Just stick on some Folk Metal. Get a bit of Ensiferum going, or maybe some Equilibrium. Perfect for any situation.

The tone of the game decides the type of music being listened to.
Although listening to "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" by Donovan is quite funny when playing an ultra violent game.

Strangely enough, I actually find music that clashes with the atmosphere of most games to work quite well. I mean, if I want to get pumped up, sure, I'll listen to trance (mostly DJ Tiesto), but I find the best music for me to listen to when gaming is actually the golden oldies like The Andrews Sisters, The Ink Spots & Billie Holiday.
Although, I guess it depends on the mood I want to set. I mean, if I were playing an RPG and wanted to set a more depressing atmosphere I would go for something operatic/orchestral, like Agnus Dei, throwing in some Tori Amos & Eva Cassidy. And I frequently have. I've had some great moments in Fallout 3 clearing out hordes of feral ghouls in the subways to the strains of, "Ain't no sunshine when he's gone..."
