What was your biggest gaming dissapointment? Something that really put you down when you were excited for something, for instance, learning about a fancy new feature that turned out to be nothing more than a cheap gimmick, etc. I was pretty bummed when Rainbow Six Vegas came out, promising a realistic Las Vegas environment, but I never once felt like I was in Vegas. So tell me, what was your biggest dissapointment in gaming?

The Orange Box.
Everyone said that it was amazing, the best deal I could find, and that all of the games are some of the best in the world.
They were all pretty shitty.

Not a single game, but I hate that crushing disappointment when you get to the end of the single player mode for most modern FPS and think, "Is that it?"

Mafia 2. It had LESS features and was LESS fun than an 8 year older prequel.

And they tried to milk it with some of the worst DLC ever.

Hmm, Borderlands ending is pretty bad, but I'm going to have to go with the plot of Final Fantasy XII in general. The game is really trying hard to say something but it just never gets there.

Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts. I was sooo excited about it, the potential of making my own vehicles, rather like Lego was great, but it turned out I had to just do stupid fetch quests.

Final Fantasy XIII.

And I actually really enjoyed the game, but the main problems were too noticeable. Good try Square Enix, maybe you'll get everything right with Versus XIII.

Resident Evil 5.

Terrible atmosphere, terrible AI partner garbage, no horror at all. It was trying way too hard to be a generic action game instead of an RE game.

I would extend this answer to: everything after Final Fantasy X. X-2 was misguided, XII was forgettable at best, and XIII was visually stunning and, as you say, enjoyable, but too far removed from what I (and many others) want from a FF game.

Oh, and then there were two MMOs...don't get me started on that.

Resident Evil 5

Two Worlds (I read a preview that made it sound incredible...I was so sad when I finally got to play it)

Shadow the Hedgehog (Thought Shadow was pretty cool in Adventure 2. Was really looking forward to playing his game. It was...an unpleasant experience.)

Final Fantasy XIII (so glad I rented this one. Hated the combat, hated how suddenly the story started, and I hated the level design)
Edit: Post-10 FFs in general. I didn't care for FF10's grid system and missed my world map, but I liked most of the cast and played the game to completion...it's the lastest one that I've actually played through to the end.

Console Wars being less fun...Sony has its moments, but most of them time it comes down to tech instead of hilarious commercials.

Off the top of my head, Bioshock 2 comes up first. It felt like a rushed re-hash and re-skin, making the worst part of Bioshock a core gaming mechanic (the protecting the Little Sister).

Hopefully though Bioshock Infinite will restore my faith in this series.

I was disappointed by Star Ruler.

I was expecting either a new Homeworld or a new SoaSE, but instead it was a complex, sort of maybe half-finished game partway between SoaSE and Galactic Civilizations.

Not what I was expecting.

Call of Duty series. Though I was never expecting much from them, the hype and people's reactions to shitty copy-paste games made me disappointed.

Fable 2. Just In general. The Dog was underwhelming. Co-op sucked. Slow time was broken. Magic was spam-tastic. Just in general the game felt shallow and unrefined.
