Aye, I just read this article, 'IGN's Best of 2010 Awards Nominations' and one of their many categories is 'Best Character'. I found it interesting, here's their list.
PC
General Knoxx (Borderlands: The Secret Armory of General Knoxx)
Illusive Man (Mass Effect 2)
Mr. House (Fallout: New Vegas)
Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell: Conviction)
Sofia Lamb (BioShock 2)
Playstation 3
Bayonetta (Bayonetta)
Joe (Mafia II)
John Marston (Red Dead Redemption)
Monkey (Enslaved)
Scott Shelby (Heavy Rain)
Wii
Oswald (Epic Mickey)
Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes 2)
Xbox 360
Alan Wake (Alan Wake)
DeathSpank (DeathSpank)
John Marston (Red Dead Redemption)
Mordin Solus (Mass Effect 2) YESSSSS!!!
Thane (Mass Effect 2)
Anyway, this thread isn't about the article itself, but about your choice on the best video character of 2010.
I will post mine in a minute.
My personal favorite of the year, as you can tell by the list, is Mordin Solus. I think we all know about the constant recycling of the gaming industry. You only have so many personalities, backstories and appearances to use until you start recycling.
It just appealed to me how original Solus was. Of course, there's going to be naysayer claiming that he was ripped off from one thing or another. It doesn't really matter to me. In short, he was a fast-talking, brilliant, funny Professor troubled by the things he has done in the past.
I don't know about Thane, though. Never found him interesting. He was badass, though.
