Yeah I know. But I really want a nice, semi-scripted, modern-setting, corridor shooter which is set in a unique environment and doesn't involve some kind of dick-sucking alien/monster. I love Far Cry 2 but wish there was a linear contempory to it.
The CoD games don't come anywhere near due to them being scripted up the asshole. You're led through the entire level and have no chance of doing aything different. Crysis has one absolutely glorious level where it dumps you at the edge of a massive square map and tells you to take out something on an island and something on a bridge. Then it just leaves you to do it as you want. Sneak about on foot, steal a jeep, hijack a boat, carve a path of destruction towards the objective - it's entirely your choice. Far Cry 2 was the same for me just the battles felt a bit less cinematic due to their entirely unscripted nature.
But Crysis had so much potential, before fucking itself up the ass with that alien mission and everything after.
You wouldn't have happened to play any of the S.W.A.T. games, would you? They sound like they could fulfill what you're looking for, though a little more tactical-based.

Probably Halo Reach. So much useless hype for a game that was useless to the franchise. I am very disappointed in it.

No game has dissapointed me this year because I like to judge sequels by general standards and not the standards that their predecessors set.

Sure ME2 wasn't as immersive or epic as its predecessor, but it got the combat and the inventory system right so hurrah.

Ok New Vegas wasn't as big or polished as Fallout 3, but it actually felt like a Fallout game whereas Fallout 3 felt like a wierd imitation of a Fallout game.

Final Fantasy XIII wasnt great but I'm not dissapointed because the bar has been set ridiculously low by recent JRPGs.

I could go on, but in short, no game has dissapointed me this year because despite the fact that most of them are sequels and inferior to their predecessors, they were all very good games, with the exception being Black Ops but I wasn't expecting much because its a Treyarch game and Treyarch=mediocrity.

To put it even shorter, I haven't been dissapointed because i'm not a pretentious dickwad.

Ok, the year is coming to a close, and many great games have come out, but I bet there are many of you out there who are disappointed with how some turned out.

So tell us, what were your biggest disappointments of '10 in gaming...

(and no one says Alpha Protocol because it was awesome DX)
(or Shattered Memories)
I was disappointed in Alpha Protocol... not being a bigger hit, and not getting a sequel.
I think the game's great. Graphics aren't the best and it has a few bugs, but the setting is one that's rarely used in RPGs, and for that alone it's awesome.

For actual disappointments, gotta go with Mass Effect 2, I love the game a lot, but there was just something about it, it didn't "spark" with me the same way the first one did.
I think it was from the lack of a proper villain

Fallout New Vegas is one of the most disappointing games I've EVER played, so that wins 2010 by a landslide.

The most tragic thing is that if only the game actually functioned, it would have probably wound up being my favorite game of the year. But the constant crashes (and worse, the growing paranoia about said crashes!) made the game almost unendurable.

I made some very safe purchases this year, but I'm going with Metroid Other M after playing it on a friend's Wii. For obvious reasons. Bad combat, boring cutscenes, terrible characters, and of course making the main character completely dependent on someone else to the point of pure stupidity. It annoyed me even more when Moviebob called anyone who disliked Samus' characterization on the Game Overthinker sexist. Um, no Bob, just no. There's a difference between having flaws and being turned into an angsty, clingy nutjob.

Splinter Cell: Conviction. I was super excited to finally get to play it a couple weeks ago. Big meh.
I quite enjoyed it, but I never played any of the others. I'm presuming the reason people weren't into it was that it didn't live up to the earlier games?
I've heard that from a lot of people, not in my case though. I just found the game very repedetive and the stealth felt sort of clunky.

Also, your music is awesome.

I was quite disappointed with Civilization V. There's a big split among veterans of the series: some think Civ 5 is the next great step forward, others think it killed the series by simplifying the game to appeal to a larger audience and get more cash money. I'm in the latter group

Unfortunately that errs too much on the side of ultra-realism for me. I don't mind realism in some game aspects, but when it's included in others (from what I've seen that game comes from the school of thought that guns are all horrifically inaccurate at any range) then I start to take issue.

Should have mentioned that Crysis Warhead bugged the hell out of me as well. It would have made sense to make that game alien-free, to see if people enjoyed it more. But no, soon enough the game goes back to its happy-fun-time with dickaliens.

I think what I need is a modern day remake of Delta Force. That was a classic from back in the day. Maybe the new Operation Flashpoint would be alright. My only concern there is the SP is supposedly lacking and MP is where it's at.

I don't get the complaint about Alpha Protocol's graphics. I thought people hated modern gamings emphasis on trying to have the best, most flashy graphics possible.

I also don't think the game needs a strict sequel but rather another setting and story utilising the same dialogue/reputation/choice mechanics because they are literally the best I have seen in any game. Ever.

The worst part is I bought the CE and CE guide so I am out $90, in second place is FF13 I looked foward to that for a long time and it was just a failure all the way around.

For me it had to be Red Steel 2, for reasons I still don't understand I really liked the first game and although the second improved on many aspects such as the combat something just seemed to be missing... (probably the plot/characterisation, first was cliched but enjoyable, second literally had none).

New Vegas. A buggy, less immersive version of Fallout 3. Perhaps it was my fault for playing its predecessor to death. Even without the bugs it was too similar to 3, with most of the 'new features' being gimmicks at best.
Funny. I thought of the same thing about Fallout 3 when it came up after Fallout 2.

I always looked the Illusive Man as a villain. Played the whole game trough thinking that that creepy asshole is gonna doublecross me any moment now. Made the first playtrough rather interesting.

Halo: Reach. It was a good game but there were alot of problems for stuff that worked fine in Halo 3. Also it'd be nice if some of the armor acctually did something instead of purely for looks. It was still a good game but...

Mass Effect 2 hands down.

Wanted Mass Effect 2.
Got Gears of War 2.

Even without the horrific over reliance on "cover/shooting your way through linear shooting galleries", the story was so epically shit that I wouldnt have been able to overlook ift if I had tried.

Maybe the game could have had a chance if it didnt rely on singular character missions that dont impact the main story in any unique or meaningful way, but it doesnt. The game is simply linear shooting gallery busywork for isolated, disposable characters. They hardly even friggin interact with eachother for gods sake! Say what you want about elevators, but they at least did that, and were no more boring than the new stupid load screens.

Since Bioware were so FUCKING lazy with ME2s plot and decision carryover, Im expecting a lot from them in ME3 if Im to buy it, and I mean A LOT! Im talking more than just pissant cameos for the ME1 romances - make them SQUADMATES again, or Wrex having a role that actually IMPACTS the game, and isnt just cancelled out by a shitty clone character called Wreav. Also like saving the council actually having a big impact. Use your imagination for something other than "how can we make this carryover as crappy and small as possible?" Bioware!

If I spent most of my time in ME2 pew'pew'ing through crappy little disposable shooting galleries collecting the stupid team that are too cumbersome to have too much of an impact in ME3, I want to spent most of my time in ME3 interacting with a great story, gameworld and characters I have enjoyed since ME1 (and that my Shepard has built strong bonds with).

Thanks :)

I found the game a bit clunky too, especially the shooting.
