So I have recently decided to expand apon my musical taste and the types of musical genres I listen to. I've currently been listening to a bit of rap, and was wondering what you guys think is the best rap album out there (I'm old fashion and prefer to listen to whole CDs in my car). So Escapist what is the best rap album ever?

Try listening to Goblin by Tyler the Creator, I am not a fan of rap but this album was pretty good by my standards.

Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg.

Oh, such fun memories of blaring that out the window and upsetting the neighbours :D

I'm just going to say the first Anti-Pop Consortium album "Tragic Epilogue". I haven't actually heard the whole thing, but the last track is one of the greatest rap songs I've heard.

Ready to Die - Notorious B.I.G.

That album is more metal than most rock of the 90's. Favorite track was probably Warning.

WARNING!!
This song is extremely vulgar. Listen at your own discretion, far away from elderly people and/or other sensitive people.

The Chronic and 2001 by Dr. Dre are some of my favorites for awesome g-funk.

If you like angry, political-fueled rap Revolutionary Vol. 1 and The 3rd World by Immortal Technique are both fantastic albums.

The Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique (Acclaimed for its innovative use of sampling choices and dense beats)
cLOUDDEAD - cLOUDDEAD/Ten (One of the most experimental supergroups in hip-hop)
Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030 (Concept album. "Hip-hopera")
Eninem - The Marshall Mathers LP (Controversial lyrics but great production)
Kanye West - Late Registration/My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (Helped revived mainstream recognition of alternative hip-hop)
Madvillain - Madvillainy (Modern day masterpiece of alt. hip-hop)
Nujabes - Metaphorical Music/Modal Soul (Two albums by the late Jun Seba, one of Japan's most beloved beat makers known for fusing old jazz samples with original instrumentals and occasional ventures into ambient experimentation)
Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (Beats as full as the lyrics are critical and angry. One of the most important albums of the genre)

If you're thinking "best" as in "most infuential" then that has to be Public Enemy's "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back", which is easily the most important album for the development of popular music in the last 30 years. Note - I didn't type "most important rap album", I typed "most important album" - and for good reason. Modern pop and rock music simply would not sound the way it does today if it were not for that album.

However, in terms of "what I actually personally like to listen to" I'd probably go for either Mobb Deep's "Hell On Earth" or maybe Necro's "Pre-Fix For Death".

Does Gorillaz Count? Their best album is Demon Days, although their hip hop not rap. Here I'll also name a good Rap album (Which is hard since I don't particually like rap) , The Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem.

Also The Beastie Boys, they are gods among men.

Kanye West's Late Registration is pretty good, well all his stuff is good so...

Hydbrid Theory is rap I guess.

It's more ska, but Supergroove's first album is pretty good:

Another?

Considering the responses, and newbosity of the OP at discovering this "new genre", i'm going to guess that hip hop is included aswell, in which case:
Temporary Forever - Busdriver and The Cold Vein - Cannibal Ox.

Stankonia by Outkast. Really set them off as a group with staying power I think. They've come up with some pretty original sounds too, not to mention the fact that they've been around since 1994, so they gotta have SOMETHING going for them. Come to think of it.....pretty much any Outkast album is worth listening to.
