Tales of Symphonia, Wizardry 8, and Baten Kaitos Origins come immediately to mind.
Bloody...I still haven't bought Baten Kaitos! Is it definitely worth buying both of them?
I believe so, yes.
The first game is a little more standard for an RPG, story-wise (which doesn't harm it, really), and the voice acting is absolutely horrendous (though you can turn it off, thankfully), but the game itself is pretty darn fun and the characters are still rather likable. Besides, it has one of the best plot twists I've seen in a game, and playing it makes the prequel more effective, storywise.
Origins really remixes the combat, making it the quickest-paced Active Time Battle system I've yet seen. The characters are deep, listening to Guillo and Milly banter is oddly entertaining, and the voice acting is not only head-and-shoulders above the original, but above most games in general that I've played. It also has a couple of gigantic twists that are really worth mentioning (both of which are far more effective if you've played the original).
So, yes, I recommend them both, and Origins especially.
