But going off to become a real soldier, that's much more acceptable. Disgusting.
What's that supposed to mean?

And this guy doesn't seem much of a former vet to myself, the way he acts and looks, not sure. He must have only done two years and left. Besides, if he was a true veteran, he knows the rules of the military:

Don't get the military involved with your discussions by bringing up your current / past rank when it comes to the media.

IE: "I'm a veteran and is evil!" to a news station / radio show. No. Just say " is evil!" Never bring your stuff up with the public relations, the military frowns so deeply on that it's almost a disgrace. And this guy just said "I challenge you to put on the uniform if you think this game is decent." My family has for almost two hundred years, and I am in a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps' Program and applying for a military academy as an officer, I think I'd know a little bit here, including some of my friends who are in the uniform that are loving this game.

TL:DR

Guy is either a fake or wants his little 15 seconds of fame on TV. Nothing more.
Hit the nail right on the head.

By the way, I think Quickening666 just meant that killing people in real life is worse than doing so in a video game.

Even though I'm not American, I expect the patriotism (for the most part) of the armed forces and the fact that they're willing to join an actively used army and risk their lives.

Yeah that's exactly what I meant. It never ceases to amaze me how the media will cause an outcry over this and other fictional depictions of life but the very real atrocities going on in our name almost never get the same fiery passion.

If that's what he means then I'll accept it, I am getting too used to the Escapists' double meaning threads sometimes when it involves the military and it gets to me. My bad to Quickening666.

Though I do have to admit on a semi-off topic response: That commerical is indeed pretty sweet with the firefighter in a Huey firing a machine gun to be shot down by a pizza boy or such with an RPG. (I'll forgive the cheesy and sort of lame chef at the end with two pistols because of that)

Ah well, got nothing more to say on the matter it seems.

*Hands soapbox off to another pedestrian and walks off*

i fail to see the resemblance between "anyone can be a soldier" and "there's a soldier in all of us"
also, it's just an ad, there's not subliminal insurgent message or plot to overthrow the government
also, Activision should totally sue that *****. Hell, they have the money, they might as well use it for something practical. That way maybe future asshats will think twice before filling ordinary people's minds with hate messages aimed towards videogames.

(1:44-1:55) So are they going to interview Kobe Bryant when NBA2K11 comes out and have him talk about "not everyone can be a basketball player"? Retards. I hate the media.

LOL. He doesn't know for sure when veterans day is. XD That's hillarious. That was his own point that we need to show veterans some sort of bullshit respect and then he, a veteran, is like "it's thursday right? I think it is."

And this is why it is called the boob tube. What is really sad is there are people out there who have more respect for this show than for video games. Made only worse by the fact they are serious.

I thought the commercial was pretty cool.

HAAAAHAHAHAHAHA

HOLY CRAP.
Go to 3:24...
I LAUGHED SO HARD...
"We've got a woman, wearing a short skirt, carrying an M16, something Americans have in the battlefield.
What it's saying is that doing that is "sexy". War is not sexy"
Are you fucking serious? Sorry, but profane language is fully acceptable here, because how can someone be so stupid!
She's a fucking businesswoman, and I swear to god I didn't even see any parts of her below the waist.
They're now focusing in on tidbits.
The harder they try though, the less respect I hold for 'em, even the Afgan vet. Yes, war is bad, but judging the celebrities used in the video doesn't prove your point...

His comment about the ad trying to "make war sexy" was just beyond idiotic...

The funny thing is, anyone CAN be a soldier.

It takes other things to be a GOOD soldier.

Honestly, I would say it's a bad commercial, in that I think it was just not the best way to sell their game, moral and ethical boundaries aside. The controversy on this is just idiotic though, not to mention the more than blatant bias this clip is showing. I am friends with veterans who would probably punch this guy in the face if they saw this.

I think the advert is well made. It promotes the idea that Call of Duty [and by extension, I guess, any game] is accessible to anyone, no matter who they are, and that can only do good for the industry as a whole.
It had people that looked to be under the ESRB age...

Personally, I preferred the "gunfight" commercial way back when. WIth people using their hands as guns.
AS for the vid......I just sighed.

"Nobody can't! Only those that make the decision to choice to serve their country get to earn that title."

lol wut.

OT: Now they are selling death? Wow. This video is a great example of the incredible ignorance of video games. That soldier is also a complete idiot. The only reason he is there is so that they can play the "Grizzled veteran who has really been there." card.

I actually thought the ad was kinda fitting. Was is Call of Duty if not juvenile wish fulfillment to be a soldier? Games take any fat, overweight, slob and turn him into a Marine or a Ranger. That's pretty appealing, even if the illusion is only temporary. I have a great deal of respect for all branches of the military and plan to enter into the Marine Corps, but this ad did not phase or disturb me. It's not *actually* saying that anyone can be a soldier in real life; it's saying that in a digital world of over-the-top chaos and carnage, anyone can be.
