I say fuck everybody - I still enjoy BioWare for their games. Sure, DA2 may not quite be as grand in scale as the first game, but at least I can go into a combat scenario without falling asleep (and before anyone starts, yes, I grew up on "twitch" action games; relying on numbers is too luck-based).

So you like action games, not tactical rpgs. Your the type of person Bioware caters to now, so you shouldn't have any problem with them.
Um... do you have a problem with that?

Addendum: And what do you mean "I'm the type of person BioWare caters to now?" I've been playing their games since fucking MDK2.

This is why I'm glad I'm a fervent optimist. If a game is fun for me, it has done its job well. I liked the Story in DA2. I liked the combat. I liked ME2, a lot. I like RPGs, and I think Bioware still does them better than anyone else (except for maybe Bethesda). I like Bioware, and have faith that they will continue to make great games.

All you naysayers are as bad as the vocal zealots that cause everyone to panic ever decade or so saying the world is going to end.

I can see how your afraid they are going in the wrong direction, but the best way for a developer to see their impact is in a) sales figures and b) reviews, both of which are very positive in their favor. In the grand scheme of things either RPGs will go in a new direction, or what were seeing now will be considered a "misstep" in their history.
EDIT: meant to quote dolgion here, still new sorry :)
Just click on Quote and it will appear :) BTW I agree with you and Terran.I happen to love RPGs and at the moment Bioware is my favorite Developer aside from Twisted Pixel. Also more people playing games and making games more available to those who are more causal isn't a bad thing. The Causal gamers cash help fund the more risky projects.

You know what, I really DID like Dragon Age Origins and DA2 did away with the one thing I liked which was realistic looking, brutal combat. It was gritty, now its all anime. So yes, I'ma complain.

Truth of the matter is people are going to ***** either way. There are just as many people that like DA2 as hate it, most of us are just too busy playing the game to argue. Half of the problem is the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia and the other is that everyone expects every game to be tailored just for them in their special little world.

Honestly, i'm getting tired of forumites opinions on bioware.

Every -single- game since Baldur's Gate 2 has garnered a whole lot of backlash.

Do you remember how -angry- people were about KOTOR? How dumbed down it would need to be to get on consoles, how the gameplay would be awful, about how it was too linear?

Jump forward to Jade empire, and people were getting angry about how the rpg elements were gone because you had to hit buttons to attack.

Jump forward to Mass Effect, and people were jumping at their throats about turning rpgs into gears of war clones.

Jump forward to DA:O, and it's not living up to BG:2, it's a Lord of the Rings storyline, the complaints about limiting the classes to the three archetypes. And of course, the endless complaining of the "Brutal combat" selling point.

Jump forward to ME:2, and it's about the inventory changes and skill removal.

Now we're at DA:2, and it's about the consolization, anime flips in combat, and reused dungeons.

I've really enjoyed my time with every single one of these games, I -think- you could to, if you could stop comparing every single one to its predecessors. Either way, it's really becoming wearying to keep hearing this stuff every time they release a new game.

Do i have a problem with you preferring action games ? Certainly not.

But don't we have enough damn "twitch" games ? They're a dime a dozen. No thinking and just mashing buttons put me to sleep, btw.
If you play on hard, you will never be able to beat most encounters by "mashing buttons." I am very tired of this button mashing argument, you'll never beat a single boss doing such a thing, and on the pc it plays exactly like its predecessor sans the isometric view. Do I prefer the isometric view, you bet I do.But with this it plays just like KOTOR did. I liked KOTOR.

Dont forget that people get cut in 6 pieces and explodes when u fire them an arrow or backstab them with a tiny dagger...
That's funny, I seem to remember another CRPG in a fantasy setting where killing an opponent with a critical hit could cause it to explode violently..

When does Baldur's Gate get so great anyways? I'm a few hours in (I had this game when it came out, didn't get past the first 30 minutes) and sure an Inn Keeper said his place was cleaner than an Elfs ass, and I chuckled.... but when does this great stuff happen?

I believe with the Tutu mod it's 150 hours or so, does it drastically change at some point?
Once you get to...shit, I can't remember...Nashkel. You meet Edwin and Minsc, and every single gibberling attack is not a life and death fight.

I agree, there has and always will be people who are dissatisfied with their games for one reason or another this is nothing new.

However Dragon Age 2 has gotten more backlash than i have ever seen towards a Bioware game and Ive been a fan since Baulders 2.

I tend think that the people who bash Me2 are nuts but I've seen valid concerns with DA2.

For god sake, Bioware's worst game is still better than most other dev's best game. I see no problem.

The fact of the matter is that there's still no one who makes games like Bioware. No one. And I like the games they make a lot.

It's true that those games have changed a bit. With the addition of intricately designed character models, full voice acting, and scenes designed with a more cinematic eye, of necessity the sheer volume of variety a single game can provide is lessened. But games like Mass Effect, Jade Empire, and Knights of the Old Republic still manage to envision far richer characters and more fully realized settings than most games even attempt to handle.

If you see things that concern you in Bioware's current direction, certainly you have every right to bring them up and hope they're addressed. There may be some truth to the idea that DA2's design changes came out of either a desire to conform to their target market's desires or pressures from above from EA or both. But I would hesitate to casually declare Bioware a lost cause over the controversies of DA2 alone- a game which notably, despite its pursuing shadows, is still getting a lot of very good reviews and seems to be doing pretty well for itself.

Unfortunately, scaling enemies to fit the level of your party makes any feeling of progress vanish. It didn't work in Oblivion and it doesn't work in Dragon Age 2. What's the point of a bigger health meter and more abilities when street gangs continue to be your equal even at level 20 and beyond?

You never get the feeling of having become truly powerful, nor do you have any epic enemies to work towards. Everything is neatly scaled to your level so you can keep hacking and slashing without giving much thought to anything.

The ridiculous spawning of enemies in waves kills immersion even further and removes any idea of a tactical approach to situations.

I liked DA2 for some of its stuff, mostly the character writing, but the combat really was very boring and tedious.

Seriously? ANOTHER BioWare thread? C'mon people, aren't there other things to moan about? Whilst DA2 wasn't their best outing it is by no means a bad game!

OT: Some people like their new direction, others don't. Personally, whilst I do miss the old titles (Seriously - JADE EMPIRE SEQUEL NOW PLZ) I find their new offerings fantastic (Mass Effect especially ^^).
