"has the wave past?"

My friend, understand that I finished RE4 at the beginning of this year and it was the greatest thing I've ever played despite GoW2, Cod4, Halo3, Fable2, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Oblivion or even Fallout3.

No the wave has not certainly passed, but I'm afraid I would have to recommend a rent, though owning it myself, Bioshock 2 is coming and a rent would give you the wonderful single player experience.

Because right now my copy is collecting dust, but I still take pride in it.

It's still looks good, graphically, if that's what you're worried about. We can't all be wrong. Get it.

I thought Bioshock was a great game, but it is quite old and the wave has well and truly passed. If you do want the experience, save up for the second one, Bioshock: Sea of Dreams, which is coming out soon I believe.
Wrong. Totally wrong. Get both of them; you can find Bioshock online for 20-30 bucks and it is worth the original 60 dollar price tag (if you live in the US?). Not many games can boast that.

Of course it's good!! It's one of the best games I've ever played! Just one thing though - turn off the Vita Chambers!

No, BioShock is fairly innovative, but like my brother says, (exception obviously being all Valve games) "What's good isn't original, and what's original isn't good". It's extremely dark (mood and lighting), it's boring, it's difficult, it's laggy, it's got bad graphics, there's no weapons we haven't seen before, it's unneccesarily violent. Three words: DO NOT BUY.
Say what?! Are you serious?!!

Haha, my thoughts exactly. Bioshock is a fantastic game. Ok so some gameplay elements have been a little glossed over, but I didn't find it affected the fun. Boring? I played the first half in one sitting (in spite of having other things I needed to do) it was that good! Difficult? ...Now this is my only problem with the game. It's not difficult at all. On the contrary its too easy. Laggy? Have we played the same game? Bad graphics? Ha! I got killed by a big daddy because I stopped to admire the underwater scenery! And unnecessarily violent? Hmm, it's got that age rating on it for a reason...

In any case, you can get it pretty cheap these days. You owe it to yourself to buy it, no excuses.

I still have my copy in it's cellophane wrapper from Christmas 2007... I'll admit I got caught up in the hype and asked for it without really being all that interested.

Laggy:
My computer is 24-inch widescreen, Windows XP Proffesional Service Pack 2, 320GB HD, IntelCore Duo Processor (2.2Ghz), and 3GB of RAM, Dell. This lags like heck on all graphics minimized.
Bad Graphics:
Did you even PLAY the game? Wait, you did. Obviously you don't play many decent games. Half-life 2 series is good graphics. Final Fantasy XII is good graphics. BioShock is average graphics.
Boring:
You must have a taste for repeating the same brutally, excruciatingly violent animations/actions again and again and again. The only thing that isn't repetetive is the upgrading part, which seemed to be a complete rip-off of Ratchet and Clank.

You list all that but leave out the one thing that counts, graphics chip?

I would quote the last 2 posts except I think it's a waste of space as people will have already read what's come before this.

Nutcase, thank you for beating me to that one.

Maybe your graphics chip needs some juice, PoisonUnagi?
As for not playing many decent games, never assume, it makes an ass of u and me and never define a decent game as one that has good graphics. Good graphics do not count for good gameplay. I'm not saying Bioshock is the greatest thing to come out in the last few years, I just really enjoyed it as did many other people, which is why it received such a positive response. For once I'm with the majority(scarily...). Sure the gameplay may have peaked before halfway through the game, at which point you've seen all the weapons/plasmids/enemies it has to offer. However I still carried on playing as I was intrigued to see where 'Atlas' would take me. I am also aware there are more refined titles(dare I even say, more popular?), perhaps more than you're even aware of . Believe me, I've been gaming for about 4/5ths of my life and keep my mind open to various games across the platforms. As for having a taste for "repeating the same brutally, excruciatingly violent animations/actions again and again and again". I have tastes for many things, some days I need a different fix of something yet I would not describe Bioshock as a game that could satiate anything you mentioned in previous quote, as it's not brutal or excruciatingly violent. Incredibly bloody yes, but that's about as close as it gets to extreme violence. I just wanted to see where it goes.

The ONLY nongeneric thing is the setting but the gameplay is really bland, you basically have a pistol/tommygun/shotgun/flamethrower/camera/crossbow... wow.
Then there is your magic (no not plasmids, magic), which are most of the time very unuseful, you wont use em very often, because 1 or 2 shots will drain your mana (no, not eve) quick.

Its not a bad game, but there are much better games out there, if you get it cheap, buy it of course, but dont expect the messiah here

?: halflife is also very generic but i enjoyed it because of the believeable characters and EXTREME immersion

They gave you.... *gasp*....GUNS?!?
Those generic bastards. The game would have been great if not for those damn guns.

Dude, it's an FPS. Of course there are going to be guns. The "S" stands for 'shooter'. At least they're stylised to the time period, not a goddamn World War rifle or space laser.

I just don't see how combining genetic upgrades (no, not magic, genetics) with a flamethrower and an underwater 19050's dystopian city is in any way generic.

Also, clearly I have played the game.

As a FPS it's meh at best. At a horror based game that puts you in a pants-wetting atmosphere, filled with some of the best weapons upgrades I've ever seen, interesting powers, and enemy NPCs that make the hair on the back of my neck stand up it's outstanding. I nearly needed my brown pants when I first played it, sitting there in the dark, running across an NPC talking to a gun in a baby carriage, or hearing another woman wandering around with a pipe singing disjointedly "Jesus Loves Me". Just thinking of that still gives me chills.

Needless to say, it's fun, worth a look, and if nothing else rent it or borrow it from a friend before buying so you can't come back and tell us that we told you to wast forty bucks.
