Ha thats a really clever add, when they kick the door in and the flash bang went in I was lol'ing. It's just an add. trying to sell a game with a little bit of humour chucked in, what the harm?

... What a fucking mess.

I think the advert is well made. It promotes the idea that Call of Duty [and by extension, I guess, any game] is accessible to anyone, no matter who they are, and that can only do good for the industry as a whole. The fella being interviewed has obviously been very carefully picked out due to the fact that his views align themselves with those of the network, meaning the discussion is, in essence, devoid of discussion. All that really happens is that both people agree with one another.

Ahahahahahaha, did he just let slip that American soldiers wear short skirts on the battlefield?
Also, if I can put on a uniform and go to war... doesn't that make me a soldier? Doesn't that mean that anyone can be a soldier?
Furthermore, what about films with soldiers in them? Should Tom Hanks be disgusted with himself because he's not a soldier but pretended to be one in Saving Private Ryan? Our response shouldn't be "it's just a game", it should be "don't be stupid".
On a side ramble: hey gaiz, u cant b solders. Five weeks later, America was overrun due to a lack of troops. Bringing the perspective of a soldier into their own homes and eyes is going to INCREASE awareness of war, not make them apathetic.

Haha yeah I thought the same about the short skirts too. Wish the camera had been on the woman at the time of that slip. If she didn't at least smirk, she can't be human.

That ad should have seen it coming. Sure, those guys were idiots, but that was a pretty iffy commercial. If they were smarter about it, they would have just shown various people playing the game.
And I'm sure the advertisers and Treyarch care so much what a bunch of misinformed idiots think.
Misinformation spreads quickly throughout the stupid community, and there is a certain overlap between stupid people and cod players.
True, but it's a different breed of stupid, more a 'POW POW I COULD GO TO AFGHANISTAN AND FIGHT THE TALIBAN AND THEY WOULDN'T STOP ME UNTIL THEY PUT A BULLET IN MY HEAD" stupid, not a "EVERYTHING IS CORRUPTING OUR CHILDREN OR DISHONOURING THE TROOPS" stupid.

My own contribution to the comments section of the video:

Why is she talking like that?

"The G-man... places unusual stress on syllables, stressing the wrong parts of words, making unneeded pauses, and awkwardly changing the pitch of his voice, sometimes in the middle of a word."

This whole report is clearly a clever bit of viral marketing by Valve designed to advertise Half Life 3 and put down Call of Duty while they're at it.

We got the same shit last year with MW2: A really popular video game is released and mainstream media feels the need to discuss it, but doesn't know how.

There's no reason to hope it'll be different this year around.

The tagline of the commercial is that "There's a Soldier in All of Us"
I found that funny too. Also funny,it'd be a great tagline for amry recruitment. Put some heroic imagery in there with flag and what not and you've got the new army slogan!

The other point I enjoy is that he says that soldiers were banned from playing Medal of Honor because you could play as the Taliban, when the press release was that they wouldn't sell them on base. Also, he tries to make a point out of it, but contradicts his own reasoning by saying "...they don't want the psychological impact of reversing the roles - having an American soldier play as the Taliban - to effect them." Now, I understand this wholeheartedly; it's very difficult to fight someone you sympathize with. However, I don't agree with using this logic to say that civilians cannot play these games and form opinions off of them because their duty, first and foremost, is to support the troops. Sorry, but democratic societies are based upon the rights and freedoms to form opinions and express them freely, much as he was doing by going on that talk show, and not have anything demanded of them just because some polititian made the choice to invade and occupy a country. If we choose, as free people, to go against those decisions, we have every right to vocalize our opinions and play games that sympathize with the enemy if that is how we feel.

Also of note: Escapists, stop bashing this guy for no good reason. He has a perfectly reaosnable viewpoint in that war does suck and that it shouldn't be trivialized. He's more sensitive to the subject matter because he's experienced war and we have not. Realise that their heart is in the right place and try not to be flippant with your responces.

While I respect and appreciate the men and women who serve in the military, the guy in the video needs to come down off his high horse.

Their line of reasoning doesn't even make sense. The commercial's tagline was "There's a solider in all of us." They aren't even arguing the right point. On top of that, anyone could be a solider in theory. Only certain people actually do, but any person in the world could be a soldier.

Also, mimicking the insurgents? That's stereotyping, mkay. How would an American solider hold an RPG, anyway?

Why is it that there's plenty of extremely violent films and film trailers out there giving a realistic portrayal of war, yet still poking fun at it (Full Metal Jacket's Animal Mother, for example), yet still society manages to go past it unharmed, yet still when a game does it, lock your doors and hide your family, shit's going down?

Also, if someone who is legally old enough to join the Marines Corps can't actually realize that the ad is supposed to be unrealistic tongue-in-cheek, then maybe they do deserve to go to some war and see it by themselves.

I had not seen this commercial before, but my mom had and when she told me about it, she said that at the end it said "There's a killer in everyone." I found that a little sketchy, but obviously she got the quote wrong and after watching the commercial I can see that there really isn't anything wrong with the ad. I actually found it pretty funny.
