What is the best writing you've ever heard in a game? Mine would have to be, from of course Bioshock:
"I am Andrew Ryan, and I'm here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'It belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'It belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'It belongs to everyone.' I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose...Rapture, a city where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, where the great would not be constrained by the small! And with the sweat of your brow, Rapture can become your city, as well."
Post yours below! Thanks! :)

I found Dragon Age on the whole to be very well written. Each character was given depth and their own unique personality and motives.

It was my first BioWare game, and I was thoroughly impressed.

Super Paper Mario. The characters and their back stories are amazingly well written each character minus Mario, Bowser and Peach have a reason to be in the game.

BioShock and Dragon Age Origins were written very well, but I would also like to say Left 4 Dead 1/2. For a game with hardly any story at all, the writing was surprisingly good. It was funny and the voice acting was really well done.

I would say that it would have to be Chrono Trigger for me. Even on several replays, I still find myself becoming emotionally involved in the dialog, which only very occasionally dips into narm territory. But even the narm has a certain timeless quality to it.

Every line GLaDOS said was pure gold.

"The enrichment center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak....in the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the enrichment center urges you to disregard its advice"

That's wierd from my perspective because every time I get on gametrailers.com and watch a video it has a short advertisement for the new DLC, and it had a few really cheesy lines.

Like... "I rather miss the whole dark spawn killing thing!" in a psuedo-masculine voice. Is this a relatively isolated incident, or am I taking that out of context?

The whole game is one big cliche, full of the typical Bioware characters. No need to prove anything.

Final Fantasy VI leaps IMMEDIATELY to mind. Time was, JRPGs didn't have ZOMG THREE DEE! graphics and had to rely on their writing to make their mark. Not for nothing are FF4, FF6, and Chrono Trigger three of the best games ever made (and this coming from an acknowledged JRPG hater). Their writing are gold, silver, and bronze in the Writing Olympics.

I am currently enjoying playing The Witcher, which has some incredibly cool dialogue. I only found out about it through the sequel which was announced recently and it is really one of the best RPG's I have played. Yeah I love it :p

Half Life 2 was written very well even though there isn't much of a story-line. Dr. Breen's speeches were great and added to the dystopic environment.

*Dons my KH fanboy hat and my custom made keyblade*

I'd have to say the Kingdom Hearts series for me. With the basis the writers were given for the story (See Final Fantasy + Disney = OMGWTFISTHESHIT) I think they made a fairly intriguing and thought-provoking story. I actually cared about the characters in the story, even with there numerous zippers trying to cover every inch of there bodies. (If you've played KH I you've got to admit Sora looks jump-in-cement-mixer retarded.) Sub-plots actually contributed to the game or at least made sense to the overall plot. And you get a feeling that the actions you put into the game actually change and shape the story around you. (Or at least as much as you can feel this way in a hack'n'slash jrpg.)

Forgot to mention. As much as I love the series. Those ugly ass clothes they wear aren't going near my memorabilia collection.

Team Fortress 2.

For a game that has no singleplayer, each class is surprisingly fleshed out, albeit stereotypical.

"May I borrow your earpiece? 'This is scout! Rainbows make me cry!'"

Hehehe...rainbows...

The Ace Attorney Series has always had great writing.More due to necessity than anything because with out it the game would be shit.

Shamgarr, that's Alistair, and believe me that's pretty classic for him. His character is a dork (albeit a lovable one :) ).

Traun, as I said, it's my first BioWare game. But DAO and Uncharted (another game with great writing) are the only two games I've played where my husband (a film student with a focus on Writing/Directing) wasn't rolling his eyes and actually gave quite a few props to.

I don't have a lot of experience with a lot of more "adult" games as most of my gaming life has been Nintendo based, and only over the last couple years have I been able to really start branching out. (I'm also very limited on time, being a full-time student, married, and mother of two) so my game collection is admittedly small, and my budget for games (both time and money) is woefully limited.
