes me wonder how well it would have been recieved had it been released today and not 10 years ago. If anything it feels like the worlds become more uptight since then.

The best one, without a doubt, has to be Sauna. Absolutely loved it.
Woot! Thank you so much, acquiring now; it's hard to find a good horror movie out there, and they don't come much better then euro-films (Love REC 1 and 2). If you have any more good, lesser known horrors, do tell.

Well, I only just got around to watching Pulp Fiction.

Which is a shame, seeing as how it's now my favorite movie of all time.

Latest movie I saw was John Carter.
I will say that it was a hell of a lot better than the trailers and general reviews led me to belive.
The Norwegian trailer was some of the worst advertising i've seen in recent years. It showed barely anything of the movie, and what it showed gave the wrong impression of how the movie really was.
But the most annoying thing was the tag line; "Fortapt i vår verden, forsvunnet i en annen" (Norwegian) or "Lost in our world, disappeared in another" if I translate it.
This line just doesn't work at all, and I get pissed when I think that someone got paid to write that.
Eh...well that rant came out of no-where. But to sum up, see John Carter, it was really good and the 2 hours + running time felt like a standard 90 minutes.
The 3D was OK, not a big fan of the gimmick but it didn't seem out of place.

Recently, as in the last month? Well, I've only seen The Hunger Games in the last month, so I guess that would be the best.

Machete. The bit where he slits the guys belly open and uses his guts to absail down the building was unforgetable. It managed to be even better than Planet Terror.

I think robert rodriguez may be my new favourite director.

Batman: The Dark Knight.

I'm not one for superhero movies, but day'um that was one good film. Better than good, in fact.

Drive

I haven't seen a movie shot this beautifully since No Country for Old Men, and the soundtrack took my breath away.

And ofcourse the performances where outstanding. Ryan Gosling is officially the coolest dude in the world.

Last night I rented the Edge with Anthony Hopkins. Seriously, a damn good film. Hopkins fights a fucking bear in it. Go see it.

And then last week, I saw the Hunger Games which surprised me considerably when you think about how many people have just turned their noses up to it since it came out. I watched the whole thing, and to actually compare it to Battle Royale is incredibly short sighted. The two movies are nothing alike in tone, atmosphere, setting, character arcs, theme, and even the ultimate messages about society are different. The fact that a one sentence summary of both plots are similar (A group of kids must fight to the death because of the government) does not make it a ripoff.

I mean, to compare these two films is like comparing the Godfather to Goodfellas because they're both period pieces about crime families.

Hell, I'll even say I liked Hunger Games better, since I personally don't like overly violent films and Hunger Games was more tasteful in its violence compared to Battle Royale.

Saw 'Up in the Air' the other day and really apperciated it's incisive humour, stellar peformances and how it swiftly veered away from convention in it's denouement, leaving you with something ambiguous to mull over. Was also really blown away by 'The Wrestler'; a very sombre and moving character piece, I mean Mickey Rourke just owns that role and as someone who used to watch wrestling as a kid it made the damage he was putting himself through all the more resonant, suffering through all the affliction for the only reprieve now left to him; that invigourated crowd chanting his name. If you've seen the film:

Cassidy: You could really hurt yourself.

Randy: I know what I'm doing in there. Out here's where I get hurt.

Then that line really sums it all up, powerful stuff.
