We have Tim Burton's 2005 version of Chocolate Factory to thank for coming up with yet another annoying little brat that is clearly a sociopath because he plays videogames.
They're not the only ones. You show me one person who likes RE5 more than RE4, and I'll show you someone who just got slugged in the gut--by me--for being so profoundly stupid. And don't even say "But, Goose, it's just an opinion and everyone's entitled to one," because NO. NO ONE IS ENTITLED TO THAT OPINION!erttheking said:the creators ignored 5 and went back to 4 and talked about that one. It seems that Yahtzee isn't the only one that prefers that one.
I am speechless (in a good way), I was expecting him to say "it's from Pokemon" so the audience would chuckle a bit. But they took the intelligent route and didn't explain the joke. For the flaws that House has, I give credit to the writers.Andy Shandy said:I think House's portrayal of video games are reasonably good. House himself plays video games every now and then, sometimes with employees, sometimes the employees played them amongst themselves. Including the virtual reality video game that exists with in the House universe.
And they even made a Pokemon reference!
Then again, I'd consider anything above demonizing video games to be reasonably good.
If you wanted to watch an anime about videogames maybe, but as a stand-alone story SAO is one of the worst things ever written. Gary-Stu protagonist and awful antagonists.VanQQisH said:If you like anime, go check out Sword Art Online. It's actually written by a guy that plays and loves MMOs. There's also Accel World to watch after SAO if you enjoyed that. Or even better than the anime, go read the novels. Whenever something happened and I wonder about the game mechanics behind it, the author was never far behind in explaining the situation. The anime is really more for the eye candy and is better to watch after reading the novels as it doesn't really explain much of what's going on.
I really think that there's no better representation of games than something written by a gamer out of love. Not something by some Hollywood writer that's been told to write about games next episode because that's what's popular.
I watch SAO for the setting, that is, SAO itself and the other game worlds in the series. It's more or less an idealised idea of an MMO that I can't help but wish was real. The story may not be perfect but I always just considered it a means by which the author gave you a tour through the various worlds he created.Lovely Mixture said:If you wanted to watch an anime about videogames maybe, but as a stand-alone story SAO is one of the worst things ever written.
