Dante's Inferno.
Said this in other threads, but I was looking forward to the game for a long time after seeing some pictures in a game magazine. It ended up being an extremly short game that completly ripped off God of War(yet unsuccessfully so) and had horrible voice acting.

Final Fantasy XIII
I wasn't expecting much after X-2 and XII, but I still wanted it to be fun and last for a long while. Sure, it lasted a while, but I didn't have fun. I was constantly bothered with the combat system, the story(I didn't understand shit until over halfway through) and the main characters.
I've never had much love for J-RPGs, but I grew up with Final Fantasy. Not supporting it anymore though. It's time to move on!

Mass Effect 2 sucked, pure and simple. It sucked for a lot of reasons, but the foremost among them is, beyond the shadow of a doubt:

SPACE BABY.

Mass Effect 2.

Its like they sat down and said "lets rip out most of what made this series Mass Effect, and put Gears of War in its place".

Ironically, its like that because thats exactly what they did, just not using those exact words.

Biggest tip for Bioware with ME3: "visceral fucking dumbass shooter combat" is not what I was sold on in 07. Why not actually make a game that, oh I dont know, has in depth characters, a large, well fleshed out main plot, and a gameworld that meshes with the plot brilliantly. You know, the kind of things I expected from Bioware for over a decade.

Not just fucking shooting gallery after shooting gallery so that you can beat us over the head with your stupid, repetative new "shooter combat" overhaul.

Most disappointing game of 2010. Most disappointing sequel I have ever played, because outside of tiny references, its barely even a sequel, and definitely not an RPG, not even in the form of an ARPG. Sequels should not spent 20+ hours of repetative busywork just leading up to a total restating of the first games ending, and the first one did the ending better as well!

Dead Rising 2. Such a downgrade from the first one. Just because the Survivor AI is better doesn't mean the game is.

Final Fantasy 13, it wasn't as big a disappointment as FF 12 and it was a decent enough game to playthrough but I have no motivation to go back to it and either attempt the post game challenges or go for a second run through... although I am tempted to go back and play FF tactics, 7 or possibly 10 just now

Just kind of Nintendo in general for me, really. Haven't really liked anything they've brought out in the past 2 years, to be honest. Something about them just seemed hard to the point of being cheep.

I wonder if you played the game and if you did if you took time to do any character quests. Although I guess to people like you ANY third person shooter with a cover mechanic is immediately a gears of war knockoff despite combat being completely different, simply because the actual game was the exact opposite of what you described.

What game was the biggest disappointment for you in 2010? Mine was, without a doubt, Final Fantasy XIII. It's the only FF game I have yet to complete, and I don't think I ever will. What about you guys? Any games you had high hopes for and were completely let down by last year?
Ironically, it's the only Final Fantasy game I HAVE completed.

And I've played all of them, from 1 to 13. Excluding 11.

I usually go for 100% completion, and get bored. Never get around to finally challenging the Final Boss.

You mean the character quests of which all bar *two* ALWAYS involve gunning down countless hordes, only mildly intersped with dialogue?

Sorry, your fanboy denial doesnt change the fact that my analysis of the game is completely irrefutable.

Enjoy it all you like, but dont bother denying that the game is largely centred around ducking behind cover, and then popping out to shoot enemies (you know, like Gears of War). It just makes you sound like an idiot, and in actual fact you being the one who hasnt played the game.

What? You think because Bioware threw in a few pathetic powers that were dumbed down compared to the first game, that somehow gameplay is different? Sorry, you still get forced into regenating health, and taking cover. You still get forced to pick ammo. You still have yet more weapons forced into your hands (instead of, oh I dont know, another chance to pickup bonus powers?) You still have your biotics and tech powers gimped into near uselessness on higher difficulties.

There is no arguing this fact, well over 50% of the game will be spent engaging in gameplay which not only borrows heavily from Gears of War, but dumbs down the elements which arent borrowed, and overall forces you into playing the game like it.

The easiest and most factual way to describe ME2 is "Gears of War with interactive cutscenes". People used to say "dialogue", but they dumbed that down too, so much to the extent that you only have two options differing in tone, both leading to the same outcome.

So its Mass Effect 1? I mean cover system is there too..actually I didn't even have to cover in Mass effect 1. I could just run and gun down everything. Glad they fixed that in 2 and actually made it a danger to get shot by people. Everything you hate about Mass Effect 2, 1 had as well.

OT: Final Fantasy XIV. I played the hell out of Final Fantasy XI for many, many, many months and then FF XIV comes out and this is what I have been waiting for? No thanks. Terrible game.

Bioshock 2. I knew it wasn''t gonna be too good, but c'mon. It was just boring and meaningless.

And if I count in all purchases this year, Call of Juarez: BiB. I was expecting something of it, but it turned out to be a chore.

Yes your argument comparing games that have nothing to do with one another is the supreme example of the perfect debate winning line.

I'll say it again, a game that has similar mechanic isn't a ripoff. I remember shooting in gears of war, totaly ripping off grand theft auto. Metroid prime has tricky 3d platforms, totally stealing from mario 64, If the game for you was 50% combat, then I doubt you did any exploration, because I remember those sections in GoW where I flew to another space colony, or in Mass Effect 2 where I threw those grenades before chainsawing a guy in half. Little note, or of the most fun challenges I had was going as a biotic and seeing how far I could get without firing a single bullet only using a gun when I had to, and I can garuntee it wasn't very often, I remember that from GoW. I'm not going to argue for story or cutscens as it is obvious you are trolling there.

But don't worry, just go back to heavy rain because for you the game was mired down by too many sections where you actually play it.

Mass Effect 2, and Fallout: New Vegas.
I know I'll be unpopular, but I don't care.
I didn't like them, deal with it!

I finished the game (much to my surprise) and you're right. The combat was nothing like Gear of War.
At least gears of war had a cover system that worked rather than one where you stick to EVERYTHING if you even brush passed it.
How was the game the exact opposite of what he described?
He's right. There is barely anything left in the game to classify it as an rpg anymore. The first game was a tactical real time rpg with third person shooting elements.
The second game was dumbed down for the console generation and made into a fairly generic third person shooter. They gutted all but 3 rpg elements and tried to pass it off as Mass Effect.
Quick question? Did you like Deus Ex: Invisible War? I Actually did but I know alot of people didn't. Mass Effect 2 for me was like the whole Deus Ex fiasco all over again, except this time they simplified and dumbed it down to the extent that I didn't want to play it anymore.

None of the games I played disappointed me this year (Especially Mass Effect 2, a game that exceeded my expectations in every way). I guess that makes me an asshole.

I would have to say Halo Reach. Not only was the campaign too easy and monotonous, but the story way predictably boring. Saying nothing more about the campaign, the multiplayer was at first fun, until you realize that every single map is unbalanced, the fact bungie will no longer continue development on it justs add to that aura of shittyness. There are few things worse than a development team working on a franchise they know is dead, but people will buy anyway.

Mafia 2, it seemed like it would be fun from the trailers and gameplay that I saw but it just wasn't fun or entertaining.

No More Heroes 2.

I absolutely loved the first game. I loved the roaming, the assassain challenges, the jobs, the searching for cash to enter tourneys.

Pretty much every mother effin' thing they took out in the second game. Completely ruined it.
