BioShock Movie, your opinion?

I don't have any hopes. Bioshock is fantastic as a game, but it would have to be completely reworked to work in any way as a good movie (a movie cannot have all this fighting). I don't think they will do it, but go instead for a gimmicky way, and try to capture the feeling of playing the game in a crappier way than the game itself. It will probably be cheesy as hell, and without the delicious sense of humor, sense of awe and real thought and emotion at the bottom of all.

But I doubt that project will go far, and it's already cancelled, if I'm not mistaken.

I don't know if it would be a good idea, first, there must be a really good script following events from the game, and you know that scripwriters dislike copy pasting / some of them even invent the origins of the main protagonist,

for example >> Hitman 47 being an orphan instead of a Cloned man, or worse >> Max Payne, i'm sorry but a guy under the effect of a drug who killed his wife and child ??? why didn't they put the real deal: Clinically insane mofo's who hit his family.

secondly, you need money to make it worth the risk.

thirdly, many directors, actors etc, really don't give a sh¡t about fans or gamers opinions; i may quote other people as an example, but i won't for respect.

that's all i can figure of right now...

I could see how it could work, but I have a feeling that it won't.

I have a feeling it will be just like EVERY other game-movie: shit. :p

Nope I though that film was fantastic.
Same here!

OT:As long as they stay WELL away from any romance in it then i should be good.
I third that.

And come on, of course it'll have a contrived romantic plot forced in. Have you seen the Far Cry movie?

I've not had the chance to play much of Bioshock, but from what I've seen it's got a lot of potential to be a great film. If it's done right
If it's done right which, as we all know, game-movie adaptations don't have a very good history...

i don't know, I think that there are many possibilities, especially if they make the second one into a movie. There are so many cool action scenes you can do in a movie rather than in a game. For example, a big daddy, in the movie, could grab a security bot flying towards it in mid air and just rip it in half. However, one thing that would be hard would be to tell all of the story, because a lot of the background story was told through the audio diaries in the game. It would be quite a challenge to tell these stories in the movie.

With some changes it could work, like a main character

IMO, GTA IV would work better, and as a series

Could be worth it. Shit, I want to see a Live-Action Big Daddy or Big Sister. That on a movie poster would be enough to warrant a sale.

Pff... It's got a great setting, but the storyline of the original game really depends on being in the protaganist's shoes. If they want to retell the same story, it's going to take a pretty good writer to conjure a similar experience in the third person-- which is to say, a better class of writer than typically gets set upon a video game interpretation. If they ditch the story of the original game and try to go off in their own direction in the same setting, they have an even harder battle to fight- they need to create something meaningful for an audience that's going to expect shallowness out of a video game adaption, and they need to make something that won't seem like a betrayal to fans of the game.

Worst case scenario- we get an action/horror fluff piece with groaning men in diving suits. Best case scenario- they manage to create something with some poignancy and resonance and downplay the action elements except for well-envisioned set pieces.

I have to say, all things considered, that I'd put about 3-1 odds against it being any good.

It would have to follow the story of a father who's trying to get his little girl back from being a little sister, because I say so.

They had better not make it. It would be a scar to the game that would never be forgotten. Do not let Hollywood ruin yet another one of our pastimes.

Depends whether they go for a direct game-movie translation or just want to put the universe depicted in the game on the big screen.

If they go for numero uno, I too have strong doubts. If they go for the latter however, I have high hopes. BioShock's source material is absolutely fantastic and could sprout an absolutely amazing movie. Especially the Fontaine/Atlas business and the following civil war could make for a brilliant film.

You start out with this wonderful, glorious art deco city and during the movie you see it descend into madness. It's something we haven't seen in the games yet, I would be extremely curious. It would also depict the game's (or rather, Ayn Rand's) philosophy the best.

I think it'd be interesting to have the Bioshock score but to have modern artists covering the 50's tracks. I would love to hear a Norah Jones singing Billie Holiday and such.

I mean, the only remotely enjoyable one was DOOM, and that was because it was entertainingly stupid.

And I think the Bioshock movie might actually be classified as being in 'development hell' by now.
well lets just hope if the movie is made that it doesn't come down with a case of Street Fighter Syndrome

a live action Cowboy Bebop movie with Keanu Reeves as Spike
But... but... Spike can actually show emotion, he's a colorful character. Why must they ruin everything I love?
Tell me about it. Reeves shows less emotion than a rock... that had a stroke.
NO THANKS! If they cast Johnny Depp, Sean Maher, or David Tennant as Spike, Morena Baccarin or Kristen Kreuk as Faye, Zora Lancaster as Ed, and Bruce Willis or Jason Statham as Jet I'm good.

I've been hoping that there would be a successor to the film adaptation of Doom but we have yet to see it. As far as Silent Hill goes its in third place to me with the first Resident Evil movie in second.

I would love to see a beautifully crafted well controlled ( by 2k) story with amazing visuals and a cast that looks like it was chosen from the divine.

now it'll be nothing like that so I'll settle for a great story with pretty good visuals and a halfway decent cast thats not panhandling famous actors ( Shia Labeuoff, Sam jackson, carp like that. )

My biggest fear ( as of right now 2010) is that they'll hand it over to Uwe Bowe and if he does I think I'll take him up on his challenge. if they're smart they pick an directors that can DIRECT a good production.

but yeah I love bioshock like a triple cunted hooker. ( sorry just fininshed watching ZP)
as for news it's currently sittign in limbo for whats-his-name director guy is looking for a time where he can flee he country to Australia or U.K to make the movie becasue American movies now a days is more expensive than most forigen films or some jazz like that.
