And Liara, who (despite her age) I keep thinking of as [a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/gallery/view/26/112871/471.1"]jailbait[/a]. Same with Merril. Averline looks like she took too many steroids and has the emotional range of a spoon. Isabella is probably the one that gave Zevran all his STDs.
That's the reason I went with Anders. He's kind of cute, in a "At least I'm not a genocidal maniac (Fenris) have the mental age of an eight year old (Merril) or a total whore (Isabela)"
... touche good sir... you caught my typo...
And I believe Bioware has announced to a degree what is canon. For one thing Udina is the canon choice to be councilor. (due to a part in one of the books you find this out) So there actually is a canon story for it out there somewhere.
Don't get me started on Anders, I had to romance the whiny little bastard just to get him to not have a ***** fit and leave the party. So yeah its not just the women suffering anyone who wanted to play a gay play through got royally screwed as well.
I just want to say that this sums up my sentiments about the subject. Seriously, Garrus is attractive in all ways possible, alien-lizard-bird thing or not. I don't think I'll be able to go through any ME re-play without banging him. As a matter of fact, I'll go cry depressively now because we haven't yet met our Turian galactic neighbours.
other than on Dragon Age Origins all romance options in Mass Effect 1 and 2 and Dragon Age 2 suck! Both sides are full of annoying character, Merril has a cool personality but her character design is hideous
I don't think it's that Bioware hates women, just that perhaps the department dealing with romance is mostly or entirely guys. Stick a few straight women in there, you'll get some men women will swoon for.

Yeah, I didn't really like the romance options too much. I didn't really want to romance Miranda or Jack in Mass Effect 2, but I wanted to make a choice, so I went with the lesser of two evils. In other words, Miranda. Jack was psycho and the shaved head is not really attractive. Sorry, all you ladies with shaved heads, I like some hair up top.
I'll admit that Miranda's romance was rather shallow. However, when I tried Jack's romance, I actually liked how that turned out more than either Tali or Miranda (though I'll always pick Liara over anyone else, even as FemShep). It added much more to her character and was extremely heartfelt compared to ME2's other two options.
So far, I think I've hated every romance option in every Bioware game I've ever played. As a result, I try my best to be a passive-aggressive asshole to all of them and really wish they would include better options for that. I mean, some of them still end up liking you whether you choose to be good or evil, so there really needs to be a "just kind of a jerk" option.
OT: I like Garrus, I agree that Thane is maniacally depressive and Kaiden is just... good looking and sweet but talks too much. It's not that Bioware hates us its just that they go with what they THINK would be a character that we would find romancable. The broody cool type, the sweet virgin ( x every third male character in Bioware games), the fight-everyone alone type, the lame type (oh Gargar ;3) You know. They did same with female characters (team spirit one, cold-queen one, boob/ass one(s), geek one, rebel one etc.), but they developed their characters in (kind of) unexpected ways. I mean when it came down to it I loved both Miri and Jack in ME2 and nuked Ashley because... I had Garrus and Wrex.
Also some(most) male romancables feel like something very, very, VERY sticky. Very.
So Bioware, Please get more female members on dev-team. Cause now the only really good characters that I would want to romance are Joker, Wrex (yes) and Varric. (Well you too Fenris, but I love the FemMageHawke rivalmance)
Okay, I like the idea of Joker being a datable character for Femshep. With his brittle bones, he could spurr some sexy lines like: "handle with care" or "be gentle, alright?". Saving him is, after all, the reason Femshep got her ass burned by the collector's ship in the beggining of ME2.

1.His face does look very punchable.
2.What if bioware are trying to turn femsheps and femhawks into lesbos by giving them lame guys to choose from?
3.it is very one sided. male shep gets miranda (dat ass) ashley (still hot) tali (sexy nerd) jack (total dom) or Liara (pure hawtness).
Femshep only gets jacob (meh...) thane (srsly?) kaiden (more yawn) or garrus (he's cool as a friend but i don't see how it would work if you tried to do it.) Why can't femshep just date Joker? he's funny, he's useful, he has an actual backstory and flaws that make him more awesome. maybe bioware is just trying to be PC by putting a "play as a girl" option. idk.
Yes but if you want to go straight by lore she has no immune system and as far as I remember but I might be wrong in this a fair portion of the Migrant Fleet was wiped out one time by a cold. It doesn't make sense from a purely lore stand point that she is an option so easily.
Joker got upgraded in ME2. Not gameplay upgrades, but bone upgrades from Cerberus. I think that if you can hold an assault rifle and escape a bunch of collectors you can hold your bones together for a kick shagging.
At no point during that video does she sacrifice freedom of movement from the waist up for a chance to use her upper arms to squeeze her breasts forwards and upwards just to please the fanboys.
I trust the internet to filter for attractiveness to some extent so, hey boys, eye candy!
Notice anything about their chests? Hint: compare the size of each woman's head to that of one of her breasts.
Furthermore, while it's hard to be sure without looking up the design I ... oh what the heck. *google* Okay, now I'm convinced. She's got her finger inside the trigger guard. I found another image showing her with her finger on the trigger and the gun pointing skyward. Rangers, professional soldiers and respectable users don't do that. Cowboys, teenagers, pre-teenagers, nuts and idiots do. It's a pretty sharp distinction and I've gone right off her.
...
It is, indeed, "canon" as in "canonical" not "cannon" as in gun.
So please, Bioware, throw the Femhawkes and Femsheps a frickin' bone, will you? Where's their Morrigan? Or Ashley? Or Tali? or Jack? Or Miranda? Or Merrill? Why do guys have a range of at least moderately interesting stock personality types to choose from, and girls get a choice of Blandy McBlanderson, Repulsive Alien, Raging Metrosexual, or Epic Douchebag? Surely you can't expect ALL of them to become lesbians just to avoid weeping quietly into their pillows at the compromises they have to make to get that romance achievement?
Because they know if they write romance options for all the male characters that the fanbase loves they might mess it up. Varric for example, or Bann Teagen (apparently), Joker, or Wrex, and on and on.
OT: Because they are guys (mostly) writing for a male playerbase. They don't know what women are looking for in a guy beyond the obvious. Most guys don't (or at least straight guys). What I want to know is why are most of the females human squadmates in ME2? Jacob is the only guy (excluding MShep).
EDIT: Oh yeah, have to disagree with your opinion on Alistair. Found him to be like Garrus where he is the good nature, joking friend who wants to protect everyone.
