Oh thank god they're fixing it already. The complaining was getting seriously annoying. I love how people think Bioware would just leave it like that.

"Bioware better fix this!" /rage etc

No they want you all to be pissed off and leave forever ... it's not like they need your subs or something.

Yes they ballsed up, yes they're going to fix it and yes years from now someone will probably complain about getting the shit beat out of them in pvp and some of us can say "Should've seen the patch of 2012 my boy."
I see the Biodrones are out in full force.

They CAN'T fix it, PvP is PERMANENTLY broken, let me explain why.

The Empire players have been able to use this exploit to gain an amount of valor points that should take literal MONTHS of grinding to obtain, they'll be able to buy the best PvP gear for several seasons and there's nothing Republic players can do, the Empire players now have a permanent boost in PvP, and Bioware can't fix it.

The Engine is so poorly designed that it can't do rollbacks, all player that used this exploit get to keep their valor points forever.
An exaggeration.
I'm sure serious Republic players will be caught up in no time.
Are they behind a little? Sure. But saying that the Republic is gimped forever is still an exaggeration.

So, this sounds like an issue of very few Republic players (I hear its a good 4-1 ratio) and a bug colliding to royally screw up the players. Hopefully, it'll be fixed soon. And I have more high level Imperials. I just hate to see a lack of balance and players being cheated.

I'd hate to be whomever is put in charge of clearing up this mess.

PvPers are notoriously competitive and sensitive about balance at the best of times, and they will ruthlessly exploit any flawed or broken game mechanic or bug to gain advantage.

They can't ban everyone who's taken advantage of this - if the PvP guilds in TOR are anything like those in other MMOs then they'll have been flocking to Ilum en masse so banning them all would wipe out entire guilds.

There's been lots of talk/pleas/demands for a rollback of the PvP gains made from this, but so far no indication from BW that they'll do that, or even if they can do that.

And the timing couldn't be worse... days before that all important first month renewal.

On the plus side, maybe this - along with the admission that the high res graphics used in trailers and screenshots aren't actually available to players - will be enough to silence the Bioware propaganda machine, because their launch is rapidly becoming nothing to brag about.
Okay, we get it. You hate the game. Seriously, you're more obsessed with this game than people who actually like it. You comment on every single thread that even mentions TOR stating your hate for it. I actually like it, but I barely comment about the game, unless I feel I have something to say. Please, give it a rest. Play a game that you like. It'll do you good.

Why do companies even bother putting pvp into these games anymore? They always screw it up in the first place, and the PVP crowd is always the one that complains non-stop about every little thing (real or imagined.)

And seriously, when are companies going to learn that if you make a two faction game, that population will always be skewed? This has happened in every MMO to release since World of Warcraft came out.

EDIT: I also want to say that if you plan on putting open world pvp in, don't put instanced pvp in as well. Because the side that is losing (especially on numbers, like what is happening now) won't do open world pvp at all, and simply do instanced pvp.

Hardly. I comment on news stories and 'neutral' discussion topics, and not all of them. I've steered clear of any fan thread in general discussion (what's your favourite this, that or the other etc...) and I'll continue to do so.

Why do I comment on it? I like MMOs, which this site rarely cover in depth, and SWTOR's launch and subsequent issues has been the biggest MMO story in years - perhaps since WoW. I've only a moderate interest in the game itself (I've never said it was a bad game, it's not, merely not what I consider a good MMO) but the thing about TOR is it's very high profile, and I'm interested in seeing how it pans out, because through its sheer size and visibility it could affect MMOs as a genre... though whether for good or bad remains to be seen.

Of course my personal definition of 'bad' is certainly identical to a lot of other people's definition of 'good.'

However I will confess to a certain amount of schadenfreude at the last few days. In the long run it'll do EA/BW some good if they learn something from their recent problems.

This was the game that's getting tonnes of great reviews off of all the big sites, right? And Dragon Age II had that going for it, too.

Man, there is no way that EA is paying people to say the games it publishes are good when they're really just seeing how much they can slack off without losing too much cash flow. No way at all.
