Aye, I just read this article, 'IGN's Best of 2010 Awards Nominations' and one of their many categories is 'Best Character'. I found it interesting, here's their list.

PC
General Knoxx (Borderlands: The Secret Armory of General Knoxx)
Illusive Man (Mass Effect 2)
Mr. House (Fallout: New Vegas)
Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell: Conviction)
Sofia Lamb (BioShock 2)

Playstation 3
Bayonetta (Bayonetta)
Joe (Mafia II)
John Marston (Red Dead Redemption)
Monkey (Enslaved)
Scott Shelby (Heavy Rain)

Wii
Oswald (Epic Mickey)
Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes 2)

Xbox 360
Alan Wake (Alan Wake)
DeathSpank (DeathSpank)
John Marston (Red Dead Redemption)
Mordin Solus (Mass Effect 2) YESSSSS!!!
Thane (Mass Effect 2)

Anyway, this thread isn't about the article itself, but about your choice on the best video character of 2010.

I will post mine in a minute.

My personal favorite of the year, as you can tell by the list, is Mordin Solus. I think we all know about the constant recycling of the gaming industry. You only have so many personalities, backstories and appearances to use until you start recycling.

It just appealed to me how original Solus was. Of course, there's going to be naysayer claiming that he was ripped off from one thing or another. It doesn't really matter to me. In short, he was a fast-talking, brilliant, funny Professor troubled by the things he has done in the past.

I don't know about Thane, though. Never found him interesting. He was badass, though.

I really loved Niko Belic. There was so much depth and personality in him.

Why did they do it by console if almost none of them are from exclusive titles? Anyway, my vote is for Mordin.

Sam Fisher and Travis Touchdown are my choices from the established list there. But my own personal choices would have to be these guys...

Thane (Mass Effect 2)
Woot!

I love all ME's characters, but especially these two, and especially-especially Mordin. My vote goes to him.

ME2 really did do its characters very well. They are the game's main strength for me, what with the Mako being removed and all.

Adol Christin! For finally having a proper debut on North American shores and for having the power to make women enamored with him despite not having any real dialogue! :D

The thing is, I want to know about the best NEW character for 2010. Some of my personal picks were established before now. But for the new guys of 2010, my picks are John Marston, Captain Smiley, and Scott Shelby.

Agreed, they could've just done an 'Overall' category.

Since when is Sam Fisher a 2010 character?
He's not. Neither is Bayonetta. It's IGN.

Shepard from Mass Effect 2, I found him to be very relateable and he seemed to make all the choices I would have made.

Mordin Solus. For all three categories. His presence goes beyond mere mortal understanding.

Heya. Scott Shelby is there and my vote automatically goes to him.

I wanted to give it to Ethan Mars (same game) or, dare I say it, Norman Jayden (same game), but, nah. It's Scott.
