Well, tomorrow I am going to Soundwave which is something I have been excited about for a long time. The lineup can be found here. This will only be my second festival (usually can't afford to go to others) but as soon as Blink 182 was announced I knew I had to go. The last time they came to Australia was when I was too young to go to a festival. I'm hoping it will be an awesome day because some of my favourite bands will be there.

So, I now ask the question, what was your best music festival/concert experience?

The best music festival I've been to would've been Lowlands 1999, I saw only 1 act, but the weather was great, the people were great, and I was enjoying myself thoroughly.

Musically I liked the 2000 edition more, I spent almost the entire festival by myself, ditching my friends and seeing the acts I wanted to see.

This year will be my 9th visit to Lowlands Festival, and I've been to a bunch of others as well. But LL is usually my musical high-light of the year.

Bulldozing my way through the crowd to mosh pit ground-zero, just in time for the curtain to fall for Slipknot's set at Heavy MTL last year. I don't think I will ever be able to top that experience.

A close second would be when I grabbed the hand of Andy LaPlegua during Combichrist's set at Kinetik.

Download Festival 2011

Kind of the same deal as OP, saw SOAD were headlining and bought my ticket there and then.

I would have payed the full price just to see SOAD and Bowling for Soup two days in a row.

Went to Bonnaroo a few years back. Metallica & Pearl Jam were headlining the show, but it was four days of just about every genre of music, I saw so many awesome bands ranging for big names like the headliners to little obscure artists that I've never even heard of & it was all awesome. Of course it might have been so awesome because the smell of pot was everywhere & you could catch a contact high from just walking around.

AWOLNATION did a concert in my town. I've been to about 10 concerts, including Def Leppard and Warped Tour, and they are the band to beat in live concerts for me so far.

The only music festival I've ever been to is Pitchfork. They had a stand dedicated to ironic hats. It was exactly what I expected and feared, but the music was good at least.

I just can't think of anything any more Pitchfork than a stand dedicated to ironic hats. They were probably doing it to be ironic too, which only makes it worse.

OT: I went to the last night on 2011 Reading festival, and so far that's sadly pretty much the only one I've been too (though this year's lineup for the same fest looks good, I must say).

Well, most of the bands I like broke up or stopped touring by the time I was born so I haven't been to many concerts. Of the few I've been to my best experience was in the mosh pit for Tenacious D at the Santa Barbara Bowl. The music was epic, there was plenty of pot smoke, and some random girl told me she liked my face. It's not exactly Woodstock or anything but it was awesome.

saw murderdolls a few years back in london..me n a mate went for shits and giggles .it was awesome,we both came out looking like we had 3 rounds with mike tyson. but that was by far the best gig ive ever been to (despite having seen several bands that were better live...there was just something about it that set it apart... one of those nights where everything was just right )

[edit]

The rain even stopped long enough for Bowling For Soup to play, it started again shortly afterwards. Proving conclusively that as they said, they are Gods favourite band.

One of my favourite festival memories would be Reading Festival 2004, basically to see Greenday on the Sunday night. Unfortunately 50 Cent had been booked to play the festival too, under Greenday and the reaction to this on the forums was unhappy to say the least. Anyway, I decided to stop and watch him to see if he was going to get the abuse that had been promised.

It was better than I expected. As soon as he set foot on stage, he and his G-Unit came under an almost constant barrage of bottles and basically anything that the fans could lay their hands on, not that G-Unit took politely took it, they were giving as good as they got. This continued for the whole 15 minutes Fiddy was on stage, its as if they had been saving those bottles all weekend.

Then there was Download 2006, the year of the Devils curse. You see, I the night before Download I was watching a documentary about The Omen and it got to the point where it was talking about the birdstrike that caused the plane to crash that the producers were supposed to be on. I mention to my brother that the Devil should know which plane to crash. Anyway, it was on the journey to Donnington that I was telling my friend about this and I was just about to repeat my comment when a pheasant flew out and hit the front of my friends car. We laughed, I'm not a religious person but that weekend, I think I pissed off some cosmic force. For a start, the weather leading up to Download had not been that hot, that weekend, it was blisteringly hot for the entire fucking weekend which sapped all energy throughout the day, it was a blessing when it got dark. I got really bad blisters on my feet, it was painful to walk by the end of the weekend. Someone who had come with us was playing football, took a bad tackle and broke his leg. My friends tent got destroyed. Oh, and on the Sunday night, the place erupted into riots where people clashed with riot Police and destroyed a lot of property. Which is odd because that sort of thing had never happened before or since at Download. And the curse had one last sting left in its tail, as we were carrying all our stuff to the car, about 5 minutes from the car, the heavens opened and soaked us all to the bone.

I learned a valuable lesson that weekend. Do not mock the Devil.

I've been to far too many festivals to list everything but yeah, its something that I enjoy doing, I'm not sure which ones I'm going to yet, I'd like to see Rammstein at Download and I'll probably go to Leeds again. I wanted to go to Glastonbury, but woke up too late to get tickets. Maybe next year.

As for gigs, the most recent on I went to was The Joy Formidable at The Rescue Rooms in Nottingham, they were fucking awesome. That is all.

Warped Tour has been fun for me every time I've gone; they always mix a good number of scene bands with some that are actually truly worth seeing, which leads to an overall good experience every time. Sure, it's hot, there's lots of merchandising and product placement, and there are lots of freaks there, but it's always worth it regardless.

I don't know if the annual Summer Slaughter package tour really counts as a festival in this context, but this past years' concert was the best I've ever been to. Stellar, diverse lineup, consisting entirely of bands worth seeing, no filler whatsoever.

Bluesfest in Ottawa two years ago was AWESOME!

Unfortunately it came to a (slightly) premature end when this happened:

Luckily nobody was seriously hurt or killed from this.

But yeah, other than THAT, it was awesome.

Oh yay, I love those guys. They're at Reading Festival this year too, on Saturday. Yet another possible reason to go, because they are mesmerising.

Best gig I ever went to was Paramore in Nottingham, UK back in 2010.

So much energy and emotion in that night, it was unforgettable.

Pro tip: Skip to about 3:05 to watch Hayley Williams fall over on stage.

Where did you get the info about them playing Reading/Leeds? Though to be fair, it doesn't surprise me seeing as they're touring their new album.

Nothing, and really mean Nothing beats Rammstein on a gig: It is just the most awesome live-performance I've ever seen! The sheer amount of pyrotechnics is mind-blowing... When a stadion-full of people can feel the flames and the music in their bones, you are definitely doing something right!
