Baldur's Gate 2, no contest. I've played a lot of RPG's, but having control over 6 characters just makes the whole thing so much more complex and dynamic...

Tie between Baldur's gate 2 (For character driven story) and Planescape Torment (For simply amazing storytelling).

The original Baldur's Gate gets my vote, brilliant game. It had Elminster in it, and he barely appeared in BG2.

I'm so glad there are others who know the TRUTH of the Baldur's Gate Saga!
I'm a huge fan of both, and still play them (With Expansions) to this day.

Actually I use the BG Complete MOD so I can play through BG1 and it's expansion in the BG2 engine, and then move seamlessly into BG2. Which means I can use BG2 classes, races, and spells in BG1. Yeah, Wildmage in Candlekeep? It happens.

But I'm torn between the two as all-time favourite.
It's a tie.

Yea, Neverwinter Nights.
Really interesting story + great expansions (Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark)
I was and am still deeply let down by Neverwinter Nights 2, I'm just about to do the final fight and I feel I haven't really been attached to the story all that much, I do like the fact I can have my own keep and army (don't blame me for spoilers it says on the back of the box!)

I haven't yet played Mask of the Betrayer or Storm of Zehir, but I think I'd still prefer NWN1.

Mass Effect

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic: Elements

Neverwinter Nights (1&2)

Diablo (1&2)
You really liked Dark Messiah Elements? You should try the original, it's 1000 times better.
I have the original, and I have played it.
But it wasn't what I thought it would be...
Then I tried Elements, and I tought it was so much better then the original.

I thought Elements ruined the point of the game by making it class-based, the fun in the original was that you could choose whatever you wanted to be (even if it's a stupid hybrid archer/assassin/mage/warrior).

You can't pick, a) this forum is biased against jrpgs so you're condemmed if you pick one of those. Theres so many good ones on equal standing which I imagine there are very few people who've played all of them. So in order to appeal to the masses

JRPG: The Tales Series
WRPG: ...tch yeah go on then; Baulders Gate. (honestly how do you people PICK one)

Well, it makes it class based and that kinda sucks, but I still think that it works pretty well, even if it destroys the original concept.

I'm really surprised that no one said it was Gothic. I think Gothic is the most awsome game ever made ever.

So many choices...So many RPGs I love...

Well, I could dig up countless ones but I'd have to say my vote for best RPG is Final Fantasy X. I expect plenty of people to disagree, but man do I love that game. The looks, the style, the threats, the flow. I've adorred it since I first got it.

Other games that might take the slot include Morrowind and Jade Empire. Oh yes, those two rocked as well...

Final Fantasy X because it was my first RPG I played on a console. That game actually made me cry and I had a crush on Yuna but then again I was like 9 around that time. Ever since then I've been into more RPG's and played Final Fantasy 7 and thought it was ok I just hate cloud. But other than Final Fantasy I like The Elder Scrolls games KOTOR and Mass Effect

It could go four ways:

Planescape: Torment
Fallout 1
Arcanum
Vampire: Bloodlines

I prefer character, writing and choice in my RPG's..

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn
TES4: Oblivion
KotoR
Fallout 3, if it counts. If not, Chrono Trigger.
