He sells. He'll keep going. And eventually they'll give us the 2D we keep asking for. It'll sell and they'll fuck it up all over again.

He'll be with us until all the small children and all the fanboys disappear. Those are the only people buying anyway.

As long as he keeps selling, there'll be games with him in...

As a long time Sonic fan, I won't be buying a new one until they put it back in 2D.

He'll keep selling for the same reason anything sells, because it's popular.

And the series isn't that bad. The only one that seems universally loathed is 06. Yes, even Shadow has fans.

Alot longer while the sonic team is still alive and they have fountains of money spilling out of god knows where they will continue to perform CPR on the little rodent until he gives up his final breath many many years from now.

He's dead, yes... but if you run a current through him, his legs spin. Seems that's enough to keep releasing games.

He's immortal. Which is sad. His prime is long gone, yet he's still around. He is an eternal figurehead of the gaming world, it's just too bad that he's stuck leading the shit games.

Sonic will never die providing sonic team continue to make games, true the series hit its peak over a decade ago but for every adult gamer to leave the franchise a kid takes their place. I don't want to annoy fans but it is important to remeber that the Sonic franchise was directed at kids in the first place, and it still is; they gave up trying to meet the expectations of their original fan base years ago.

So any way back to the topic, yes Sonic is dead but only to his original fans, to children its just another franchise that keeps on giving and will continue to do so until Sonic team decide to put the franchise to rest.

But with this circle of releases sonic has come to no longer be sonic, ask a kid of the new brain dead generation what sonic really is , what he was always capable of and they'll have no idea. With the new game comes the mutation, from this super fast blue hedgehog with a hot head and few brains to this stone idol who stands and does the bidding of anyone with the highest bid

Good ideas only last so long. I haven't played any of the Sonic games at the zenith of his career, so I can't really say how good an idea Sonic was. Either way, he's stayed far longer than he was meant. Many ideas are milked until past dry because they are overwhelmingly popular - but developers need to know when to stop, or even restart.

Sonic's been around for nearly 18 years now, and because every Sonic game that comes out sells millions of copies in spite of terrible reviews, I think it's a pretty safe bet that he isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

He might be dead to hardcore gamers, but they aren't really his market anymore. Sonic's in it for the money, and in this economy, I honestly can't blame him.

Like the Black Plague, Sonic will threaten to come back every couple of years. Maybe if we started paying Nintendo NOT to release any more games. I could go for that.

Another question: what does Nintendo's big-shots think when they see their fans mass exodus away from them? Do they think, "they'll be back, we've got Sonic and Zelda and Mario and Metroid and Pikmin and Star Fox and..."?

You know what? I call Nintendo itself dead. Maybe Sega is going to pull a ninja move on us and use Nintendo to leapfrog themselves back to popularity. I wonder if they've learned any lessons from their epic loss in the gaming wars?

Sure he may survive for another ten years, however take into consideration Mega Man. Once they attempted to adventure into that whole NT Warrior television series Mega Man went down hill. Maybe it was a couple of dollars and only a percentage of the enormous fan base, but it still had a large impact on Mega Man in general. After the small craze provoked by the "new" Mega Man it began to shrivel and die because, it no longer was the Mega Man it used to be. By stepping away from the so called "roots" these sort of games lose what makes them sell. So if they continue to approach Sonic with traces of the original story and attitude they're bound to survive another 10 years or so. Even Pokemon has survived with the same story for every single game. Just slap a new shiny label on the same game and it's going to sell! Add another bad guy here and there then you'll got yourself money. It's depressing really how these classics are being exploited into crap, yet still sell. It's been a long time since old school Sega. :(

He'll survive, but he'll get crappier and crappier. It's quantity not quality in the world of today!

Sonic still has an extensive fan base, so I doubt it'll diminish any time soon. Plus, Sonic Unleashed and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games were two of Sega's top 3 selling games in the last fiscal year, so I doubt there's any reason to quit on him. And in reality while the quality of the games is undoubtably lower than the originals a lot of the criticism is exaggerated; the only one's that are universally awful are Shadow, Sonic 06 and to an extent Black Knight. I don't defend the direction the series has taken, but I'm quite optimistic it'll improve at some point in the future considering that it's so important to Sega that they must do something to keep it going for their own good.
