you dont think that a power rangers style christian superhero with boots of truth is a bit messed up?
the little kids dancing is quite funny though
Secondly, the show wasn't made with jaded, cynical young adults as the target audience. I think most of the "newer" cartoons are absolutely bonkers. I can't stand most of the crap out there that my kids watch right now, but am I going to say that all cartoonists are crazy? No, because there's still some good cartoons out there. I'll instead say "those cartoonists are nuts."
My point was: [HEADING=3]Don't generalize[/HEADING]
and it seems you do aswellBorrowed Time said:jaded, cynical young adults

They call it the "Armor of God", and those armor piece names are as they are in the Bible.
They didn't say "Oh, look at what Christians believe, let's name the armor parts like that."
No, those armor names are directly quoted from the Bible on how to be a better person.
I had church six times a week from birth until I started University...kudos to those who are Christian...but I am just tramatisedCDog2910 said:it's not that traumatizing my cousins do fine and they have to do that crap every other Sunday.bluepilot said:After going to Church for most of my life and having the Bible preached at me from every angle with every gimmick, things like this make me want to lock myself in my room with a bottle of vodka and two packs of ciggarettes.
Even `away in an manger` makes me break out in a cold sweat...You cannot imagine the horrors the HORRORS that they made me do in church when I was a kid. Those happy-clappy kids remind me of all the happy clappy things I was forced to do as a kid in church in the name of `good old fashioned pure family fun`
Things like this are truly tramatising. It is a gimmick, a gimmick, a gimmick indeed.
Reminds me of the time when I was six, I had to colour in a picture of Jesus, and being rather fond of black at the time, I coloured Jesus in black. I got into so much trouble for reasons that I did not understand until many years later...my, how times have changed.

I, personally, do not BELIEVE that there is no God. Based on every, single bit of scientific evidence that I have come across for or to the contrary, I KNOW at this point that there is no God.
Whatever it takes.
I mean, it comes in a biodegradable wrapper, fits perfectly in your hand, and has an ez-open top already installed. OBVIOUSLY a jesusmade? product.
If thats not suitable scientific evidence, well, then i guess nothing is!

That's it. Either you're just being tongue-in-cheek with me, or you have the most messed up terminology surrounding belief systems I've ever heard. Either way, it's your problem. I'll just agree to disagree at this point.The_root_of_all_evil said:-snip-

Not a backhand, or intended as one, I'm sorry. It's just a serious worry. I've never seen terminology that mixed. Calling Buddhism "secular atheism" is an odd way of speaking. Yes, they don't believe in a God, but they're still a religion, since they believe in other spiritual things - some of the branches even have a Heaven, a Hell, and many believe in a soul. Atheists, as the word overarchingly implies, do not believe in the spiritual world at all, not just in there not being a God. You can't be an atheist and then say you have a soul (except if you're making some odd poetic point about the "heart", which is also just a metaphor).The_root_of_all_evil said:Gee, thanks for the backhand.Silva said:That's it. And people wonder why I don't get on with atheism.
Ok, that's cool. It just felt a little of dismissal.Silva said:Anyway. We probably agree in the realm of ideas. Your way of communicating is just very, very different. So let's quit at this point.
Yes, well, I suppose they're just frightened about how much influence religion has in the world.The_root_of_all_evil said:It's all to do with what "bumf" you pass into religion, and also atheism. At it's core, they're both beliefs in whether God exists, and that's how I treat them. But I understand how people differ. I just find it galling when Atheism means "I am a religious troll".Silva said:Anyway. We probably agree in the realm of ideas. Your way of communicating is just very, very different. Oh good gracious. Hah. My first thought is that it's a horrible idea.Be interested to know on what you think of Dawkin's summer camps though![]()
I'd be much more frightened of the effect of scientific concepts like "planned obsolescence", "global killers" or "gene bombs".Silva said:Yes, well, I suppose they're just frightened about how much influence religion has in the world.

As for Bibleman, sorry, I watched the first one and just...too corny. The ending? Urgh. That's just terrible. Seriously.
The person has no hair (no belief), but I think it would still make sense to classify "bald" as a hairstyle.
So would I. Religion's great influence on the world might lead to that misuse of science on a greater scale, however. The thought of Iran's current government; its extremism and its aggressive stance towards nations like the US, comes into my mind here. Of course, scientists motivated by their belief in God to be ethical in their approaches are also numerous. It is very much a fight between them right now, with the side of that influence becoming dominant as the prize. Hopefully, more methods that get the same result without the horrible implications, like the recent cultivation of stem cells without the need for human donation. That could tip the scale in the right direction.The_root_of_all_evil said:I'd be much more frightened of the effect of scientific concepts like "planned obsolescence", "global killers" or "gene bombs".
The NSA would be lucky to have any control or power to stop it, considering the direction the world's going. China keeps being predicted as the next world superpower, above the US in power and richness, and meanwhile missile defense technology is still very inaccurate. NORAD would not be so helpful, especially if an attack comes from within, considering how little they could do on 9/11.When the Great Flood happened, at least there were people to gather up enough to keep the world going. When the Great War happens, Noah will be replaced by NORAD. And would you trust the NSA to count in the chromosomes, two by two?
:sigh: Are we really going to go here? "jaded, cynical young adults" isn't saying that all young adults are jaded or cynical, they were descriptions. Saying that "all christians are bat shit crazy" is about the same as saying "all libertarians are bat shit crazy" or "all police officers are bat shit crazy". I by no means said "all young adults are jaded and cynical." All I was stating was that you should have added the word "those" in your sentence. Learning a little bit of tact will get you a long way in life. Try to learn some now.
BTW, I think I saw some guy jump in front of a bus on one of those "Most Daring" shows recently. Maybe because he did it you should go try it! It might be fun! (Disclaimer: by no means should you try to do this as you will most likely die from blunt force trauma. This was a statement that was said to prove a point that you should never base what you're doing in life on what the "rest of people" are doing. Live and think for yourself.)
Tact is for people that actually want to find work. Tact is for people who have to deal with individuals on a day to day basis. Tact is for people who aren't hiding behind the anonymity of the internet and have an ounce of compassion for someone other then themselves in this world. (do not confuse tact with PC) Anyway, I see that constructive debate is lost on you. Good day sir and I hope that you don't have to go through too many trials to learn life's lessons.c0rtha said:tact is for people who dont wanna piss of other people
look i could easily proove that all christians are bat shit crazy, but that would however spark an argument, that would never end and turn this thread into something it wasnt meant to be
plus i really cbf having scripture passages thrown at me
