New South Wales' new tourism slogan should be 'Come to NSW, we have mild weather here'. Seriously, the worst we get is killer hail very occasionally.

It's a pretty impressive cyclone though... 500km across, with windspeeds up to 320km/hr (that's 310 miles and 200mph for you Americans). Hooray for category 5 storms, am I right?
??? Closer to 900 km diamiter.

For the Americans with their tiny states :p Brisbane is about three days drive from Cairns. 1,681 km - about 22 hours all up. (And cairns is only halfway up the queensland coast, anywhere north of cairns is only dirt tracks and etc so it takes close to two weeks to drive the queensland coast from brisbane to the top, i went with family friends as a kid.)
Not sure how long ago that was but I use to live North of Cairns.

It's simply not true. You can drive to at least Cooktown on sealed roads.

Can we not just say best wishes to everyone in Queensland?
Technically yes, but a Yahtzee name-drop is a garanteed escapist demagouge trick to get undeserved thread veiws.

At the risk of saying what's been said 500 times already, Yahtzee will be fine.

He's in Brisbane. And while that was hit with flooding, this Cyclone is much further north. My Aunt informs me that my Grandmother (Who lives in Noosa on the sunshine coast - north of Brisbane) is perfectly fine.

Brisbane won't even notice this.

Cairns however...

Well, if this is the worst cyclone ever to hit Australia, let me just point out that I used to live in Darwin.

As such, I'm quite familiar with the history surrounding Cyclone Tracy.

Let me tell you, there was nothing left of Darwin after Cyclone tracy had passed through.
There's all of maybe 3 or 4 buildings that survived it in any shape or form.

If this is worse, I really fear for anything in the path of this cyclone.

Yeah, but the building code for all of Australia changed after Tracey.

Have you seen the varitable Pilboxes that everyone in Walagi, Wagaman, Leanyer etc (ie. some of Darwin's older suburbs) live in?

Queensland isn't as good, they've got a lot of Queenslander style houses (Funny that...) which aren't as good but would still hold up against tracy.

I think you'll find Cairns faired pretty well. Innisvale and Cardwell not so much.

It had winds in excess of 300km/h when it hit the coast.

It was still Cat 5 when it passed my Dad's, but he lives on a sea side cliff, and also got the eye so...

It was a category 5 cyclone when it made landfall at mission beach and innisfail, maybe you should read the news and understand what is being said, it is a category 2 cyclone NOW as its been travelling inland for approx 19 hours. As it travels inland it loses power. It is expected to be a category 1 cyclone by thhe time it hits mnt isa at 8pm tonight and then die after that.

Cooktown is NOWHERE near the top of queensland. Go get a map. Better yet, drive from cooktown to seisha and then tell me how long it took you.

I think this whole disaster could have been avoided if we took Yahtzee out to the cyclone and had him talk in the opposite direction of the wind. The sheer force of both Yahtzee talking and a cyclonic wind would either cancel eachother out or form a super cyclone...

...What would we call it? The Yahtzee Yasi Cyclone?

He lives in Brisbane, way south of the cyclone and the floods there have subsided and on the way to recovering. Let's just say best wishes to those who are actually affected by the cyclone alright?

The first time I heard this on the news I actually thought they said "hurricane Yahtzee".

Australia does seem to get a lot of shit these days from the weather gods. Let's hope this hurricane doesn't take Mr. Croshaw, aswell as anyone else from Downunder, to the merry old land of Oz.

That would cause a rip in the fabric of space. That having been said, it still would be cool to see.

OT: I'm not going to bother reposting it but that jellyfish from earlier in the post scared the hell out of me. I hope the peoples of my favorite island nation are ok so they can get back to dealing with the wildlife instead.

So screw the rest of our State then? Nice dude...

Anyways, so you know, he doesn't live where it's hitting, he's only about an hour away from me. My thoughts are with the citizens to the north.

Well, of course, I'm fairly certain Darwin was rebuilt with a bit more thought to the building code, but some of the constructions still don't look that strong even today.

However, I will concede that with better construction techniques, there's probably less damage. Which is just as well, because something like this levelling a large town isn't such a fun thought.

Yahtezz will be fine, Brisbane wasn't in Yasi's path and even if it was, it wouldn't rcive that much damage unless the Yasi's Eye wasn't though.

first floods, now Anthony and Yasi, i think with mother nature of the Elementals are telling everyone in Queensland to get lost and out of the state, i live south-west Victoria, while Yasi was blowing crap away, we was in bloody hot weather, it's been raining hard but the humidity is making things hot and sticky (not to mention C.C won't boot up today), Yahtzee is lucky to have the wet weather, it's nice and cool

still, on the subject of cyclones, Yasi may not be the last, summer's not finished and don't cyclones normally come in during winter?, then again i don't know much about the weather apart from the fact it's stopping my family having a garage sale and me making money to get SwapMagic and .Hack//G.U

I'm surprised that Yahtzee has be able to survive this long.
Great image, could I please have the website because that is just so perfect and funny. According to my sister we have a part of the cyclone hitting us down in Victoria, I've got to say, I have never felt my house shake so much. Although I'm sure Yahtzee is okay, isn't it a bit unfair to just wish one individual the best because he makes you laugh about games? How about all of Australia or maybe just Queensland.

PS: Stuff Silent Hill and Amnesia: The Dark Decent, we need a freaking survival horror about the mutated Australian out back at night. We already have 3 foot long, glow in the dark, blue Earth Worms, just make them larger and we will already have a terrifying game experience.

He is based in my town of brisbane so he will be fine, Yasi only effected north queensland towns like Cairns and Cooktown. the worst thing he has to worry about is hot and record breakingly humid wheather.

It's not pronounced exactly like Yahtzee. Yasi...say it with me, Yar-sea...YAR-SEA.
Surely it's closer to "Yazzie"?
Belive me, it's Yar-sea.
But I don't see an 'r' ANYWHERE...
There is a 'b' in plumber and we don't say that. You have to trust me, you say it 'Yar-sea'
YARRR-SEA... hmmm... wouldnt pirates just say sea? I don't think that what they sea 99.99% of the time would warrant a yarrr
Edit: That pun actually was unintentional. damn misspelling
It's pronounced like the dice game Yahtzee. That is to say, YAT-ZEE.
