Once I heard that chorus for the first time, I was hooked for all of eternity

It's really a VERY close tie here...

Lufia, a complete no-brainer.

Also, Terranigma:

And, last but not least, the song that got stuck in my head for several YEARS without me being able to remember where it was from - until I played FF9 again and got to that scene. Imagine the relief - best. Feeling. Ever. And yes, I mean best. Forget sex, hearing that song again was way better.

As much as I would love to post the entire soundtrack to Guilty Gear I can't do that without getting suspended for such a huge post. Nothing says kicking ass like a heavy metal soundtrack that's fast and gets you pumped

Well, as far as background music during gameplay, I love the entire Bastion soundtrack, and some of the old Sonic games had some great music for their time.

However, one of my all time favorite single tracks comes from Unreal Tournament 2004, and oh my did that series have tons of awesome background music. This particular track is called "Atlantis" and is at least in the top ten of my favorite pieces of music from a game, period.
I loved the UT games. Some of the best 'run and gun' out there. Too bad we'll probably never see another one.

Oh man, this is a tough one. I suppose that I absolutely adore two songs.

Silent Hill 2 "Promise": You can just feel the emotion in the music.

Final Fantasy X "Ending Theme":

By the way, I know this is a total newbie question, but how do you embed photos or youtube videos in a post? What tags do you use?

DuClare Chateau... from Deus Ex...

it's from the level where you're in the DuClare Chateau... it just such a good track from that OST... that and the main theme are certainly the standouts... it really does and amazing job of establishing the mood and tone of the entire game as something new and unique...<.<

Than there's the entire Nier OST... the game was pretty damned good... but generally over looked...

Just so great... apart from doing an amazing job setting the atmosphere and fitting in with the actual world amazingly well, each and every single song on this OST just, goes so far above and beyond, filled with emotion and passion and just so well orchestrated and written and going so far beyond to be inventive and interesting... It's so great... and it really helped make the game... in some instances the OST did a better job conveying atmosphere or intensity than the game did...

Goddamn, I love this soundtrack...<.<

I put it in a spoiler because its quite a bit of videos.
All the songs are really good in Daikatana, a fact that is rarely mentioned given how people love to hate the game. I believe most the music was by Will Loconto

This next one in my opinion is a Chris Huelsbeck classic.

Oh oh, how could I forget the ever so wonderful work of Alexander Brandon. His style is so delightful, especially with that signature distorted bass.

Lastly, the wonderful work of Kirill Pokrovsky. This guy is amazing. He just pushes out so much amazing music. Every song he made is amazingly unique. He is really good at capturing a sort of ethereal ambience which is powerful yet not overbearing. Also try listening to Lovis Tower, that is one of my favorites.

Also a bonus: (if you thought Morrowind or Baldur's Gate had the best Menu theme, you are wrong!)

Though I see some good RPG music (and some great ones), you guys completely missed the classics.

Far far too many to choose from, if I were to go through all my favourite pieces of video game music then I'd end up posting dozens of videos. Considering that the games containing some of my favourites have already been mentioned, I'm gonna go and make a mention of a game that I'm assuming nearly all of you haven't heard of /hipster.

Bonus points for the bitchin' boss fight that goes along with this.

I'll just leave this here.
Perhaps one of my favorite songs from any source.
