Blazblue: Chronophantasma releases tomorrow in the USA!

Hi, we used to have a couple BB groups here but they died a deadly death so I made this topic to talk about this awesome game and organize matches. If people want (and are willing to actively participate) I'm up for starting a new, active BB group but for now this topic is it.




Talk about anything regarding this game here and you can feel free to ask questions about it since I've been playing the imported version that came out in October so I know a thing or two.

I'm pretty excited for this, as I haven't played an anime fighting game in a while. Will be nice to take a break from SFIV and Marvel and jump into some good ol anime fighting.

And I already like taking my copy of CS Extend around the place and challenging my friends. Just seems a bit saddening to know I can't have these two awesome characters available for that.

I have actually ordered an import copy this time as I am sick of waiting for them to eventually decide to release it in Europe hopefully I get it in a few weeks or earlier.

I think I will stick with Makoto but I want to try out Bullet and Azrael. I absolutely suck at BB hopefully I am able to put some time in and at least learn some basic B and B combos this time.

Has Kokonoe been toned down yet? I heard they were doing that in a patch but I dont know what happened, she was absolutely insane from what I saw a while ago sure it took skill but holy hell the lockdown, pressure and mixups were ridiculous it reminded me of Marvel 3 with the one touch death combos.

I hear Makoto is pretty bad but better than her last iteration at least not that it matters to much I would play her even if she was roll tier.

Arcs got one hell of a year lined up for 2014 and Sega isnt looking to shabby either which is surprising.

Terumi is bundled with the physical copies during the first print run, as well so I guess you get one and have to buy the other. I bought Kokonoe for my JP version.

Gonna enjoy playing Hakumen. Loved him from the first BB, granted he was bat-shit powerful in the original. He's still strong but they toned him down to give him more options and can't wait. I didn't want to import it since I was certain there was going to be a domestic release... and I wasn't gonna be impatient for it.

Hakumen was actually the second WORST char of the game in the first BB. In contrast, he's top 5 material in Chronophantasma.

Use the ingame challenge mode as well, it's pretty basic and low level/un-optimal but it can be a good first step.

I'll be interested to see if this actually increases the commitment to the game in my area or if everyone who was interested shelled out for an import copy last year and has since binned the game. I'm still getting the impression that those in my area who would be interested in such a game are either sticking with Guilty Gear or have moved on to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

I am excited about this game though I really feel that the series has finally come into its own stylistically at least I love the use of colour in this game especially, for some reason it comes across as much stronger than the past BB titles and more in line with P4 Arena and the GG games which is awesome (not that past BB games were bad here by any means).

Makoto loses a bit of oki, otherwise she's not too nerfed, though she already was pretty low to begin with. Look for Goro matches if you wanna see awesome Makoto play.


Combos are similarly long really. It depends on your starter. A small poke will only do so much but a chunky fatal counter with overdrive cancels and meter will be much longer. As for OD as a system, it's great. It makes for a whole lot of interesting situations and since the only worthwhile duration of it is when you're low on life it makes for some epic "do this combo and you're a hero but drop it and you'll most likely not make it this round" situations. OD startup is also invincible so it can be used to do some funny things like OD>720 from Tager. Also lots of DDs have extended animations during OD which look sweet.

The netcode's still good and the online room is epic. They really re-hauled how player rooms work, now you can do online training mode with people, share replays, have multiple matches going simultaneously in the same room. There's also the new lobby system where you visit a chibi arcade and play other random people who happen to be there, amassing win-streaks for everyone to see.

So what I'm hearing is, Kokonoe is actually a playable character now, and is awesome?

I might have to look into getting this game if it ever hits Europe.

Dude you tried to play Tao? Well there's your problem. Everybody who touches BlazBlue wants to be that guy who can do all the crazy Tao screen jumping "no way that touch confirmed into a combo" antics but nobody even halfway manages it. She's way out of everybody's league.

You know i'm glad that they removed Guard Primers for CP (I think) because they were almost as bad as purple throws. I actually manage to somehow block all this mixup shit and nevermind, might as well have not bothered because lol guard breaks.

I usually can block any standard pressure stuff because I tend to play reactionary and deal with whatever the other guy is doing instead of going in with some super game plan because that's boring as fuck, so blocking well comes with the territory. Except UMVC3 because blocking low has really specific stick positioning compared to anything else.

Seriously the perfect fighting game mechanics have already been created in the form of Persona 4 Arena. They actually bought Awakening along for BlazBlue because comebacks are awesome but stupid OP comeback modes are retarded. You are never stuck without options in P4A, mindless extended corner pressure is actually bad for you because everyone has a response to it built into their kit.

Lol, you're right, that is exactly why i played taokaka. And you are also right, i failled miserably. I didn't want to play Jin , because everyone plays Jin. Either way, i'll pass on the new BB, i'll hold in my excitement for the new Guilty gear XRD. Hopefully there will be an arcade stick out for the ps4 by then.

I suppose I will import it if it's not region locked, I buy everything online anyway but I wouldn't mind hearing at least an approximate EU release beforehand. I need to move money around before I start buying stuff anyway and i'm nothing if not lazy. For argument's sake what if people stop buying from EU releases and just import then they stop releasing things in the EU entirely THEN region lock to NA only. I suppose the netcode is as good as ever so I don't really have to worry about overseas connections being laggy.

Is there anything else on PS3 exclusive that's good, aside from your usual Last of Us. Isn't there something about a PSP to PS3 app thing? If so I could actually play P3P and see if it fixes any of my issues with Persona 3. I mean I bought a 3DS just for the new Ace Attorney so i've done it before but there must be other stuff out there.
