Can you play as Big Daddy? Because that would be sweet. Obviously it's a cheap thrill that would wear off, but having drills for arms and chucking radioactive little girls at interfering scientists who have hands that shoot bees would be rather...delicious.
Couldn't have said it better myself.

I feel like Bioshock wasn't the kind of game that required a sequel, so I think making a sequel is a mistake

And no, you cannot play as a Big Daddy yet (unless you count that disappointing level where you "become" a Big Daddy, that was terrible) but the main character of Bioshock 2 is a Big Daddy (the first)

Well that depends, will I be in a rockabilly band and get the obligatory Gretsch hollow-body? [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_sH04aRcGk]

Seriously, though, I think it's a unique idea and if done right it can deliver. I also am afraid that the gimmick would wear off quicker than you'd think.

Well the dual wielding of plasmids and guns looks good but I'm not sure if it is a good idea to actually build a sequel on something like this

Sure, why not? It might change the gameplay up just enough to where it's not the same game all over again. I'll give it a shot.

Supposedly you will in Bioshock 2

Prequel would have been better.
...It is a prequel.

Generally sequels are a bad idea, but I think they built this sequel to act more like a prequel in the sense that it will explain a lot of what happened in the past with how the big daddies were created.
If not, then I hope the sequel doesn't screw up the big daddy concept. Really, they probably created this main character because they felt that they needed a new one for the sequel. The best writers would plan these things ahead, but seeing the popularity of the big daddy may have somehow influenced their decision in some way. Just saying...maaaaaaay end badly in a storyline-type concept. The weapons sound fun, though!

Unfortunately it isnt. It is happening 10 years after the original

I am cautiously optimistic. At first I screamed in horror at the idea, but the fact that you can ""adopt" little sisters is compelling. I look forward to it, so long as there are no more damn sneaky dentists hiding behind me in the next one, that bastard ruined my favorite skivvies...

Lol yeah that dentist screwed my day. Ironic I had a dentists appointment the day I played that part

This isn't just to you, its to everyone who thinks that its a gimmick,

How is it gimmick? Its an fps, you can't see the rest of your character, so you might as well be Jack for all the difference it makes.

Actually, you can see the rest of your body, including your face in the mirror. They stated it in the GameInformer article.

Is it sad that when I saw this thread, the first thing I thought of was the Adam Sandler movie?

Ehem, anyways... yes, it's a good idea. It'll be cool to have that feeling of being this big strong machine-like thing. Just sounds like plain old fun.

I'm fairly interested in being able to play as a Big Daddy but more curious as to find out why exactly we're playing as the "prototype" Big Daddy.

If this is the first one to have been created, then that means it predates all the other Big Daddies you encountered during the first game. So, what exactly was this big daddy doing for the course of that game? Granted, Rapture is meant to be a big place so there's the chance that it's lurking in some you haven't explored yet, but it'll be interesting to see reason they have for putting is in the shoes of Mr Big Daddy here.
