http://kotaku.com/5458493/no-lan-or-dedicated-servers-for-bioshock-2-multiplayer

So it seems that the PC version of Bioshock 2 is becoming more and more troublesome. Between the SecurROM, GFWL and now this dedicated server shenanigans, I will most likely be picking up my copy for my PS3 if at all. I really don't think it needs a sequel, so I am waiting for the reviews to come out before I pick it up. No, I am not trying to start a boycott either because we all know how well those work.

I'm buying it for the console anyway, since that is where I mostly game, though it does kinda suck about the DRM. I wish you all luck with it and I hope it isn't too extensive

I don't even care.

In my opinion, you only LAN when you play Warcraft 3 or Starcraft.

Any other way does not make any sense to me.

Also, how the frink does the fact that Bioshock 2 won't have LAN make you want to buy it for the PS3.

The PS3 isn't really a LAN-console.

I'll probably pirate it and then not care at all about lan or multiplayer. So far it only looks ok and as the first game was passable but not great, I don't have strong feelings about buying it.

Bioshock doesn't need multiplayer so I don't care.

I'm not sure if Bioshock even needs a sequel.

I shall buy it for PC, because that's all I have. I dunno if I will buy it actually, unless it's a marked improvement over the first (which was great, but had problems).

If its just a glorified expansion pack then count me out.
Define "glorified expansion pack".

I can understand not having Dedicated Servers, just given the trend of MP gaming, but not having LAN support and Kicking of players just seems stupid. LAN technology has been around for YEARS back to old DOS days, so I can't imagine it takes long to implement such a system. As far as no kicking goes, that to me sounds like a VIP invitation to the Assholes Ball. I don't see why majority vote kicking shouldn't be allowed. I'm willing to bet that once people start abusing the system that they'll release a patch implementing it.

I haven't finished, or even come close to finishing, the first Bioshock, so until that changes I have no interest in the 2nd.

To me, the thing I find most stupid about this decision is that Bioshock's based on the Unreal engine, which has had LAN and dedicated server support pretty much since it was created. While I don't think Bioshock 2 really needs multiplayer, if they're going to include they could have at least done it right.

Meh, multiplayer isn't the biggest part about Bioshock for me anyway. Probably not going to buy it for other reason... Like that the original Bioshock didn't appeal to me either. I don't like watching cut-scenes that can't be skipped in the first person view, I disliked that about Half-Life and do not like it in any other FPS game either.
