Hunters from all Halo games. It takes two sticky grenades to the orange, soft, back of the beast. But still everyone (including me) feels its necessary to run at it full on emptying their assault rifle ammo on the blue, hard, armor.
not really it only takes one shot to the stomach with a sniper rifle.
what difficulty are you on?
it was either the hardest or second hardest difficulty on Halo 2.

I'm gonna go ahead and say everything in F.E.A.R.. It was toted as a tactical shooter and it was true to that. If you approached a squad of soldiers, you took aim at his head and dropped him with one shot. Awesome. However, suddenly now every other squadmate is aware of you and it now takes anywhere from 2-5 headshots for a BASIC marine. Then start throwing in power armors and armored vehicles and it takes the collective ordinance of a small country just to get through the game.

the Tank from L4D. its pretty much its purpose. that and the Heavy and the Scout from TF2. the Heavy can obviously take the most damage, and the Scout is just a ***** to shoot when he's running around.
I'm a freakin blur here!

From the first Mass Effect, I'd have to go with both the Colossus and Thresher Maw. Though to be honest, I've yet to fight the latter since I discovered the Mako has a cannon as well. Never actually bothered hitting the RB when in that thing until my last playthrough. My reaction was somewhere along the lines of "Wh-What!? You...You've gotta be freakin' kidding me!!"

I am going to agree with a another guy in the thread, Feral Ghoul Reavers. Those things are tough to beat. It's like they have Bulletproof armour on.

Roboscorpions in Old World Blues at about Level 40. I wasn't even a melee character but using the proton axe is much better than trying to shoot them.
*cringes* yeah, even with the sonic emitter thing those things were still brick; I ended up using melee as well... until I saw the X-42; right, tesla's coming out to play. A ton of microfusion cells later it took the hint.

legendary bloatfly, sure it's easy to kill but it takes so many shots seriously I got 20 stealth criticals with a silenced sniper rifle with full condition and with 100 in guns and it still had more than half it's health. Tip if you want to kill it quickly use Elijah's tesla cannon.
*cringes even more* its the only enemy that has actually killed me on my current playthrough; I ended up sneak attacking it with Elijah's tesla as well.

OT: most of the mercenaries in Farcry 2; they can take a 7.62mm round from a SVD rifle to the head and still survive, albeit they collapse to the ground and start screaming for help; still it makes for some real blood boiling moments, especially when someone survives half a magazine from an AK-47. Towards the end of the game, I started just trying to avoid gunfights and sneaking around where possible; gunfights took too long and used up way too many health thingies.
The horned kath hounds in KOTOR2; there were only like two of them on Dantooine, but they took ages to bring down and you got nothing (besides some paltry xp) for killing them.
Thresher maws in Mass Effect; they took ages to kill without them spawning beneath you and insta-killing you and only gave xp and some credits. I started avoiding them; it wouldn't have been so bad if there was some indication where they'd come up; I was deliberately driving erratically and they still managed to keep coming up directly beneath me and killing me instantly.

I'm going to say every enemy in Mass Effect 2.

Considering the scarcity of ammo "thermal" clips, the fact that they only refill a percentage of the total amount of ammo, and the Sniper rifles that have any power only hold about 10 ammo, the game pretty much gives a big FU to Infiltrators. So, yea. Everything is a waste of ammo when you generally don't have any ammo to waste. Thus, I just end up letting my squad mates shoot while I threw fireballs, hack and dominate.
That. Infs got fucked so hard. At some point I just went invis and melee every battle.

Just a little question to you all out there. In games what do you fnd to be just big bullet sponges or just a total waste of ammo when you see them?
For me i would say the giant radscorpion from FO3 right now since ive been playing it again recently, The ammount of shots it can take sometimes just feels like a waste, sometimes i will just break its legs and walk away its not worth it.
That's nothing.

Try Super Mutant Overlords, Ghoul Reavers, and Albino Radscorpions, those are the real bullet sponges.

Hell, even one Reaver takes at least two Mini Nukes directly before dying.
*Cough* Death Claws
Deathclaws are easy as pie, if you cripple their legs with a dart gun. They are in no way bullet spongers, especially compared to the others i mentioned.

In New Vegas however...Holy Jesus Christ on a bleeding pogo stick! They will screw you over big time!
Death Claw Pack Alpha. Wheee, so screwed. Had to goad one into a minefield I had put down, and put several sniper-rifle criticals in its head, before it went down.
Then again, I was only level 12 and not supposed to be there. They didn't even give me the quest because I wasn't "though enough".
HAH!

Everything in old world blues. I brought a gatling laser and with 100 energy weapons skill I thought it would be a breeze, until everything had 6 million HP and my tickle-laser became useless.
I agree. I brought along my top grade weapons and still ran out of ammo early on. I was wondering how energy weapons did in there since I made a 'guns' build character this time around.

Those things are fucking awful. Worse than any enemy. Worse than deathclaws. At least Deathclaws run in straight lines.

The fight with
Sean Darcy
in Alpha Protocol was an absolute nightmare. I wasted a ton of ammo because I didn't realize the other tower had a sniper rifle in it.

I think Legate Lanius was the only time in New Vegas I thought the fight was taking an obnoxious amount of ammo.

When I realized that the upgraded sniper rifle only had a few bullets, I reloaded, picked up assault rifle training, and kept the one with 10 or 14 rounds in a clip. Sure, it might not have had as much power, but the fire rate and amount of ammo made up for it.

OT: I found a lot of the big enemies in inFamous 2 had a lot of health. Almost too much. Even late in the game an Ice Titan would require heavy use of strong powers like grenades and rockets. Usually, I'd have to charge up in the middle of wiping out the arms which could be problematic when you had one destroyed.

For those that don't know, in inFamous 2, you'd have to fight enemies known as Ice Titans late in the game. To kill them, you had to destroy both arms (they'd regenerate in time if you were fast), then expose the weak spot. Only then could you actually hurt them. And late in the game, they weren't exactly rare.

Anyone ever in MW2, that uses fucking painkiller.
Especially sniperfags with it >_>
I'll hit em with a burst of my FAMAS, and go on my way since they should be dead, but they start to turn and I have to empty the clip to kill them.
I played a game of domination last week where the other team was all riotshield/c4/commando/painkiller, and so long as you stayed far away from them, and keep your gun full of ammo, you'd be fine. But heaven help you if you were missing a single bullet from your clip, cuz that'd be the one you need to finish them off...
Most boring/frustrating game of domination ever...

I see your RE4 giants and raise you one Iron Maiden. Even with the thermal scope, you have to spend an extra bullet to shoot out its leg to get to the parasite on its back.

Or a single pistol hit to the orange (In the first game). Nothing makes me feel more hardcore than taking out a pair of hunters with two bullets.

As Oblivion progresses, the enemies all get more and more health until eventually you just have to spend 5 minutes hacking ineffectively at them. It has horrible, horrible combat.

How has no one brought up any Shin Megami Tensei games? Persona 4's more difficult fights do require strategy, but Shadow Mitsuo (for example) took me nearly an hour to whittle down, a time not helped by his ability to create a damage sponge boss... within a damage sponge boss... every eight or nine turns! Not a waste of ammo per se, but I ran through an ungodly amount of SP taking him down.

I feel ya brother, I usually have the same reaction. Damn big bugs.
Reapers from Resident Evil 5. Seriously, the first time I fought them I thought"Oh, giant bug, very original RE. Now I'll handily kill it with this new MachineGun and...". It gets back up, I waste all my MG ammo on it and am now running like a scared little *****, praying Sheva keeps up. Ah, good times...
