What happened? I bought Battlefield Bad Company 2 expecting a rip roaring good time... I was just setting myself up for heartbreak.

I LOVED the first game... The single player wasn't too amazing, but the voice acting and off-beat "wartime inappropriate" humor made it all worth the grind.

The multi-player on the original blew my mind... I never owned it, but I rented the game over and over again because that itch to snipe someone the size of an ant came back. Now the thing is so misshapen and unbalanced that it's impossible to play the way I want to play, and that's the fastest turn off for me in a game... (Exactly why most RPGs will never be beaten by me.) Pick up assault class; die in first 30 seconds. Pick up engineer and you'll make it 15 seconds. Try to snipe and you're dead when your feet touch the sand. The only way to get any kills is to be the Necromancer Bullet Hose, or as everyone else calls them The Medic.

And about the vehicles... Well... Actually... I love them all just as much as the first go... Except there's this thing that spews fire outta both its heads... And it's belly is more armored than Smaug. It's the BlackHawk... It'll ruin your-... Your teams* day fast.

Is it just me? Different strokes for different folks? Anyone else out there able to do what I cannot and play as something OTHER than a medic? Anyone share my opinion for one reason or another?

(Searched. Couldn't find anything other than NEWS on BF BC 2.)

WTF?! There is no OP to this topic?

Edit: AHH...its there now.

OT, rush less?

Dying THAT fast on big ass maps like these usually means you are rushing.

I suck at medic.

I prefer to play pretty much anything aside from medic, honestly.

I play as either engineer or assault. I didn't really think the blackhawk was that bad. I figure the AT4, my next unlock, will render it ineffective. I've taken a few out with the Carl Gustav, because of terrible pilots, and the assault boat's grenade launcher works perfectly on them. However not having stopping power, or magnum ammunition, is a major pain.

I find I can play as anything I want really and still be pretty good, because I play with my mates in a team.

The Big problem your likely having is that your going it alone and really you need a team to get things done. My big gripe with BC2 is the fact that far too many times on Rush mode you will be the attackers and always you will see about 4-7 snipers, half a mile away, doing nothing, not killing anyone, not even tagging people. I wouldn't be surprized if I made the 2 mile hike from the front line to them to find their all playing cards for all the good they do. Seriously, next time you see a bunch of snipers go consult the leaderboards, more often then not they will be right near the bottom.

In fairness to the game, me only problems are about the people that play it, i.e. people out for themselves rather than the team. I mean, they are entitled to that but still I do get annoyed when I see a someone take a chopper just to plow it into the ground near the enemy base because it gets them their faster.

Oddly enough, I had the opposite situation. I'd always die after running a few feet in Bad Company 1, but I have a much better time in 2. I'd go so far as to say that I kick a goodly share of ass, and I don't use the medic that often. I mean, I've unlocked all the class items, so....

The only issues I've had have been with mortar strikes (retarded OP) apaches (rediculously difficult to shoot down) and server issues (I'm australian - woe is me).

Well I have no problem with it, at least now after playing for a while. When I first got the Demo I didn't like any of the changes one bit, but then I rented the game and was able to play the single player campaign to get the ropes and now I absolutly Love it. It had the scale and graphics to finaly pull me away from MAG.

Yeah, I was shocked to not find anything...

The only rushing I do is through buildings / heavy vegetation growth. I normally won't get cut down running... It's when I peek around a corner and a LMG cuts me into shreds that I die the most.

My CoD sniper training taught me to ALWAYS use cover, and NEVER make fast jerky movements when you're exposed.

Yeah, those "mortar strikes" are more like carpet bombing runs... The MS in the original was much more tame.

Actually I get pretty lucky shots with the RPG. I've even SNIPED a pilot once (I LOVE sniping people while they pilot some vehicle). The pain is in switching to a class that's nothing but rocket kills and CQB to do it...

Funny that people call the mortar strikes op. I've found them to be much worse than C4, and fairly easy to dodge.

I really like BC2 myself. Good simple fun.

I've noticed how you place emphasis on killing and not about teamwork. Which is probably why the game "let you down."

It sounds to me like you're whining about approaching the game with a very narrow view, that of which you were accustomed to in BC1, and not actually LEARNING the game.

I don't have much of the same problems as you.

Then again I've been played basically every game in the franchise, from 1942 to Bad Company 2, and everything in-between, so either it does happen to me but I'm just used to it, or my playing all the games a lot caused me to be able to overcome all of this.

I can play as any class and do relatively well.

The Blackhawks I find are usually easy to shoot down. When they're going fast they can't maneuver much, so you can track the tragectory and shoot where the thing is going to be. But when they're standing still you need to hope they can't see you, since they can go up, down, side to side relatively quickly.

Pretty much what I'm saying is that with practice, Blackhawks aren't that dangerous, and if worst comes to worst, you can always use a stationary MG.

I have had problems shooting down Apache helo's though, damn things are a pain in my ass...

And as for your infantry woes, not sure what to say. You did mention you played COD, and how you played in that game could be a bad choice in this game. You may not need to change outright, but maybe just adjust it a bit.

But you did say you played the first so that might not be the case...

I found Battlefield Bad Company 2 to be alright. I never played the multiplayer but the single player was good and the game-play was pretty nice too, except for all the dust.

One thing that really irked me is that there is never any mention of what happened in the first game. What happened to all that gold they found? That is a massive plot hole. Plus, why is Russia invading at the end of the game? There is no need for it.

Playing with your Squad is key in BC2, get a good squad that will stick together and you guys will rule the entire game.
