I also liked Bioshock, which had the caliber of a really good novel (intricate story, lots of complex characters, original plot with meaning) although the ending came up short.

Stranglehold (Chow Yun-Fat = awesome)
Saints Row 2 (Script was well written, characters were evil but oddly likable, story tied those aspects together very well)

Viking had promise, but the gameplay was a gigantic turd so fuck those guys...

I thing KotOR's story is great.
It has great characters, a great plot, and an amazing twist that you can't see coming.
What more could you want.

I think that's due in part that it's heavily based on a novel. =P It's still one of the best reasons to own a PS3 or 360.

I do agree that Final Fantasy Tactics has an absolutely fantastic story, and the War of the Lions rerelease does quite a bit to fix a lot of the translation oddities in the original version.

I'll probably catch some flak for this, but I have to mention Secret of Mana, if only for the great memories from my childhood.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 has a great story just for the fact that LOVELESS was a great parallel to the story. That and the characterization was great.

MGS was awesome, agreed. Some people also mentioned Fallout 3, Silent Hill 2, and BioShock. I have to say I also really liked PSO. And I know what you're thinking: PSO had NO story and was all online. How can you mention it here? Well, I like the games ability to allow you to make your own story. You can figure out what happened on Ragol as you go, and all of the locations you explore tell a little more about what happened. In the end, the story was something you made your own and I enjoy that.

Dead Space I think also breathed some new life into Survival Horror and the plot was new and interesting to me.

*clears throat*....yes. I did not get annoyed by it at all since I felt it fit the scenario, and the character. Honestly if I can read through things like Shakespeare and enjoy it, LOVELESS was a fun little piece of writing.

I think I remember my cousin playing this one time, not sure.

But I would have to say Warcraft 3, I don't know why, it's just good.

I really enjoyed Mass Effect, it gave some nice twists and turns. KOTOR Rocked too.

I love BioWare's games in general.
