Black Ops isn't as bloody as RDR, really. There's also the scene where you walk in on the Mexican guy doing some chick on a table.
the likelyhood of the mother knowing about that scene or any of the other graphicness is slim (and you dont even see anything as far as i remember)... plus what about the bit in Blops where you put broken glass in a guys mouth and smash his face up?
and the fact you spend half the game being tortured
i'd actually say Blops is more graphic

Long explanation:

Red Dead Redemption has prostitution (never mind Marston the infuriatingly faithful husband), alcoholism, swearing, etc. Most Western games and movies feature outlaws as the protagonist. This being a largely Anglo-Saxon nation with largely Anglo-Saxon values, pre-marital or extra-marital sex, substance abuse, and lawlessness is taboo; violence can be used for good or evil, but the others are considered by this invisible code of ethics as morally wrong 100% of the time.

Simple explanation:

She's a fuckwit.

She can buy her twelve year old son anything she wants. Just don't expect any sympathy from me when he's stabbed his gerbil.

Because it's a Rockstar game. Thank's to Jack Thompson people tend to see Rockstar as more Adult games than others.
What ever happened to that nutjub anyway?
He got disbarred and is presumably drinking himself to death.

Fat, saggy, Mexican boobies. And pubes.
This man knows the dangers of which I speak!
And you get some pornographic images to look at at one point!
And there are naked animals! Dirty animals, lying there all naked, it's as if they wanted to be skinned!

That's strange and it can't be for mature reasons cos RDR is way more mature than black ops, even my Father like the sound of RDR, he wouldn't play the game but he read a review in a newspaper and like the sound of it.

my mum bought me loads of 18 games when i was younger, i remember being very young and playing GTA 3. i remember she laughed as i beat the crap out of a guy, stole his car and ran him over. she says (jokingly) "i really shouldnt have bought you that violent game, but admittedly it does look like alot of fun"

maybe she is an animal rights protestor, she wouldnt be happy with the killing of animals in RDR

Well, here's kind of what I'm thinking. Not to defend her, but just looking at potential logic here... Black Ops is a FPS. I'm thinking a lot of non gamers are still remembering the happy days of Golden Eye. Although there was violence, really, it was a game for all ages (let's say 10+). Well, obviously things have changed but parents generally aren't going to be fully informed. She probably thinks it's the same thing as always but with better graphics.

Thing is, she's mostly right I'd say. Yeah there's more blood and some swear words but there's nothing like scenes from BioShock, as an example of a mature FPS.

RDR tho is definitely more mature. You're not going to see a prostitute get stabbed to death by a drunkard in Black Ops, for example. Just in general I think there's more mature decisions to be made as well throughout the game. Black Ops is very straight forward. Good guys, bad guys, here's a gun go shoot them and get through the level. You don't really think about it much. RDR offers a lot of time to think. You also have the opportunity to do whatever you want (to a limited extent) such as murdering innocent people. You could wipe a whole town out. It's pretty human to think bad guys are ok to kill (although if you've been reading Shamus Plays Warcraft, that last one has some hilarious dialogue that turns the tables) but to give the player freedom to kill anyone seems to be a more mature and scary thing for parents to let their kids partake in.

Easy answer... Parents know NOTHING... especially about video games...

Granted, Red Dead has a lot more swearing, nudity, drugs, alcohol, and general sin than most parents are good for, but you cut peoples throats out in First-Person in Black Ops, soo....

Killing Communists and terrorists is fine and killing AMURKINS is wrong. That's the only possible thing I can think of, but, honestly, I doubt this woman even put that much thought into it. Unless she thinks RDR is somehow really sexual, but that doesn't make any sense...

Umm, what?

Have you played Black Ops? If so, did you not notice the dismemberment, the nazi zombies, the brutal killings, etc? If anything, they're just as bad.
