Not sure that good vocalist and metal go together lol. That said I'm a fan of some offshoots of it. Just don't think any of them have good voices.

Daniel Mother Fucking Heiman

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMRvp4g2cdA (and the full song here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlvFn6afIoU)

this man is a monster, he is to vocalists what jesus is to christianity, for more of him check out Lost Horizon and Heed (his previous and current bands)

only person I can think of that even comes close is Jorn Lande

(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hQ03QfOxSE a cheesy song but damn... what a voice!)

another godlike voice who is easily one of, if not the vocalist to go to for sheer POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!!!!!!

I was reminded as I quoted you, and looked back at your message. They're quite awesome, although not my cup of tea. Although I did like Nightwish, Lost Eden, Arch Enemy and Kalmah. I must thank you, I've had a music drought recently and this was quite refreshing. So, congratulations, you win this:

Also, the Arch Enemy singer is scary. She sounds like a demon.
! The lost cake :D

Not your cup of tea? WHAT????

Nah, I'm just kiddin' If you don't like 'em, that's your own thing but I'm glad you liked those other bands. Lost Eden and Arch Enemy are my two favorites, though I'm surprised that since you like Children of Bodom so much that you haven't heard of Arch Enemy before.

And yeah, Angela Gassow sounds fucking amazing.
I had heard about Arch Enemy before. Hell, I even bought my brother one of their albums. I just never bothered to check them out until recently. And to say that I like Children of Bodom is an understatement. They're the most awesome thing to ever come out of Finland and I fucking love the guitar solos. (Although they're still no match against In Flames.)
Well, it's good you like them. They're one of my favorites along with Children of Bodom.

Although, I like CoB's newer stuff more than their other music

Like Hate Crew Deathroll and after are my favorite albums.
I like all of their albums. It's hard to pick a favorite since they're all so different. But if forced, I think I'll choose Blooddrunk. Are You Dead Yet was a brave effort, but it was a little bit lacking on the melody part (although it was still awesome, and I loved In Your Face). Blooddrunk was heavy, dark, and had excellent melodies.
I guess I agree with you about Are You Dead Yet, but if I had to choose a favorite, it'd be between Blooddrunk and Hate Crew Death Roll
Hate Crew Deathroll was really awesome, had nothing but solid, great songs. Needled 24/7, Sixpounder, and Bodom Beach Terror were my favorites off it.

Also, I don't know if it'd be in your taste, but have you heard the old In Flames albums? Back then their singer was really into growling.

Helge Stang (Technically former Equilibrium, but they haven't released a new album with the new guy yet) I'm not sure if I like his vocals, or the fact he's screaming them in German more. Still awesome.

The vocalist from Kamelot is pretty good too (Khan I think?)

Mikeal Akerfeltd.(Opeth)
James Hetfield. (sounds like a thundergod)
Dave Mustaine.
Frank Mullen.(Suffocation)
David Vincent.(Morbid Angel)
Chuck Schuldiner.(Death)
Tomas Lindberg. (At The Gates)
Antti Boman. (Demilich)
Paul Masvidal. (Cynic)

Growls are beautiful.

WTF is up with all the non metal singers/bands in this thread, seriously people learn your genres. :/
No love for Anders Fridén? He knows how to growl. (Yes, I'm mentioning In Flames much, so sue me)

Mike Patton, from Faith No More if you can call it metal.

The singer from between the buried and me.
The only growl i can listen to and he has some nice "normal" singing.

Devin Townsend

Craig Owens- Chiodos
Singer from The Number Twelve Looks Like You
Either singer from FELLSILENT

Justin Broadrick of Godflesh and Jesu. Yes, I know I talk about Godflesh all the time, but he really capture the essence of 'atmospheric vocals' for me. He's not the best singer in the world, but he knows what to do with his voice to create the perfect atmosphere for his songs, be they beautiful drones like he does with Jesu, or the heavy hitting industrial he does with Godflesh. It's amazing how diverse he can be, sometimes it seems like different people singing.
I will be listening to Jesu thanks for that!

As much as i like of the first inflames albums, i dont think Ander Friden is a strong growler, on the contrary, his growls are rather feeble imo, then he has that annoying metalcore screech/scream, and i never liked metalcore vocals, my favorite of his singing is acctually his clean voice, which i find is his strongest aspect of vocals.

And i dont think he knows how to growl compared to the likes of Mikeal Akerfeltd or Frank Mullen.
Oh well, to each his own, I guess. Personally, I think Anders has one of the most perfect singing/growling voices ever. He growls and sings with such intensity and emotion.

I haven't heard much of In Flames, but I'll listen to that later. I'm currently in a place where I can't listen to anything due to this computer not having any speakers.

And also a runner up to Hate Crew Deathroll would be Follow the Reaper soley due to the awesomeness of the song Mask of Sanity. I haven't heard anything else off that album but I'm in love with that song.

Listen to it. He's the ultimate singer in my opinion.

Yes, Follow The Reaper is to me equal to HCD in awesomeness. The songs I recommend are Follow The Reaper, Children of Decadence, Kissing The Shadows, and possibly Bodom After Midnight.

Mikael Åkerfeldt for already mentioned reasons.

Another singer with a wide voice register is Marko Eskola (Farmakon). His growls are great and his clean voice is unique in a weird way.

Mikael Stanne; Singer in Dark Tranquility
Thank God someone mentioned him. Took far too long though, the man's a genious.

Incidentally, my twenty-odd page metal thread recently died. It was a great place to chat about metal, and I'd revive it myself, but a double post plus necro is perhaps bad forum etiquette. If anyone wants to talk about stuff in there it's be awesome.
