They don't have to do that anymore. If the vote doesn't get to 60, I don't even know if an actual filibuster is even declared anymore or if it's just "assumed" that it's being filibustered. But either way, no one has to actually do work to do a filibuster, it just happens
Any senator can file a notice of filibuster by email to stop the vote on cloture to even discuss and vote on something.

From what I’ve read, they won’t be penalized for calling in sick anymore. They won’t get paid when they call in, but they won’t get in trouble for doing so either.

It’s not the best situation but it’s not the worst.

And Biden has said he’s going to keep pushing to get them paid sick leave.

Ehhhh.... sounds hollow to me. Doesn't have to be official for your boss to give you the third degree for not coming in.

Your boss can give you shit for calling in even with paid sick leave. If they want to they can find a reason to write you up no matter what.

I don't even get that. Why would any business anywhere pay you for NOT showing up and doing work? If you call in sick and thus don't work, you don't do anything to deserve to get paid so you get paid. It's simply doesn't make sense.

Sick leave is a form of PTO/vacation time. Some companies roll your sick leave and PTO into one pool, others give you PTO and a much lesser amount of sick leave.

It's in a business's best interests to not have you show up and get other people sick/suffer poor performance if you're sick.

Biden has said a great many things.
Can I safely assume you believe Biden is lying about the paid sick leave? Or do you think he won’t be able to deliver?

If you think he is lying, can you name a politician that you feel has never lied (including by omission), misrepresented, over-promised or under-delivered?

Yes, but why wouldn't they simply not pay you for the day you didn't show up? It doesn't mean they fire you for being sick or taking sick days so long as you don't do it excessively, it just means they don't pay you for that particular day.

Lying, yes.

No, but that doesn't make it seem less likely that he's lying.

More seriously, "but mum, all the other kids/PotUS were doing it" isn't a defense.

In Biden's case, he's lying (or seems to be) about a particularly important issue in a particularly blatant way. He's made several lies like that before and they've hurt his party. Now, I don't for a moment believe that he's actually trying to make the GOP win, but I can sorta understand why people make that claim. The lower classes of the US aren't doing well, and he needs their support, and he's not giving them much in the way of reasons to support him.

If you're a low paid worker with bills to pay, and you need the money, you'd be forced to come to work sick. This bit people hard during the earlier stages of covid, and it's not a good thing in any case.

Rent is absolutely crushing low income workers atm. It's costing people up to 80% of their takehome pay to keep a roof over their heads.

Cleaners and Aged Care Workers being the most common around these parts.

This is all starting to sound a bit "why don't the unemployed get jobs?"...

Because it was one of those conditions hard won with blood, sweat and tears by our great grandfather’s generation in order to ensure people are not penalised for being sick. Or children for being sick and requiring care by a parent.

Plus a single day - which is usually all most people need to get over the worst of the vast majority of run of the mill sicknesses - of wages is generally a lot less of a loss than the potential loss of a large section of a work area’s labor if someone who is sick comes to work and infects their colleagues. And this is not an open lather either; everywhere I have ever worked will allow only a single day in a week without a proof from a doctor or other medical professional that you are indeed sick. And if that sick day was a Monday or Friday, you needed the cert regardless.

Another way to look at it is a benefit in place of raw cash: paid days off for illness recovery, care of children or relatives who are ill, in exchange for a reduction in overall wage.
