My mind is now blown.

This looks amazing, and I have new hopes for the series!

Did you pay any attention in Ryan Amusements?
I've already pointed out that none of those exhibits actually said he built it from the ground up.
Actually they did. There was a bunch of stuff about foundations and stuff:

So basically another excuse to have a fairly limited playing map that they tell you is large and open but really you just wander round the same section several times before defeating a boss and moving on to never be able to return.

Well...

I think it said workers toiled day and night to build the foundations, not neccesarily the city itself.
Go to the end. It says they kept building after the foundations were built. "Workers toiled around the clock to create the metropolis you see today."

I am so glad it isn't SS3. But I was expecting something... different. I would say please stop milking the BS franchise, mainly because I didn't like it.

Kind of what I was hoping Bioshock 2 would be, that is, a different venue and different characters.

Didn't think it would be in the Sky though... a lot of potential for beautiful vistas, too.

*would also be perfect timing for a Nick Fury, and his flying aircraft carrier to make cameo into the Bioshock universe :p

So, in 1912, we can send a city in the air, but the Titanic can't make it across a sea...

The story interests me none the less.

"My disappointment also goes out to people when it comes to franchises like this. Here, finally you have a game that tries to do something different (even though mostly in the likes of SS2, but then again SS2 hasn't been done to death like Gears or MW), and all the people that would be complaining about the lack of fresh ideas a second ago will show nothing but contempt now."

I'm sorry, but I just have to ask... How the hell has Gears been done to death? There are two games, both of them high-quality action games... That doesn't equate do "done to death" in any way...

OT: OMFG!!! That trailer looks AMAZING!!!So looking forward to this... Still haven't tried Bioshock 2, we bought it a couple of days ago, but our xbox decided that would be a good time to stop registering that we were putting any discs inside it... So, in three weeks I'll play Bioshock 2.

Also, i doubt Rapture is Columbia sunken to the bottom of the ocean, simply because the city would most definately get smashed to pieces when it landed in the ocean, and also, a flying city is not built to withstand the pressure that Rapture has to put up with. Especially not the windows, as you can quite clearly see in the trailer. Also the poster with the woman seems to imply a sort of "don't bring your problems to our perfect american world"-mentality, the exact opposite of everything Andrew Ryan built Rapture to represent. Besides, if everyone in Columbia already has superpowers and "mechanized mega-guardians", why would there be such an emphasis on the plasmids and Big Daddies being created under the sea?

Also, I agree that they should ditch the "Bio"-prefix and simply go with "Something"-shock. I'm liking the "Aeroshock" suggested somewhere in this thread :)

EDIT: The quote at the beginning got messed up somehow, sorry about that

I saw the trailer an hour ago. I just shouted. I thought Bioshock 2 was the best game ever. (please, this is MY opinion, don't bash me for it) I really hope this will be good. It's a bit of the shame it isn't in Rapture, but I understand the developers. The only thing they could do with Rapture now is a prequel. I really hope there won't be a sequel to Bioshock 2.

90% Of the entire BioShock universe is practically untouched. We haven't seen the city get build, we haven't seen the city in it's prime and alive and we haven't witnessed it's fall into insanity.

Why ON EARTH they did not use that for the second game?! All that material has so much potential for a brilliant and unique BioShock game! Yet we got a BioShock 1 clone with some tweaks. What a shame what a shame.

[sub]Disclaimer: I did enjoy BioShock 2, but in the end I was still disappointed.[/sub]
The multiplayer of bioshock2 was for this. It was the new years and the insanity that followed.

The Bioshock name is kept because obviously they want to keep all the plasmids and whatever, I don't understand why everyone is upset with the idea because of the second game. The reason it's good was atmosphere and plot, the plot you'll never know from a trailer, so keep the crap to yourself and give it time.

On another note, YESSSS STEAMPUNK.

I'm more interested in the patriotism of this place. It feels very distinctly American. The architecture is pretty much a copycat of Southern mansions, you can hear a guy listening to, oh, I forget the name of the tune, but it's essentially American patriot music. It's stated that the game has a Wild West feel to it as well. The setting takes itself from 1870s America, surely, but the characters take themselves from the hardboiled genre. The main character, for the most part. Disgraced PI? Likely a cop that was fired for insubordination. Disgraced PIs test highly on that. So do hardboiled detectives. Another thing, hardboiled detectives have a tendency to try to fix America all by themselves. Given that this giant sky city is the ultimately corrupt flagship of American patriotism, the theme that he's coming here to purify it will pop up.

That's why I have to disagree with the notion that Columbia is simply Rapture in the sky. Rapture encompassed the elements of the Cold War in its architecture. It had these skyscrapers with neon lights mixed in with tenements and dilapidated structures, whereas Columbia is highlighted by wide mansions and space in general, meant to symbolize the freedom of America. In a way, Rapture was expressing the depth of the Atlantic Ocean through the height of its buildings, where Columbia represents the vastness of the sky through its wide spaces. It's impossible for one to become the other. There's the sweet irony in that Columbia is an open place with a closed society (because most of these people, if not all of them, are Americans), where Rapture was a closed place with an open society (where Ryan went out of his way to grab intelligent foreigners).

I'm sure the settings are very distinct. However, I'm not so sure if I'll be interested in the game that much, if only it seems you can't do as much with it. I mean, Bioshock was great because you were trapped in this place and it seemed as if you'd entered a House of Horrors against your will. That you're intentionally flying into this city and intentionally fighting this city that everyone knows exists, well, it's just not as sexy.

My question is, why is this in the Bioshock franchise? It looks like it could be a perfectly good game on it's own rights, it doesn't look entirely like Bioshock game but just a 2k fps

3 facts about Bioshock
1. Bioshock Infinite is developed by the original creators of Bioshock
2. Bioshock 2 was by a completely different company
3. Bioshock Infinite is a prequel and takes place in 1912.

Bioshock - Plasmids that effect your body
System Shock (never played it was too young when it came out) - Cyber stuff

What's next, I doubt they will milk Bioshock again after this, hmm next something that effects peoples minds, Psychoshock (as someone said before)? Location: Underground cave turned paradise, like a whole...aww whats the name for that world where dinosaurs lived underground?

Anyway that type of thing.

Actually I'm calling this now!
