I apologize if this has been posted before. I checked.

I think my feelings on the matter can be summed with this comment:

They're clapping for things that existed in RPGs sometimes up to 20 years ago... Fallout 1 and 2, BG1 and 2, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale 1 and 2, FOR F*CKS SAKE, HOW IS THIS APPLAUSE WORTHY?! F*CK YOU BIOWARE.
Congrats BioWare, you are reinventing the wheel.

I can't watch it at the moment. Can someone sum up what they said for me?

I watched the 40 minute DA panel. They pretty much confirmed that DA3 will have a voiced protagonist. That's a deal breaker for me.

Cool. A mute protagonist would've been a dealbreaker for me. I really can't go back to that.

Any other things you want to mention?

I doubt DA3 will ever be released. They'll either:

1. Churn out another mediocrity for under 2 years and get a million sales tops
2. Develop a decent game for 3-4 years and struggle breaking 2 million, due to the stigma on the franchise

In any case - way less profitable than DA2 was, so I don't see EA going through with this. They're probably just waiting for the ME3 thing to blow off before they let go of the team.

-They won't reuse levels too much
-We'll see Orlais
-Decisions will have consequences
-The same piece of gear will look different on different followers

Didn't watch the video since the computer I'm at doesn't have any sound, so I'm just going by what you're saying and what I'm assuming...

But perhaps they're applauding a return to the classical style? Like I said, I've got no audio, so I don't know what you're specifically talking about or whether or not Bioware is acting like it's new. :p

I love how the youtube comments signify that anyone who likes a Bioware game is a Biodrone and should die in a fire.

I'm not going to get my hopes up.

DA1 was a pretty good RPG, completely worth the money, but it was not the successor to baldur's gate, like they said.

DA2 was horrible compared to the original. decent combat, sub-standard plot (in a bioware game ), bad level design (spent all their money on combat it seems. copy paste the levels), and cardboard characters.

Maybe DA3 will bring back what made DA1 such a good RPG, but honestly, I think it'll be to full of EA bullshit to ever compete.

inb4 requires origin and internet access to install and play. (I can't believe this is almost standard practice now. Such a load of crap)

Honestly, its good to see that they are somewhat humbled after the disaster that was DA2. I am going to sit back and see what tidbits they offer through their marketing campaign and see what like-minded gamers think about the title before I pick it up myself. I will be cautiously indifferent with a mild hint of hope that it will offer an overall good experience.

I am less concerned about the protagonist having vocal capabilities are more concerned if they actually release a decent game. You know with a thick story and fresh content.

Some of your guys need to give it a break. Yea Bioware is fucking up bad, but there are bigger things to worry about than a voiced protagonist.

With any luck they'll take the best bits from DA:O, the best bits from DA2 and not repeat the mistakes of DA2. With luck. But then I'm one of the people who thought DA2 was alright. Not as good as Origins, by a long shot, but... alright. I played it, I enjoyed it, I boinked Fenris... Moving on.

I actually like the voiced protagonist. Much as I adored DA:O, it did break the illusion somewhat when I had Alistair (oh, Alistair!) telling me how awesome I was, and my Warden was just... silent. Interaction there would have just been better, help keep the mood going. Either everyone silent or no-one. As long as it's a good VA, I'm happy. I'd say get the most excellent Jennifer Hale in, but she's so firmly established in my mind as Shepard that it wouldn't feel right. So someone of her calibre would be great, thanks.

Really, I just hope they've learned what not to do from the sequel. Reusing the environments was just shoddy. And I wouldn't have minded being confined to Kirkwall as much if Kirkwall had felt... You know... BIGGER. Like a real city.

I'll do what I normally do, really. Check it out as it goes and if it looks good, I'll buy it. No point putting cart before horse, is there? :)

Does this mean we can do the same as what we did to Devil May Cry and forget the second one exists?

"1 and 3 are great, what do you mean where's 2? There is no 2 don't be foolish".

I'm actually happy with what I heard.

They do know what was disliked about DA2 so they know they need to do something about it. If they end up doing the same thing then it's their own damn fault when the shitstorm rolls back through.

I'm still going to wait a while after it's released before I buy though. See what happens.

Although, if you find the "uncut" version of that video, they aren't cheering what he's saying .... They are cheering the guy walking past with a sign saying "CHEER IF YOU LIKE FREE BEER"....That was a joke (just because I know someone will take it serious and ask for a source).

I'm now (unfortunately) skeptical about their ability to tell a functional story that doesn't shit the bed in the final act, but I've decided to be cautiously optimistic about DA3. I'm going to wait for cogent user reviews before buying it, barring the DLC for ME3 repairing the damage wrought there, but I'd like to think they have it in them to right the listing ship that is the DA franchise.

Voiced protagonist is good. Witcher has a voiced protagonist, and old school CRPG buffs don't whine about that game. The mute protagonist in DA:O was a weakness. Bioware is not Bethesda, and I'd rather they stick to their strengths, stay away from mute ciphers, and stuff their game with personality.

As for "not re-inventing the wheel", the fuck, people? ME was generally a new thing, and everyone fucking howled, because it wasn't old school enough. So they go old school, and it's jeers of derision for not reinventing the wheel. This is not a sensible complaint.

Im sorry when they dont throw out what people have already accepted then they get a shitstorm.

Mention a single thing that Bioware could do that people wouldn't fucking whine about?

You are not really upset with they are doing. You just upset that there are people who dont fucking hate them. I get it. They made a shit ending and sold some DLC that was supposed to be free. Yeah so they they ask for feedback and then its still a problem?

Yeah people like when they follow the feedback. But yeah they should just boo anything they say. Hate them! I HATE THEM YOU SHOULD TO!
They did throw out what people had accepted with Dragon Age 2. They won't re-use levels... uh good job? They will have choices that matter... um, good job? Your followers can have gear... good job? Seriously, these things were present long ago back before RPGs were even 3D and they have been in them since. Yay, Bioware for deciding to keep up with the competition?

One thing Bioware could do that one would ***** about is start keeping promises. What's it been 2 years now that they have got away with telling huge lies concerning their games? Are you seriously surprised people are raging? Even in my days as a Bioware fan I would have agreed with the OP and his statement of reinventing the wheel on this. Arcanum offered us more 14 years ago than any RPG today comes close to.

If this game turns out to be a hit and Bioware pulls a 180 we will have a lot of people utterly confused here on the Escapist. I will be man enough to post a picture of my foot in my mouth.

Old school is good in my book.

Bioware already said it is keeping the faster pased combat of DA2

90% of people will hate it for that reason alone, because if it doesn't take 10 seconds to swing a two-handed sword IT ISNT A REAL RPG
