Right so I still got 1 week left off before I have to return to university, but I've just finished every show I'm currently watching and I need something else to watch. I figured that we could post some of our favorite shows, and that way myself (and any of the other people reading) could maybe catch up on any great series they missed.

Shows that I think are fantastic:
- Firefly
- Game of Thrones (honestly I think my favorite TV show of all time, the characters are just amazing)
- Sherlock (the new English one)
- Doctor Who

Shows that I think are good
- Walking Dead
- Parks and Recreation
- How I Met Your Mother
- The IT Crowd (started yesterday at at like 8 pm season 1 episode 1, finished completely today at like 1pm)
- Suits
- Archer

Ya so those up there are shows that if someone asked to me to recommend them a good show I'd name one of them. What's your list Escapist?

Have you seen Jericho? I really enjoyed that show during its limited run. Well, mostly the first season, as after that point, when they knew cancellation was imminent, they really sped through it and made it a bit of a mess. But it's still one of my favorites.

Falling Skies is actually really cool. They always have that little twist or heart warming at the end of each episode. It's well done, also Pope is just funny to watch.

I'm a huge Supernatural fan, so I'd recommend that, at least to check a few episodes at least :p
It changes pretty much in season 3 and gets more story driven but still bases everything from season 1 and 2

The Sopranos and Twin Peaks.

Unfortunately Twin Peaks sorta starts to suck after the midway point though. Specifically after the "big reveal" occurs. But before that, the show is brilliantly weird, scary, and funny.

Leverage, Community and Psych are some of the most well written tv shows there is. Problem is, they're either on hiatus or cancelled.

My current top 5 in no particular order:
Psych - The greatest detective/comedy show created, and every episode is available of Netflix instant.
The League - Very funny and it gets funnier as the show goes on. On par with Parks & Rec, maybe a little better. The first three seasons are also on Netflix.
Hustle - Words can't describe how good this program is, the first three series especially. Unfortunately not available on Netflix.
Breaking Bad - It's awesome but I'm sure you've already heard that. I'm pretty sure every season including the first half of five is on Netflix.
30 Rock - My favourite US comedy(except for Psych) funnier than The League, Parks & Rec and the IT crowd. It is also available on Netflix or alternatively the first three seasons are available on LoveFilm instant.

I mostly watch comedy shows I can't get into serious dramas, they're too serious. I do like crime dramas such as Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy though.

I am with you up until Season 6. There were good episodes in 6,7 and half of 8 but it seems to have lost something. I think the main problem is the bad guy in 5 and what they have to stop. You cannot top that and now the writers are having to come up with badguys that are as big of a danger but not as good as S5.

OT:
Mine would be:
Firefly
Battlestar Galactica (2005)
Stargate Sg-1
Buffy (teenage crush, have never been able to shake it off)
Supernatural (upto Season 5)
Chuck (ending sucked)
The West Wing
Archer
Scrubs
Avatar:The Last Airbender

Doctor Who would have made the list a few years ago but since Moffat took over the show I have been either bored by the episodes or outright hated them because [insert random emotion here] wins the day over outerspace badguy number 1412. Plus I hate the Ponds. Good god did I hate the Ponds. And She who must not be named. I did, however like the Christmas episode which had neither the Ponds or THAT woman. But I honestly think that Moffat is highly overated. The way he got rid of the Ponds, I found a way round that inside of 2 mins. But at least they are gone.

Totally agree with you both. The problem is that Eric Kripke had originally intended the show to run for five years and wrote the story arc to resolve by then. But the network saw what a following it had and kept it going.

It's still not what it once was, but I continue to watch. How can you not love a show with an episode titled "Criss Angel is a Doucebag"?!

Yes! Vehemently and violently AGREE with you! Moffat seems to be retelling the same story with the same themes in different ways.

On topic, in addition to "Supernatural", I'd add (in no particular order)

- Battlestar Galactica (reimagined version)
- Justified
- Sons of Anarchy
- Breaking Bad (though it's ending soon)
- Dexter
- Doctor Who (at least 26.5 years of it)

Russel T Davis wasn't averse to using that either though. I mean, he used it in the season 3 finale for crying out loud.

I will never understand how the network thought they could continue after S5. I mean:
You cannot top fighting both the armies of hevean and THE FRAKING DEVIL HIMSELF as a stroy line. You just can't.

But,like you, I do stil watch it. It was worth it to see the latest episode where everything turns into a Cartoon and Cas's Columbo impression had me on the floor.

But it is just not the same without
Bobby. The Yoda of Supernatural.

RTD was in no way perfect. far from it but every bloody episode with Moffat seems to end with the bad guys one weakness being human emotion. I am not the best judge. I try to look at it objectivly but that fact is I liked David Tennent a hell of a lot more than I like Matt Smith and while I did not like his companions all that much I outright hated Amy and Rory, they just really innoyed me. And, while I am sure Moffat is a nice guy his creation of River BLOODY! Song has earned him a place in the deepest pits of hell.

I recently finished watching Boss and it is honestly one of the best tv shows I've ever seen. It's a political show that shows a more gritty look at the way democracy works. Absolutely amazing show with 2 seasons(18 episodes total). Only backside is that it was cancelled :(

If not, then I'd say HBO's Rome. Top 5 shows of all time no doubt about it.

Arguably only six episodes (s5e3 s5e11 s6e9 s6e11 s6e12 s7e1)in the last 2.5 series (that's my personal Moffat bugbear, the way he fucks about with the scheduling) have used that, not including christmas episodes where you can expect a higher cheese quotient in everything.

I don't have too big a problem with River, she's just like Captain Jack but with breasts. So I'll grant that she's not original but I have nothing against her character per se.

Amy, on the other hand, has always annoyed me for some reason. I think its the fact that she spends most of the time being a bloody useless liability, and then suddenly acts as though she's more bad-ass than everyone else.
