I apologize if this has been done before...
Since it's 2010 and the first decade of the current millennium has come and gone, I thought it would be somewhat interesting to see what everyone thought was the best television show of the past decade. I'll go ahead and go first.
Best Show of the Decade:
The West Wing (1999-2006); Yes, I know that this show started before the decade officially started, but it came into its prime after the turn of the century. It had a novel idea that no one had ever tried before, showing the country a fictional Presidential Administration and acquainting us with the biggest figures in the West Wing. It had incredible performances from Martin Sheen, John Spencer, Alan Alda, Jimmy Smits, Bradley Whitford, Rob Lowe, and the rest of the star-studded cast. It had deep and likeable characters from the quirky and idealistic Sam Seaborn(Lowe) to the genuine and caring Republican Senator Arnold Vinick (Alda) to the nerdy, intelligent, and compassionate President Bartlet (Sheen). The dialogue was superb and the storylines were top notch (most of the time). But, what really made this show click was the chemistry between the main characters and how utterly believable they were. I still watch my DVD set of the show all the time.
Honorable Mention:
Damages (2007-present); Another show that greatly benefits from incredible star power and great performances from the main characters. Non-linear story telling make this show compelling but hard to follow, and yet it works so damn well.
