All of them suck.
The one between Dart and Shana in LOD.
The most cliché style of love story, the awkward teenager style.

Overlord + His Minions/Gnarl for the best love story.
"Giblet, wake up, there's forging to be done! Heehee"

Worst I'd have to agree with Masterchef and Cortana.
Or possibly Alyx/Gordan Freeman even though it's not truly existent seeing as Gordon's MUTE!
What he said.
Overlord was such fun playing.

WHY, oh WHY have no one mentioned Baldur's Gate II?!

That game had the most excellent Love story subplots in any game to date. And the game was just EPIC WIN overall as well.
Seriously, play it. Now.

Also Mass Effect had a pretty good love story, but that's mainly because I liked the characters. Also, Alien Space Babes are HAWT!
You beat me to it...:) Agreed on all points, except maybe that I don't like the Aerie (Yes, there is girl with a name like that in BG2 as well!) romance all that much. Jaheira, Viconia and even Anomen more than makes up for it though.
[snip]
I actually like Aerie, though I had trouble with Jaheira I dunno why really, she just annoys me.
Viconia and Anomen were very good though.

Well Cortana wasn't so much as a love interest as a good friend, and Alyx/Mr Freeman isn't bad considering he's a mute. (although he'll probably say something in the last Half-Life.)

My favortie is probly be Revan and whoever you liked from KoToR.

The worst would have to be any in final fantasy I have only played a few of them but they are all terrible.
I was pretty disappointed that Mission Vao wasn't a Love interest. She was one of the characters I liked best.
Ya me too she was awsome but the problem is she was only like 14 or something like so it would be a little weird

No, jk
Actually, I liked Locke falling in love with every girl he rescued because he was fixated on his amnesiac girlfriend, from the same game
Begone, pedophilia! I love how he actually debates if he should hit on her or not.

Well when I first played KoTOR I was around that age so it wasn't weird then.
Although I don't think it would be weird now either as I'm almost 18 (an age difference of 4 years isn't that much).
And she definitely doesn't look fourteen...

Best: Fei/Elhaym in XenoGears. Not only do the characters have to go through the difficulties of a mixed culture relationship and the problems that come from being part of opposing nations in wartime but they have to do so in various lifetimes, the whole time pondering the nature of their love. Is it just out of conveniece sake or is there some deeper connection?
Worst: That's a tough call. Most video game relationships are incredibly simplistic and childish, so I suppose that I will have to rely upon an equally simplistic means of selecting a 'worst romance'--hype backlash.
That would be Final Fantasy 8's romance between the leads Squall and Rinoa (or whatever you wanted to name the couple). If it had been a satire of young love such as Romeo and Juliet (on of the things which made Shakespeare's rendition of Pyramus and Thibe stand tall amongst all of the other remakes)or went over the different forms of love as understood by an immature mind, it may have been more bearable. This game had Love as its much written about overarching theme but it seemed more like an afterthought in a generally poorly thought out plot.

Ya I know I was too but this game wasnt made by 14 year olds either so they probly saw it as wierd or creepy or something but I do wish they had let us have some relationship with her.

Hmmm, I would say that the best would be that between the prince and Farah in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
They were the best couple.

The worst would probably be any Sonic game relationship.

Yeah, true.
But then again, younger-older relationships have been taken up successfully in a lot of books and movies. So with the skill that the Bioware crew possess, I have no doubt that they could've written a good love sub-plot.
I do believe they avoided it because of the media however. Just look at all the fuss Mass Effect made.

Seriously, when will the world get past that games aren't that different from movies, books or whatever other medium there is for telling a story?

Emil and Marta from tales of symphonia 2. I could find cheerleaders in California with more character within five minutes than those two....creatures.

Yeah, I liked the Farah/Prince and Elika/Prince relationships. I thought Mass Effect did it pretty well too, in that you had control over building the relationship (and could screw it up. Just like all of the ones I've ever been in!)

Although I liked the game a lot, I thought Fable 2's courtship system was kind of lame, as I formed no emotional attachment to my wife/husband. I had no attachment to them. Although my dog was really the only character I gave a crap about in the whole game, so that was the only reason I had to debate which ending I was going to choose. I still went with the money, but I felt kind of bad about it.

GTA 4's was similar, but I liked that your dates were at least characters, and that Nico's conversations with them could be funny and interesting. I liked how he would challenge Kiki's liberal guilt.

Well Tali wasn't my favourite character, but I did like her.
They probably didn't since she can't be outside her suit unless it's a perfectly sterile environment, which would complicate things quite a lot. But yeah, I noticed that too.

I'm so psyched about ME2, I'm gonna have a fit soon.

Well, Aeris/Aerith from FFVII has a quite similar name and is frequently mentioned on most desirable gaming romantic interest lists:)

And both are similar in being vulnerable magic users best suited for healing. The problem I had with Aerie is
that she is FAR too immature and self-pitying, to the point of "Ooh I really really love you and I want to sleep you"---"but if I do I will regret it and think we are going too fast and never ever speak with you again at least until the expansion where I might want to get it on if you didn't do WHAT *I* ASKED FOR when I asked the first time and then I will become pregnant on the first try and go through the entire thing in two weeks and have a baby that will take up one inventory slot and which I will assure you won't be hurt by the final battle because of being wrapped up in my magic cloak while I fight"
Actually, hers might be one of my least favorite romances ever now that I think about it.:)

Best, albeit depressing love story for me would be James and Mary during Silent Hill 2. Mary's letter at the end always brings a tear to my eyes.

Worst love story would be Leon and Ada, because I've been a Claire/Leon shipper since I first picked up Resident Evil 2.

Yeah probably the final fantasies. Like ff7 and ff10.

Either that or Sims 2 (sounds weird, but it's true)

Mm, I was ticked about that too. I liked her personality and voice the most. Mmm... *melts*

Anyway, I'd say one of the best ones is the one between Meryl and Snake, though the one with Eve has its specific charm too. I'm a sucker for love sprung up in the middle of warfare. *coughFullMetalPaniccough*
Another good one is the one between the female Commander Shepard and Lieutenant Alenko. I love that guy. He's a romantic, just like me, and such a nice guy. He's really interesting too, and I thought the conversations were actually well done. Maybe a bit one-sided naturally, but Shepard isn't very much for talking. Everyone seems to hate the female voice too. I frickin' loved it. Sooo sexy... *shivers*

Hrm. Worst? Probably Ashley and Leon in RE4. I mean, it could have been awesome, but it's just pathetic. On that note, him and Ada Wong have a pretty interesting history. Mmm... Ada... Okay, I'm getting too distracted by this thread and will now leave you with that. Love you all.
