And I think this is an unfair question to ask because its pretty much going to be one big circle jerk of saying "Avatar: The Last Airbender"

But the old Nicktoons were not complete sloutches. And personally Hey Arnold is my absolute favorite Nicktoons of all time. The characters are all 3 dimensional people. You know their backstories, you see their famalies. And Arnold is probably the most good guy person I have ever seen.

So many funny episodes and so many heartbreaking episodes. (Mr. Hyunh's backstory)

Was more of a Cartoon Network kid myself, but I remember Hey Arnold had a really good episode with Helga talking to a therapist. It was like a flashback episode and if I remember correctly a secret pilot for a Helga spinoff show that never happened.

I was a bigger Cartoon Network fan myself. I had Toonami and Genndy Tartakovsky and Ed,Edd, n Eddy.

Hey Arnold was great. It's one of the first cartoon shows I remember watching and thinking that it had a truly human side to it - that these characters were developed as people, not just vehicles for slapstick. The show's messages were always very tender and humane and asked of you to be patient and understanding of people. I hold the show very dear to me. Wish I could be as good as Arnold.

Rocko's Modern Life is another great show, for wholly different reasons that I can't expound right now because I'm running late for a movie.

I have more cherished memories with Rocko's Modern Life then Ren and Stimpy :p

Remember Courage the Cowardly Dog? That show scared me more than a few times!
And of course

Man, looking bad it was very LoveCraftian wasn't it?

Hey Courage the Cowardly Dog even had its tear jerking moments. Remember Courage's origin? And the Space Squid.

I absolutely love Invader Zim. Sure, it's part of the whole "angsty 00s teenager" aesthetic by now but it is genuinely a really good cartoon full of off-beat humour and Jhonen Vasquez's amazing art style and world building. It's like, imagine if Steven Universe was really weird and messed up and full of cruelty and misanthropy. I love that stuff.

I still do not see the appeal of Steven Universe and Adventure Time yet people lump both shows as "Squeee Greatest Cartoon Network show of all cartoon network shows past and future"

Yeah thanks Watchmojo :p

I love Steven Universe because it has a relentlessly uplifting vibe without being completely patronising with one-dimensional characters. It's fine if you don't like it though, it's definitely not for everyone. As for Adventure Time, I haven't seen much of it. It's nice but nothing about it really grips me the way shows like Steven Universe and Invader Zim do.

You're going to get a lot Avatar and Hey Arnold, but I've really grown an appreciation for the latter. I have to agree with a lot of what Johnny Novgorod said in regards to the show. Arnold is a great reluctant hero who seems to be an amazing representation of how kindhearted children can often be. The background characters who occupy stereotypical roles are much more fleshed out with their own episodes and backstories and the show in general tackles quite a few adult concepts very well.

I know I might not have appreciated the show as much as it was running as I do now in retrospect, but it was really that damn good.

Best Nickelodeon cartoon? Not counting Avatar, probably a tie between Ren and Stimpy and Rocko's Modern Life. Those shows snuck so much vulgarity past the censors and straight over the minds of kids. They were funny back then, and now even more entertaing when you realize what they got away with.

Also, who could forget things like Log, Don't Whiz on the Electric Fence, Really Really Big Man, and the Chokey Chicken?

Haha! The oddball who doesn't like Avatar or Hey Arnold! approaches. I never watched Avatar seriously and actually disliked Hey Arnold!. Best show would be down to Danny Phantom or Fairly Odd Parents for me. I enjoyed the art style and premise for both shows. Not to mention the kick ass intro songs.

I'll admit though, I was more of a Cartoon Network fan, preferring Courage, Grim and Evil, and Teen Titans.

Besides Avatar: The Last Airbender, you can't go wrong with Danny Phantom. Nice premise that created a lot of fun filled episodes. Maybe they hammered his dual-nature a bit much but oh well.

Rocko's Modern Life. I liked it for its zany antics as a child, but I actually enjoy it more now. It's amazing how much adult humor they managed to sneak in while still keeping it vague enough to go over kids' heads. I'm also a big fan of Joe Murray's style, particularly his aversion to drawing straight lines.

There's so many memorable moments and catchphrases that have stayed with me all these years. Whenever I go out for Chinese food with friends I always pretend my fortune cookie says "bad luck and extreme misfortune will infest your pathetic soul for all eternity."

Finally, who can forget the insanity that was "Wacky Deli?" It's uncanny how it predicted the rise of Youtube Poops over a decade later.

Lol, asking me which Nick show is the best....

There are, like, eight.

Spongebob
Fairly Odd Parents
Invader Zim
Jimmy Neutron
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Penguins of Madagascar

OK, thats only six, six that I like.

There's also Count Duckula, and Pinkie and the Brain, although those were only acquired by Nick and not created there.

Sponge-Motherfucking-Bob. Granted I haven't been able to see the last few seasons, but that show is a part of me. I'm twenty two and I'll watch it all day, and if anyone calls me out on it, they'll end up like Patrick. Under a rock.

It has quality and content, and by content, I mean a cubic shit-ton of memorable episodes. It basically IS Nickelodeon.
