In every instance I have heard dubstep, I have been incredibly annoyed, except in this instance. When this came on in Far Cry 3, it fit so perfectly and I found myself enjoying the music.

I like the "I'm made of wax larry.. blah blah" song. Really most pop-punk is just straight 16th and 18th notes played (or attempted to be played) fast by the guitarists. Some of it can have appeal if mixed in with some other things I like such as arpeggio sweeps and some odd chords. Like this song.Dangit2019 said:snip

Dangit2019 said:Oh yeah. I like A Day To Remember, but I'm not really going to say they're a great band or anything. They use more open C-string chugs than any other band I've ever heard in their non-poppy songs, but I love 'em all the same.shrekfan246 said:Ahh ADTR. And that song was pretty neat.
There are so so so so so many better examples of dubstep, this is right at the lower endHappiness Assassin said:

As far as I'm aware, this is largely an ideological thing. Indie bands (and fans) are fundamentally opposed to the concept of any sort of "showing off", so any form of solo is instantly out. I wouldn't call Franz Ferdinand indie, though - they're post-punk with a bit of garage rock.maninahat said:I dislike Hip Hop, but I can appreciate the lyrical talent and sense of humour that the better hip hop songs have. "Indie" music though...fuck that. Can't stand the lazy writing, the simplistic performance, and the outright inability for most indie bands to perform instrumentals. I mean, if you're going to come on stage and play your own instruments, let your guitar do the talking once in a while, and stop depending on your kiddy lyrics.
I think his point is that hate is a pretty strong word. Once someone starts saying that they "hate" a genre, they've more or less closed themselves off from any possibility of giving any of it a fair chance.Eddie the head said:And I can spend all my life looking for a diamond in the sewer, but I am better off going to a diamond mine. Anyway that's an appeal to probability. I might find a hip hop song or something I like some day, but that doesn't mean I will. It also doesn't mean I am ignorant. I do try to like hip hop/rap songs. I just have yet to find on that I like.xplosive59 said:If you hate any genre of music it is because you haven't listened to it enough, there is excellent music in every genre you just have to search for it.

I am sorry you feel like that, if I could recommend some good Hip-hop for you to listen to, to see if I can persuade you:Eddie the head said:And I can spend all my life looking for a diamond in the sewer, but I am better off going to a diamond mine. I grew up during that time where any kind of vague rock was classified as indie, just to distance it from pop music (despite being exactly that). I imagine there probably are good indie instrumentals, but ironically, they aren't mainstream enough for me to have seen them about.OhJohnNo said:As far as I'm aware, this is largely an ideological thing. Wait, what do you mean "middle click"? You mean if I just - ohmygodthatsincredible!holyshithowhaveinevernotdonethisbefore?Coppernerves said:While Jazz, Classical/Baroque are generally boring to me (more often than other genres), there are three things in music that really grate on me.
Pop: Whoa, and Oh, and more Whoas and Ohs.
House: Boom, cha! Boom, cha!, Boom cha! Boom cha!
Drum and Bass: Boom boom cha! Boom badoom cha!
I hate thrash metal because in my experience it always layers up too much stuff to actually have a tune.
If I said I hated metal in general, I would be ignoring bands I accept, like AC DC and Iron Maiden, songs I like, such as Psychosocial, and the band I love:
