Infinite Undiscovery for the fail. If you're going to make up words, at least make it relevant to the story.
This applies to many jrpgs 'dirge of cerebus' wtf
Actually, that one does make some sense. Cerberus is his gun and dirge is a hymn, usually to the dead.
Nah, it's more like 'death song of my gun'.

you make a good point, but wouldn't you know it was a final fantasy game anyway, even if they did change the name a bit? authors dont just add numbers on to the end of novel titles when they write sequals, so why should games have to?
I like to have my games on my shelf in order. The numbers help that by miles. And I would actually prefer novel writers to have numbers. Not only numbers, but always numbers.
personal taste I guess. I just thought it would be a funny pun.

Dirge
noun
1. A funeral song or tune, or one expressing mourning in commemoration of the dead.
2. Any composition resembling such a song or tune in character, as a poem of lament for the dead or solemn, mournful music: Tennyson's dirge for the Duke of Wellington.
3. A mournful sound resembling a dirge: The autumn wind sang the dirge of summer.
4. Ecclesiastical. the office of the dead, or the funeral service as sung.

And then Cerberus is the name of Vincent's gun, so the title is actually quite fitting considering the story. Though a better title probably would've been Dirge of Vincent Valentine.

I like the name Canis Canem Edit, but renaming it "Bully" was a bit... lame I guess...

Final Fantasy, because we've all pretty much gathered by now that it's a complete and utter LIE...
From what I've managed to find, the first game was supposed to be the final game for one of the Square-Enix developers before he retired/resigned/etc. But it sold so well and was so popular that they made another and another and another...and another.

Mass Effect for the fail. Mass effecting what?
I have to admit I'm quite pissed at the mo. I was going to explain it but decided to wiki it instead

"Inside the game universe, mass effect is a newly discovered (for humans anyway) physics phenomenon that has properties along the lines of other physics forces such as gravity and electromagnetism. It?s what physicists in real life are currently calling "dark energy", as an explanation for the accelerating expansion of the universe ? which has only recently been discovered and flies in the face of the previous notion that the universe?s expansion should be slowing down because of gravity"

Edit: believe it's also explained at the beginning of the game

AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! A Reckless Disregard for Gravity
A bunch of people seem to think that's one of the worst, but I like it. Fairly fun game, too.

I think I'll vote for "Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden" as simultaneously both best and worst, and the game itself is about a hojillion times sillier (and awesome).

Worst: I Wanna Be The Guy

Ok seriously what the fuck? I have never heard of this game and so many people here refer to it ever now and then, what kind of a retarded title is that!? When I first read it I honestly thought someone was making it up.

Best: Most of the Castlevnia games have awesome subnames:

Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow, Lament of Innocence, Curse of Darkness, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia, Harmony of Dissonance, Circle of the Moon

and many more.

Either those or Prototype, I dunno but I really like the word so I like that title a lot.

"Rocky Rodent"

But I do remember having unreasonable amounts of fun playing that game.

Not originally. Square-Soft were doing pretty bad in the video game market back then and Final Fantasy was supposed to be the last game they made, hence the name, but it was so successful that they kept making more and just ran with the title.

My favourite titles are Final Fantasy (it rolls of the tongue so nicely), Halo, Prototype and Assassins Creed.

Penumbra, is one of my favourite game names of all time. The game itself is an adventure/horror game that takes place on Greenland in 2000, where you have to go investigate/escape a science-complex filled with monsters and horribly disfigured humans. It has a great emphasis on stealth which is why I think penumbra is a good name, since you stick to the shadows as you have no way of fighting the enemies.

Definition; The penumbra (from the Latin paenes "almost, nearly" and umbra "shadow") is the region in which only a portion of the occulting body is obscuring the light source. An observer in the penumbra experiences a partial eclipse.

An alternative definition is that the penumbra is the region where some or all of the light source is obscured (i.e., the umbra is a subset of the penumbra). For example, NASA's Navigation and Ancillary Information Facility defines that a body in the umbra is also in the penumbra.

Example of umbra, penumbra and antumbra outside astronomy:

Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within. I just always thought that some really inspirational speech could have been given, something like..... "Prince, you can do it. Find the Warrior Within, save the world," or something really cliched like that. Obviously, like the rest of the world, I feel that Sands of Time was superior. But I always liked the title, Warrior Within.
