Persona 3, hands down. It's the only game I've ever played for longer than 6 hours without taking a break somewhere in between. The story and characters were simply amazing, and the music made it breathtaking.

Planescape:Torment. It felt...right. Plus city of Sigil is (was) one best settings in DnD universe.

Naming the best RPG would be rather hard.
Let me split it in categories.

Overall Masterpiece:
Baldurs Gate II
followed by Knights of the Old Republic I&II

Best Story:
Planescape Torment

Best Crossovers with turn based strategy:
- JRPG: Fire Emblem series
- SciFi/WWII: Silent Storm series
- placed at a more present setting: Jagged Alliance 2

Best JRPG:
Grandia II

Best 3rd person RPG:
Gothic II

What system are the Persona games for? because I've heard a lot of praise for them.

Final Fantasy IX. Why? Dunno. I just like everything about it.
I hear that!
That game is the true jewel of the entire series.

Also, Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind and Fallout 3.

I dont have alot of experience with RPG's, but from what I have played my favourite would have to be Fallout 3, I dont think I have spent so much time just wandering about a wasteland taking in the scenery.

Well I liked Bloodlines most, but I can say it's best, there are just so much great RPGs out there, not jRPGs, I don't really like those.

Oblivion.

On top of loving the games setting, lore, gameplay and graphics, I actually like the flaws as well. It would not be the same without the guards who run up and scream in your face, or the dodgy close up camera (although I fixed that by tweaking some setting in the INI). Even the deformed necks people have. It all adds to the charm.

Chrono Trigger. Game rocked so hard. Of the more modern games, I will admit to putting over 400 hours into FFX and FFXII combined. I do rather enjoy both games. Although my favourite RPG of modern times remains FFVII and always will it be so.

Final Fantasy X is nearest and dearest to my heart, probably because that was the first real RPG I ever played, and I've replayed it many times. For WRPGs, fallout 3. I've probably spent more than 200 hours playing it and replaying it.

Dragon Quest 8. I was escaping from RPG most of my gamer life until I found this little gem. I am pretty sure some people think its not the best in the series, or a very good RPG, and I haven't played enough games to prove them wrong... But still, that game was awesome.

PS2. There is also a remake of Persona 1 for the PSP.

Persona 3 is pretty good, but my favorite on the series is Persona 4.
