If this game turns out to be a hit and Bioware pulls a 180 we will have a lot of people utterly confused here on the Escapist. I will be man enough to post a picture of my foot in my mouth.

Old school is good in my book.
Bioware salready said its keep the faster combat.

(0% of people will hate it.
Faster combat is okay as long as it is tactical and the RPG elements are intact. I liked some of what they did in DA2's combat, but it was poorly executed. Please, no endlessly respawning enemies in the middle of combat!

Bioware already said it is keeping the faster pased combat of DA2

90% of people will hate it for that reason alone, because if it doesn't take 10 seconds to swing a two-handed sword IT ISNT A REAL RPG
I personally wouldn't mind DA2's faster combat seeing as I enjoyed DnD: Online's combat.

I just hope that the combat will be more tactical with no enemies spawning from nowhere.

Ah, the game's industry. Where you're only as good as the rage surrounding your last game.

DA1 was a game that drew a lot of the RPG purists, and those purists dont like the faster combat.

there will be rage over the simple fact it is faster because it isnt pure enough for them.

I hope the bosses are fun and not just given 1000000000000000000 health.
Bioware generally isn't all that good at boss fights unfortunately. Lair of the Shadowbroker bosses were pretty decent, but I can't remember any bosses from either DA title that was really fun to fight.

Oh so Bioware are now going back to how DA:O was?

Erm. Okay. Good news. Great.

Did the audience have to cheer after every ever sentence?

No seriously it's fucking pathetic. They're going back to something that was industry standard over 10 years ago and they're like THIS IS PROGRESS.

Bioware is in meltdown right now, you can tell.

I thought DA:O had fun bosses. The Broodmother was a tactical affair, using Mages to attack her whilst your warriors fend off the tentacles. The Dragon fights were generally pretty epic too, and fighting Kolgrim and the Reavers was incredibly challenging.

I think it's interesting how he seems to equate agency with the player controlling his/her experience. I wonder whether he views player choices that limit content later in the game (e.g.: do I put points into speech or lockpicking?) as a net increase or decrease in player agency?

I'd disagree, I thought the fight with the Arishok was really fun. The fight with the rock monster in the Deep Roads was good. Orsino was a pain in the ass but still a valid boss fight if you ask me, and of course Everyone Vs Meredith was really cool (I liked how all the NPCs, including your entire party (even the ones not in the squad you're controlling), were there for the fight.

DA:0 had the High Dragon and the Arch Demon along with the Brood Mother and the king of golems (or Branka) and a slew of other unique and interesting bosses.

Really I'd say that both DA games have lots of challenging and fun boss fights, more so than the ME universe which considers most bosses as "This is just an upgraded version of the mercs/pirates/whatever you've already been fighting in this place...see? We even gave him/her a name!"

I fought the Arishok as a melee Rogue... that was NOT fun at all :(

I do love that they sit there and laugh and joke over how much DA2 sucked and how much it pissed everyone off.

But I don't understand why any of this was applause worthy. The decision to remove/improve the key things that fucking sucked in DA2 is a move that should be obvious to any company that didn't have their heads up their asses.

I still am glad to hear they're actually... trying this time. At least it seems to be that way. I am cautiously waiting for more info on DA3.

:p Depends on your spec...and whether you thought to keep summoning your dog every time the Arishok took it out. Have the dog tank him then sneak around back and get your backstab on! :p Better than fighting him as a mage which is an in-depth course on kiting.

I don't think I had the dog... though it has been a really long time since I last played DA2.

Yeah, I watched this last night. All three of things things should be a given in RPGs, so I'd have preferred they just said, "Yeah, we're fixing those" and then move on. But their attitude is right considering everything. I'm still saying Dragon Age 3 is going to be one hell of an intriguing game, if only to see how BioWare responds to overwhelming criticism for the first time in their history.

Well it sounds like it has some potential then. I don't mind the voice acting but I would prefer that they don't limit the possible dialouge again, I also found it annoying to play through DA2 as male Hawke because I really didn't like his voice actor, the female one was great though.

I am fine with faster paced combat but I hope it's more engaging now than just mashing buttons, please let it have impact too. In DA2 I would endlessly slash someone with swords or cover them in fire and it hardly seemed to hurt them.

Still I am really worried that this will fail, I don't even know how I feel about the story after the second game, im hoping they give me a main character that I like. Even if it's a solid game im still going to have to weigh in whether it's worth buying all the DLC they will release for it.
I'll probably wait for user reviews before I buy it.
